actually if i remember correctly it was the democrats in the senate the refused to let the bill pass so that this wouldn't happen.
trump was ready to sign it and they refused to send it to him.

No, it was passed in both republican houses, Trump didn't want any part of it. Trump isn't your friend or anyone's friend. The other two bills passed in the House weren't even taken to Trump by McConnell, he simply refused to take it to him. That's his JOB to do. Even his constituents in Kentucky agree that Mitch McConnell is an obstructionist and they won't vote for him in 2020.

I'm sure in as pertains to her personally that she doesn't care. But as it pertains to all the inconveniences Trump's abrupt cancellation has caused to all other people involved I think she cares. As I understand it Nancy and her group were already on board an Air Force bus about depart for the airfield when Trump decided throw a hissy fit and canceled. Which means there was a crew with orders and an aircraft fully fueled and prepped ready to go along, with all the security and safety preparations in place along the route to monitor the aircraft, security arrangements with US military personnel and foreign governments prepared and stationed in each destination, arrangements with for talks, meetings, both business and ceremonial with VIPs and etc. So lot a people, just did a lot of work, at considerable expense, and expended a lot of good will and effort putting all that together for nothing.

The trip was important to reassure our military in Afghanistan that they won't be abandoned as those in Syria were. The terrorist attack in Northern Syria specifically targeted U.S. military and ISIS is going to once again get a stronghold on that territory that the U.S. currently occupies. But the most important mission of the delegation of lawmakers was planning on stopping in Brussels, Belgium where there was a scheduled meeting with North Atlantic Treaty Organization allies, as well as military leaders. Contrary to Trump’s letter, the delegation was not planning on going to Egypt.

Why would the NATO meeting be so important you might wonder? Congress knows that our NATO partners must be reassured since Trump has repeated Putin's wishes that the U.S. withdraw from NATO. This would be a mistake of epic proportions to say the least.

Good thing nobody's doing that on either side (that I'm aware of). Regardless, you do know this is only Trump attempting to retaliate against Spkr Pelosi for cancelling his invite to present the SOUA to Congress, right? If she hadn't done that, Trump wouldn't have taken this particular step. Ask yourself still...did he do this to other senior members/leaders of Congress? I'd be surprised if he did.

Since the bill that you are talking about was one that was only passed in the lame duck session of the closing days of 115th Congress, and was never signed into law before Congress adjourned, the bill is officially dead with the end of the 115th congress.

This is the 116th congress, all of the prior bills that the previous congress failed to pass are dead and would have to be reintroduced by the new Congress

Answer me this: what is the reason that Speaker Pelosi should bring a bill to the floor That A) was introduced by the opposition party in the prievious congress, b) would not pass this congress, and c) was crafted entirely by the opposition party?

The dem's in the senate had their chance to avoid this mess they chose to filibuster instead of passing the bill and trump would sign.

It's possible, but I doubt it given that "essential services" have to remain open. I had a link and posted it somewhere here and am too lazy to get it now. But I am just about certain it included security for government officials. So, the shut down shouldn't raise security concerns about whatever this trip was supposed to be.

It's also a little too convenient. She jabs at him over a shutdown in regard to SOTU, so he jabs right back over the shutdown.

The purpose of Congressmen in going to Afghanistan was "to affirm the United States' ironclad commitment to the NATO alliance" and "express appreciation and thanks to our men and women in uniform for their service and dedication, and to obtain critical national security and intelligence briefings from those on the front lines."

Since this was supposed to be an affirmation of our commitment to NATO and our allies, it's no wonder that Trump cancelled the use of military planes for their trip since Trump basically loathes our allies and NATO.

Graham — who a Senate aide said could be heard shouting in his office at the matter — added that while he was disappointed in how Pelosi was handling the State of the Union situation, he was "glad the Speaker wants to meet our troops and hear from our commanders and allies."

"I wish our political leadership could find the same desire to work for common goals as those who serve our nation in uniform and other capacities," Graham said.
