Voting by Mail

The Georgia primary election on Tuesday is a visual example of why the US needs mail balloting.

At this point it's the ultimate rebuke to the GOP's years of documented systematic voter suppression tactics across the country. Of course, these are the same people who celebrated Jim Crow when the Democratic Party represented them. It's a shame when American democracy has to be saved from a political party's apathetic abuse. When we consider that the GOP has clearly and officially attacked democracy for years and has now even excused a seated President's clear attempt to commit treason, the American people have only themselves to rely on to correct the sinking ship.

****-can the lot of them until they correct their rotted-out culture. After Trump, start with McConnell. Eventually, maybe the rest will start to remember what conservatism is. THEN, perhaps they can start convincing their idiot voters how they too have betrayed themselves. This culture if irrationality was a team effort. Fools who knew better led fools who did not. The result was a gross mishandling of absolutely everything since Trump sleazed into the White House.

Everyone should be able to vote by mail. We should simply send ballots to registered voters. Really, why bother with everyone needing to request a mail ballot? We need to prepare for the number of mail ballots that will be required and the amount of mail that will be transported. That means more mail carriers, more mail ballot handlers and everything else that goes into voting by mail. We should do as much early voting as possible.

Trump is laying the groundwork to claim hoax when he loses 80-20 but, oh well, he can cry and go home or to prison.

I worked the polls this last election and we switched from a machine to a paper ballet where you had to fill in circles like the old test in school. This was done so we would have a hard copy in the event the machine crashed.

About 1/3 of the people either filled out the ballets wrong or forgot to even fill out the other side. I know because I ran the machine that read the ballets. I asked every person if they filled out the other side and if they picked the right amount of candidates when you had a choice of more than 1. You would be surprised how many people only chose 1 candidate because they did not read the instructions that told them they had more than 1 choice. Others chose too many. I was able to solve the problem at the polls.

Unfortunately had they mailed in their vote the problem would not be resolved and they would have lost their vote unfortunately.

Because few bother to unregister when they move or die.

That really is a big problem. We have way too many people registered that I know first hand are no longer with us or have moved. One of the advantages of working the polls in your own neighborhood. Resolving the issue seems to be more trouble than it should be. I have mentioned many times that the person registered is dead and nobody seems to care. Unfortunately that is not part of my function as a poll worker and as usual with government nothing gets done until there is a problem.

As I have said before on here, we have notified the authorities and wrote "deceased" on letters sent to her. NYS simply refuses to remove her name from the election registration roll.

Should you be contacting the state, or someone much more local?

Wouldn't you agree that weeding out complete morons is a good idea?

I got to vote by mail in our primary. Good thing--some of our lines were hours long. Mostly in primarily-Black neighborhoods.

I don't have to worry about anything. Colorado is a mail-in standard state. I will get my ballot in the mail the same as any other election, no added hassle needed.

That's a bs excuse. Rolls are purged regularly. Plus, no one can vote twice.

So you unlike many people in my family were not born at home and the only record of the birth was in the family Bible.

My father was litterally born in a barn, niether of my grandmother's and would have been legal to vote under there republican suppression laws.

Funny thing is both would vote republican if they could...

Same holds true for my great grandparents and my great great grandmother, all of who I knew and.none had birth certificates...

I was born at a hospital that no longer exists as one. There is some system available for those born in the barn or the home. My youngest sister was born at home and she votes.

I am trying to use the internet to get CA to purge me from the voter rolls but they persist on forcing me to do it using mail.

It is a great idea.:thumbs::thumbs:

But then what do we do with them?

No they still have rights and one of those rights is to vote.

All rights are a choice and in none are we guaranteed individual success. They tried.

Isn't that automatic when you register in a new state?

Not to my knowledge. It is for getting a different state's drivers license, but not for a state issued, photo ID.

It is illegal to vote more than once, but rest assured that nobody compares who voted in a given district/state with who voted in all other districts/states for each election cycle. To do so would require use of a standardized (national?) voter ID system and use of a unique federal income tax ID or SSN.

I don't know. Practically my entire voting history is Absentee with a state I declared as home of residence when I enlisted just because I was born there.

I've never had to deal with a state issued photo ID either. I thought that was a driver's licence. Then again, I spent almost twenty years without a photo on it.

Like the constant racist paranoia you're under?

I take a shot at your post, so you take a shot at me personally and deny racism. Typical Trumping. You sure you don't wanna mention Obama?

I don't think gov. abbott is going to allow mail-in voting in Texas, but I've reached the allowable age this year.

Go to vote.org to print out your mail-in ballot if you get to have one. I figure mine will wind up in a shredder somewhere, but what the hell, I don't feel like standing in line for hours.

Democrats in the fall will have a major come down like they did in 2016 and believe mail will save them. Were it registered voters, they would not clamor so much. They need those who are not lawful to vote.

Here in Idaho I just voted by mail for the primary and am pleased. I now need to send in another ballot by mail request to vote in the fall. When i got the drivers license I was forced by Idaho to guarantee to them I am a citizen. I had to show them my birth certificate and due to Mom divorcing, she changed my last name so Idaho forced me to certify my last name is true going back to around 1952. Mom had me used the old last name until high school when she suddenly changed it to my stepfathers last name. So please, do not give me the shuck and jive it is too hard for blacks. I am white and easily jumped through those hoops. Idaho did not simply trust me, they wanted proof and I gave it to them.

When I voted in CA, where they still have me registered to vote there. it was a much simpler process for sure.

The assumption of unlawful voters being a problem in the democratic process is a proven sham which all you can do is repeatedly vomit into your mudhole of ignorance to keep filled for you and your Trump cult to wallow in.

You like red tape, I don't. You want to make voting more difficult, I want to facilitate the democratic process. There is absolutely no significant evidence that there is any reason for the need of what you wish. All that is a lie. You can't prove the need.

Your use of the term "shuck and jive" is not lost on anybody here. It stinks. So does your post.
