Trump Cancels Pelosi's Trip To Egypt, Brussels And Afghanastan

The shutdown has become a personal death match between these two.

You mean you didn't realize that from the start?

For Trump it's about flexing his executive muscle and getting what he wants no matter the cost or consequences.

For Pelosi it's about checking abuse of executive power.

Pelosi's actions have all been to reopen government, get federal employee's the back-pay they're due and put forward security initiatives conducive to strengthening security at the southern border in one instance using the same legislation that came out of the GOP-controlled Senate. Trump, on the other hand, is all about keeping a campaign promise, creating a false narrative on southern border security and having it his way. We'll see how this all plays out around February 1 at best or March 1 at worse. If this standoff continues until the debt limit which is due to be raised in March...

The dem's in the senate had their chance to avoid this mess they chose to filibuster instead of passing the bill and trump would sign.
they filibustered the bill instead.

so the people that are to blame for the shut down are dem's by filibuster the bill that was passed by the house and had the presidents support
that the dem's filibustered.

The bill you are talking about is no more. It died when 115th adjurned

New congress, new legeslation.

She's not going to go without her delegation and if she puts them in harms' way, she deserves to be impeached.
The trip isn't happening until the shutdown is over.

It shouldn't have taken Trump cancelling it for this to happen.

Now, if Republicans skipped town, and McConnel was taking posh vacations in Hawaii, and Republicans took their families to an all-expenses paid vacation to the beaches of Puerto Rico and essential-to-ending-the-shutdown Republicans left the country for a week while 800,000 workers misses ANOTHER paycheck, the Left would be screaming mad. OMG, can you even imagine Morning Joke?

Does anyone remember that Trump took a secret overnight flight to Iraq in the midst of the government showdown? Did he put Melania and John Bolton 'in harms way' as you say, and if so, does he need to be impeached? And to think that he had to endure the horrors of a darkened Air Force One during landing, well...the horrors never end, do they?

"Absolutely. When I heard what ya had to go through. I mean look, I had concerns for the institution of the presidency, because, not for myself personally, I had concerns for the first lady, I will tell you. But if you would have seen what we had to go through, with the darkened plane with all windows closed, with no lights on whatsoever, anywhere, pitch black, I’ve never seen that, been on many airplanes, all types and shapes and sizes, I’ve never seen anything like it."

The purpose of Congressmen in going to Afghanistan was "to affirm the United States' ironclad commitment to the NATO alliance" and "express appreciation and thanks to our men and women in uniform for their service and dedication, and to obtain critical national security and intelligence briefings from those on the front lines."

Since this was supposed to be an affirmation of our commitment to NATO and our allies, it's no wonder that Trump cancelled the use of military planes for their trip since Trump basically loathes our allies and NATO.

Sounds like a photo-op.

I hope you're not stupid enough to think she had any intention of actually taking that trip in the first place.

Guess her luggage being pack and ready to go meant she was not going? :lamo :peace

Well if you guys were honest and open about what you know and what you think we wouldnt have to spell it out for you. And no, Im confident in most discussions. If I am not, I dont participate.

Bull****. That's not it at all. What it is is the right needs to first create a cartoon character they name 'Libbo' and then they need to animate it, give it thoughts and feelings and make it react. Of course they give it characteristics that they can easily mock and denigrate. What would be the point elsewise? But it gets kind of toxic when they can no longer distinguish between their cartoon creation and real life. They start to try to interact with real people as if they were talking to their invention. They start to believe that their imaginary foe is real. They become afraid of their creation and think it's multiplied into a big portion of the population. Soon they demand action by the government to counter the threat imposed by their fictional character.
And they vote for someone like Trump.

Meanwhile it looks like Mnuchin is headed to Davos with his crew and the First Lady is on her way to Florida. Oh well.

It's possible, but I doubt it given that "essential services" have to remain open. I had a link and posted it somewhere here and am too lazy to get it now. But I am just about certain it included security for government officials. So, the shut down shouldn't raise security concerns about whatever this trip was supposed to be.

It's also a little too convenient. She jabs at him over a shutdown in regard to SOTU, so he jabs right back over the shutdown.

Either way, it's nothing important.

