Real news, Fake picture....

The cover said nothing about children taken from parents. Or as the girl might say, nada. It was about their non-welcome to America. I assume the story inside mentions separation among other abuses of these migrants' rights to seek asylum, which.is.the.big.issue., and why there is a call for more government lawyers, volunteers lawyers to oppose them, and more immigration judges.
.

GOALPOST, MOVEABLE Unit of issue 1 each.

By the time the cover was printed they should have known the story.

Lazy at best. Dishonest at worst.

No one was taken from their parents in that photo.

And if you are arguing that some illegally in the US gets deported WITH THEIR CHILD then we can agree... But you and I both know that isn't what the photo was meant to demonstrate.

I know that the photo was meant to demonstrate Trump's callous and likely illegal policies towards potential refugees, his blocking them from seeking asylum and other abuse. It worked, which is might be why it has gotten under your skin. What do you know that about the intent of Time mag?

The photo isn't of a child ripped from mommy's arms. That is what it was represented to be both in original format and edited by TIME.

As I said. Lazy at best, dishonest at worst.

And you defend it.

In addition... Trump is blocking them from seeking asylum?

Really?

Since when?

Last time I checked if they entered the correct port of entry with a claim of asylum they would be processed as such.

Correct me if I am wrong.

Just looked it up, as can you... There are many reports of people being denied the opportunity to apply for asylum at ports of entry. When there is mass migration like this, other countries, and indeed the US, have set up the resources to deal with the large numbers, and then separate refugees from those who do not qualify for such status. Melania's jacket described Trump's attitude.

Old news. MSM is already hard at work finding (creating) the next anti Trump crisis for Americans to latch onto. On Monday.

Well, in all fairness, the MSM (a.k.a. the world) only needs Trump to send out another dimwitted Tweet. They don't have to work at all. The man provides his own anti-Trump crisis. I mean, even his wife can't do a good thing by visiting a camp without purposefully crapping all over herself in the process. Another example:

- In just ten days, the idiot has gone from announcing that North Korea is no longer a nuclear threat...to North Korea remains an extraordinary threat.

This, is clearly a fool and an idiot. This, like just about everything else, is not the media creating the "crisis." This, is Trump proving how stupid he is on an almost daily basis, as his loyalists rack their minds over how best to continue groveling at his altar. I don't know how people do it. Oh I know; they choose to whine about a cover not being a Polaroid and pretending that symbolism is too hard a concept to grasp. From here, they obtusely choose to argue that "fake photo" equals "fake news" or "MSM." And of course, there's FOX News to make them all feel warm in this obtuseness as it pretends to be impartial while desperately defending Donald Trump's altar at all costs.

You see, it doesn't matter that even GOP Senators have declared this mess the "Trump administration's policy." One does not get to exacerbate bad policy for political gain, while blaming the other side, and then not expect to have a huge chunk of orange fat bitten out of one's tushy. All that matters to the loyalists is that the Time magazine article was a Photoshop job. Sort of like this one...

trumpfinal.webp

Except, the loyalists had no problem with Trump being enlarged to break apart the Washington Monument. Where was the Photoshop outcry? Certainly they didn't think that Trump grew! Maybe they just shrunk the Monument to take the Polaroid. Either way, his tie is too long.

"There are many reports"

There are many reports of UFOs.

Your statement was that Trump was BLOCKING them from seeking asylum.

Instead you gave me "reports of" at the border then some hand wringing about Melania and her wardrobe.

Are or are not people being processed for asylum at the ports of entry?

And there also are "many reports" of people attempting to cross the border illegally. Strange. I suppose you have been taken in by those phony stories of illegals, much as I was fooled by reports from much the same sources about people being denied the right to apply.

But to answer your final question is no, then it seems yes. People were denied the ability to apply, that seems to have changed, but I presume there is chaos. Public pressure has worked a bit in this case.

You have to face facts: 1- Trump campaigned against immigrants. 2- he has said inaccurate things about immigrants. 3- he has not (that I have seen) to even mention why many of these people fled Honduras and elsewhere.

