You can start by looking at what the VAST majority of Muslims are doing today, which is leading peaceful lives. There are almost a billion Muslims in the world, and only a tiny handful are engaged in violence -- and it's actually almost all political violence, where religion is primarily a proxy. (That was also the case with many of the endless wars involving and between Christians in Europe.)
We should note that it wasn't long ago that Westerners shared many of the social mores that we claim to find reprehensible in today's extreme Muslims. Many right-wingers and social conservatives still choke on civil rights, especially women's rights; long for a fantasy world in which Christians were so dominant they could use government to impose their religion on others; some are now advocating the use of government power to enforce their own Christian morality on others (e.g. William Barr, Sohrab Ahmari) or trying to withdraw from mainstream politics to set up their own little Christian theocracies (SSPX in Kansas).
Those radical Islamist groups, by the way, aren't all that much worse than extreme right-wing groups, which routinely incorporate their Christian identity into their violent and terrorist activities. There are lots of Christian white supremacist groups in the US, for example, that want to start a race war and/or take over entire sovereign nations.
And of course, so far Muslim groups haven't engaged in the kind of large-scale genocide we saw committed by Christians for much of their history, most obviously during WWII. In fact, through the centuries, Christians have committed a large share of genocides, and Muslims have been the targets of quite a few such efforts, especially in recent years -- e.g. "ethnic cleansing" attacks on Muslims during the Bosnian War, or China's suppression of Uighurs, or attacks on the Rohingya Muslims in Southeast Asia.
Again, it is clear that you're not interested in a truly "academic" or neutral interpretation of Islam (or Christianity). You just want to attack a religion, as well as ignore the terrible things done in the name of or by members of your own religion.