The problem for me is employees providing essential services are still working, but are not getting paid for that work, and don't know when they'll next get paid. I'd prefer we (government) do what it can to minimize their workload during that period.....

Sounds like a photo-op.

It's crucial. Our allies need to be reassured that trump is a temporary phenomenon and that our commitment to them is constant. This can't be expressed by the dysfunctional trump administration, of course, so that duty falls to Congress.

LOL.... I hate Trump, but what he did to that skank Pelosi was classic!

:lamo

The usual panty waste liberals are lining right up.

Fun reading.

The misogyny is a good look, and bolsters your credibility I think.

I have no disagreement. This shutdown is bull****. He's using them as pawns for the most cynical of purposes, even more cynical than the last few GOP shutdowns. Telling enough, private industry seems to be offering them quarter in not evicting, not foreclosing, yadda yadda.

My only point was that the decision in question here re: Pelosi's trip is yet more bull****.

It puts me in a rough situation. I have to support more of this if I want it never to happen again. They need to stop being treated like pawns. But they are pawns now, and they hurt. But, on the other side again, if the Dems cave, Trump will keep doing this.

Same thing with his many bankruptcies, his hush deals for prostitutes, etc. He gets away with it, he does it. Period.

"On the House floor on Thursday, a Republican member of Congress yelled “go back to Puerto Rico!” at Rep. Tony Cardenas (D-CA) while he was speaking. Cardenas is chair of Bold PAC, which serves as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus’s fundraising arm and organized the trip to Puerto Rico."

"Without naming names, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) later chided whoever shouted at Cardenas, saying, “I would hope that we could refrain from any implications which have any undertones of prejudice or racism or any kind of ‘ism’ that would diminish the character and integrity of one of our fellow members.”

Just to make this clear, Nancy Pelosi was NOT part of that trip. The trip was intended to educate lawmakers about the ongoing post-Hurricane Maria recovery effort, and featured a roundtable discussion between lawmakers and local officials. The three-day event featured informational sessions on the damage from the 2017 hurricane, meetings with Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, presentations on the controversial oversight board created to meet the island’s bond obligations, and information on how residents of territories can’t access many of the government services available to residents of the 50 states. Bold PAC chose to have this year’s retreat in Puerto Rico “to send a strong message that there is still much work to be done in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria”:

So just let go of the notion that the intention of this trip was fun and games and sun tanning.

The ass that shouted out in Congress is brainless.

Does anyone remember the wailing and gnashing of teeth because OMG TRUMP ISN'T GONG TO VISIT THE TROOPS FOR CHRISTMAS SCROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOGE!!
That trip was a whirlwind 24 hours, not a fricking week when 800,000 workers are facing down the SECOND missed paycheck.

No kidding and I'm sure Bob Menendez was strictly on the beach, shirtless, because he was studying beach erosion post Maria. Also, seeing Hamilton and attending the cast party is certainly essential learning when you want to help poor people living under tin roofs in the mountains of PR.

Yes, they're all wondering, "Does America love us anymore? If only a bunch of Democrats would fly to Afghanistan to reassure us..."

Oh my, you guys come up with some silly stuff.

You seem horribly confused. Either that or you are just completely unaware of the cartoon character right winger that you 'libbos' have created. If you are unaware of what that is, try reading some of the posts your fellow 'libbos' put up here. If you would like me to spell it out for you I will, but there really are certain things in life you need to be able to figure out on your own.

You mean the money Trump was going to raid and pillage. Kinda hard to help people under tin shelters

Well, Trump is fair now, just canceled his delegation's trip to Davos.

Melania still flew to Mar-a-Lago though.

The Mehicans will protect her.

Imagine cancelling a trip to a war zone for the person 2nd in line to the presidency

Imagine announcing the person 2nd in line to the presidency would be in that war zone. He threatened the safety of a fellow law makers and this is a good thing in Trump fan nation eyes.
She didn't need the military transport to go but he made sure she didn't visit troops overseas by announcing her arrival.
Talk about disgusting.

Get real. Pelosi wasn't going to fly commercial into Afghanistan. By taking away the military plane, Trump canceled the trip. It doesn't matter who knows a cancelled itinerary.