He is part of a long tradition in US history of periodic attacks on immigrants that goes back to the 1840s. Don't know what you mean about Melania's jacket, but what was written on the back, as I believe I said, describes his feelings. Just read the back of the jacket, then listen to Trump. Bingo.

All that typing and no evidence Trump BLOCKED asylum seekers.

Got it.

Fake picture... Fake accusation of blocking asylum seekers.

Google it. Try "examples of US blocking asylum seekers". Type those words I put in quotes and press enter.

To be fair, Trump didn't personally block any asylum seekers, but in this case the word "Trump" stands for government officials carrying out his policy.

"Google it" is a blatant admission that you spoke out your ass on the subject.

The widely shared photo of the little girl crying as a U.S. Border Patrol agent patted down her mother became a symbol of the families pulled apart by the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy at the border, even landing on the new cover of Time magazine.

But the girl’s father told The Washington Post on Thursday night that his child and her mother were not separated, and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed that the family was not separated while in the agency’s custody. In an interview with CBS News, Border Patrol agent Carlos Ruiz, who was among the first to encounter the mother and her daughter at the border in Texas, said the image had been used to symbolize a policy but “that was not the case in this picture.”

I had heard about this a couple days ago.

It's really quite a shame that this specific picture was used, since now it not being exactly related to the issue will be used to downplay that issue.

I don't understand:

1- I saw and heard news stories about the topic.
2- You challenged me on it, saying it was a fake accusation
3- I went to google to check on it, which confirmed my point from various news sources that it wasn't fake
4- I reported back to you
5- Apparently I was talking out of my ass.

What would convince you that I saw and heard things and then found things confirming what I saw and heard? Do I need to copy and paste the stories for you? The sources were papers in Corpus Cristi, Dallas Morning News, Wash Post, Vox, NPR, Reuters, El Paso Times, et al.

You could use another search engine if you wish, but a simple question: do you believe that asylum seekers were turned away or not?

I assume you can join me in feeling good that this may not be happening any more.

Someone who gets it...

Note the thread title.. Real News, Fake picture...

There was a real issue to discuss and the message was tainted through the use of an incorrect photo.

And someone who doesn't get it.

Not MY CLAIM.

Ergo NOT MY BURDEN OF PROOF.

Burden was mine, and I proved it to my satisfaction, and showed you sources and how you could find out for yourself. It happened. It apparently no longer is. It was only one of several mistakes made by the authorities, some now corrected, some not.

Do you believe it didn't happen? Would it bother you if it did?

In other words you did not prove jack ****.

You made a claim and failed to back it up.

Got it.

Typical. There is no such thing as journalistic integrity any longer.

Check out Corpus Cristi Caller, Dallas Morning News, Washington Post, the Atlantic, NBC, PBS, USA Today... Even FOX to a certain extent. Enough backup for you?

But you still won't answer the question. Do you think it happened or not? Ultimately it doesn't matter, as it appears this illegal practice has stopped.

No citation...

Failure on your behalf.

Irrelevant. The fact of the matter is that there are children who are being separated from their parents. They're being held in cages, and the public has been prevented from entering the facilities. The few journalists allowed inside were not allowed to take pictures. Whether this one girl was separated or not does not change these facts.

Completely relevant.

Unless of course you support a lazy and/or dishonest press...

THIS CHILD was not one being separated from their parents.

WAS NOT.

The fact is this child WAS NOT separated. Was not.

There are children being separated due to their parents being detained... Yep.

SHE WASN'T ONE OF THEM yet was misrepresented...

Until you let journalists into these facilities with cameras so they can take pictures and video of what is going on in there you leave them no choice, but to go with what they can. You don't get to nitpick about what images the press uses when it's your own fault they can't take better ones.

This isn't a real picture either, but the point it makes is still valid.

<snipped irrelevant cartoon>

Now the cry is "they won't let photographers in" as an excuse for misrepresenting the photo in question...

Moving goalposts.. Always fun to watch.

And "nitpicking"?

The took a child NOT REMOVED FROM HER MOTHER and made her the literal poster child for children who are removed from their parents....

I guess a good name for supporters of this type of misrepresentation is "Liars for border reform" ..
