Voting by Mail

Maybe we can't send out all the early mail ballots at the same time, but I would appreciate a notice that mine is on the way when the first round is sent.

Everyone should be able to vote by mail. We should simply send ballots to registered voters. Really, why bother with everyone needing to request a mail ballot? We need to prepare for the number of mail ballots that will be required and the amount of mail that will be transported. That means more mail carriers, more mail ballot handlers and everything else that goes into voting by mail. We should do as much early voting as possible.

Trump is laying the groundwork to claim hoax when he loses 80-20 but, oh well, he can cry and go home or to prison.

Colorado, mail-in is standard. Everyone gets a ballot in the mail. It's simple, easy, secure.

In my Grandmother's situation, she changed her address to my mother's address. That's why we have been receiving mail addressed to Grandma.

In other words, the fraudster could change the sender address to their own, and then vote on their behalf.

Why have you not informed the authorities of the change of Grandma's circumstances for all these years?

100% illegal alien votes.

How different would the outcome be with undocumented immigrants voting. How different would the outcome be if only undocumented immigrants voted. Any which way, Trump gets rolled.

We have. That's the problem. Whenever we receive a notification letter, we write "deceased" on it, and send it back. We have also called a number of times, and my county continues to say "they'll change it" and they never do.

I see your point. the current voter registration list is available to anyone including political parties, and so are the deaths so presumably anyone given sufficient self or partisan driven interest or concern, can compare the lists and come up with the duplicates and hand it over to the secretary of state. The Democratic party can do it and self select republicans, and the republicans can do the same, I suppose. My guess is that even our most partisan folk, doubt this represents a significant risk even in close elections. Few people would bother themselves with changing Grandma's registration and getting the forged signature to look right, to change one vote per election and anything organized would be reported through the anonymous voter hotline before it got too far.

Good. I am just trying to pick people's brains here.

I got the application for the primary ballot in the mail yesterday without asking for it.

I'm gonna make sure my Florida ballot is on the way.

Got a card from the county today in the mail, "Mail in Ballot Registration". Gonna complete it, mail it and my ballot is on the way in the mail. Good to see the county sent out mail ballot registration cards to registered voters.

Aug 22 deadline in Florida for mail in registration.

My grandmother has been dead for the past 11 years. Every election cycle, she gets a letter in the mail, informing her of her voting location. Why in the world would you send her an absentee ballot? It would be a waste of money.

Have you informed them that she has passed?

What is the soonest people are allowed to start mailing in the actual ballots?

I hope we do earlier voting than usual. There's gonna be so many mail in ballots we'll need time to flatten the curve so as not to overwhelm facilities.

Any info you can gather is appreciated.

Voter rolls are regularly purged of those who have passed. Yours is a very unusual case.

Sorry, I'm on the other side of this issue lol - As long as they wait until after the debates, I guess I'm good with it

Still worried about people using their adult kids to "amplify their vote"

BTW not sure if you knew but Republicans are suing...

If voting by mail has been good enough for President of the United States of America Donald Trump, it's good enough for me.

OK, then request an absentee (vote by mail) ballot and do as the POTUS did.

My wife and I applied. I prefer going in person, but our polling station is pretty small and crowded. I do find it comical Trump is bashing the same method he uses to vote, but then again he's a "do as I say, not as I do" kind of guy.

There is a big difference between responding to specific requests from individual voters and sending out (unsolicited) ballots to all registered voters.

Yep, it's a massive undertaking. We can take our cues from the successes we've had in certain states and scale up, including messaging to encourage people to go this route too.

I don't think this is a legitimate reason for everyone to vote by mail

We have 5 months before the election - If a polling station is usually too "small and crowded," redesign it, move it elsewhere, or keep it open for multiple days to thin out the crowd

That might be the more viable option for places which cannot just easily find new locations. In urban areas, in person polling tends to be very crowded during certain times of the day. I think we'll likely see a combination of people opting to vote by mail and in person voting; the former only if your state has that option. People's varying health conditions can make the decision pretty easy.

My son worked the polling places for years. Typically the people working there are well past retirement and some very young adults. I am having a tough time seeing many of them wanting to work the polls anymore (covid related)

There are wild discrepancies in resources in many areas....a less populated suburb might have quite a few polling places that have a steady very light flow. (too many polling places)
Others places (frequently poor areas) may have waits in the hours - which someone who has little means can hardly afford.

Seems like absentee ballots are the way to go. I have NO problem with needing to request one. And people should be able to request permanent absentee. There should be no hoops to jump through.

And given the pandemic and unsure status....I cannot believe that overcrowded polling places with long lines are a smart thing.
