Reds are only 1/2 game out of place
Cubs are looking average.
Also how about the SF Giants? They are just plain bad. The 2nd half of last year they were terrible, but they held on and made the WC game. But now this year they are bad again. Got to wonder if it's just a long slump, or maybe time to tear the team down and start over? They've been damn good for awhile. Their run maybe over.
I'm stunned to see how poorly both the Cubs and Giants are playing. On the flip side-- How abut them Yankees?

Rizzo may be one of the three worst GMs in the NL.
Only to the uninformed, is that so. You defend the indefensible. He blackballed a manager who resigned rather than play the GM's power games. The GM has superior players who simply under perform in the post season. That is on the leadership provided by the GM, who wants to be the manager himself. Billy Bean he ain't.That's uninformed. He has built a sound roster that contends every year and has depth in the minor leagues.

If the Nationals had the Dogers' manager last year, they would have swept the WS or darn close to it.
That's just silly. I don't know who you think Rizzo blackballed. His hire of Dusty Baker looks good to me, and I've seen no sign Rizzo wants to do Baker's job.
Mike Rizzo forced out Jim Riggleman in 2011 who wanted to his contract extended to 2012. Rizzo treated Riggleman like **** and previous managers. Rizzo didn't believe in more then one year contracts for managers and had Riggleman on 1 year deals since 2009.
Rizzo and the Nats (Lerners) also screwed the pooch on getting Bud Black who they actually wanted.. Dusty Baker was a fall back.
I have a feeling Rizzo will be gone if the Nats don't get it done this year.
Riggleman acted with honor and integrity, Rizzo did not. Baker is an acceptable manager, but when the Nats fail this year (as they will), Rizzo will look in the mirror and fire Baker.Riggleman quit on the team. His departure was addition by subtraction. Whatever the circumstances of Baker's hiring, he has been a good manager.

That type of thinking undergirds the Nationals' failure in the last six years to advance to the WS.I thought Riggleman was a poor manager and leader, as demonstrated when he quit, and sending him off was an excellent leadership decision.

. . . and hindered by Rizzo's leadership, imo. I can leave it there.I doubt anything I personally think, do or say has anything to do with the Nationals' success or failure. They have not advanced to the WS because they have been defeated by better teams.

No, Riggleman didn't quit on the team. He quit a ****ty GM who was getting multiyear contract and a ownership group who knew **** all about baseball. Nats are the only team in the MLB that hasn't given a manager a contract longer then 3 years.
Forty years ago, and the game has changed, as you well know. The comparison fails on the face of it.Walter Alston managed the Dodgers successfully for around 25 years on a series of one-year contracts.

Of course your comparison fails prima facie. Yes, look in the mirror. The whole salary structure has change, the negotiating has changed, and Rizzo will be very unlikely ever considered as a standard of GM excellence. Not at all. People (look in a mirror) have regressed. The principles of excellence remain, even if some cannot recognize them.
