Real news, Fake picture....

It’s not dishonest at all.

No one could possibly know the disposition of this specific child, and the stories were about more than just separation- it was about inhumane treatment at the border- families turned away from claiming asylum before getting to the US, etc.

A roadkill photo for DDT poisoning would be misleading. But a dead animal in a field that MIGHT LIKELY have been killed by DDT is totally reasonable- and I bet you wouldn’t be crying that there wasn’t a full tox screen done.

No one could know the disposition?

Then why misrepresent it as a photo of the trauma caused by TEH EBIL TRUMP?

That is my whole point.

WHY take a photo that was not confirmed to be about border separation and run it as a photo about border separation?

They committed misdemeanors.

Jared Kushner committee multiple felonies by lying on his security clearance forms multiple times.

Where’s your outrage at the flaunting of the rule of law?

And Hillary committed grave security.... Blah blah blah.

This ain't about Kushner.

It was run as part of the story about the impact the new immigration policy is having upon immigrants.

And this illustrated part of that.

You have your panties in a bunch because you think there’s only one facet to this story.

And, again, at the time no one knew they were not separated, and it kinda makes me wonder why this specific girl was not taken when it clearly is now US policy.

You, of course, could care less about any of this, because you get off whining about a photo.

So what you're saying is facts don't matter as long as the propaganda serves the false narrative.

Its a fine representation of the 2500 children who were taken from their parents.

It was run under false pretenses. Period.

If you read the TITLE of the thread (Real news, Fake picture.... in case you missed it) you would see that I do not consider the STORY to be at issue. Merely the PHOTO...

Call it "whining" if that gets you off.

You mock "fake news" then can't stand it when fake photos are used to tug at the ole heartstrings....

The sportsbooks who make money on these matters disagree with you, Trump is almost an even money favorite
while the #2 according to the books Harris & Bernie are 11 to 1
2020 US Presidential Election

https://www.5dimes.eu/BbGameSelection.asp

601 Republican wins Presidential Election +101
#################################################
101 D Trump wins Presidential Election +125
103 B.Sanders wins Presidential Election +1100
105 K.Harris wins Presidential Election +1100
107 Joe Biden wins Presidential Election +1500
109 Mike Pence wins Presidential Election +1600
111 E.Warren wins Presidential Election +1600
113 O Winfrey wins Presidential Election +2200
115 K.Gillibrand wins Presidential Election +2500

Of course he is the favorite. There is no definition to the opponent. So, there is really no choice to the bettor. Even with that, he is no better than even money.

But, its pretty much impossible to win when 56% of the population thinks you are unfit for office (that is not approval rating; that says most Americans think he is incompetent to dangerous). Trump had many people give him the benefit of the doubt last time; had a weak opponent and the Russian winds at his back...and he still one by only 80,000 votes over three states. Most of those that gave him the benefit of the doubt are now part of the 56%. Unless he can figure out how to expand his base and/or actually appear mature and presidential AND get a clean bill of health from the Mueller investigation, he has very little shot in 2020.

You should go ahead and make the bet....Why not bet the farm? All farmers in American bet the farm in the last vote and many have yet to lose it (but that could be just a matter of time).

Did the caption of the photo State they were separated?

I bet you were agreeing with Chuck todd about two weeks before the election when on 'Meet the Press' he was singing
the tune you love to hear, sounds pretty much like that 56% against Trump stuff you are engaging in now. His approval
is much higher now than the 37% it was then:
PS I already have won over $1,500 betting on Trump beating the odds but thanks for the tip!

Meet the Press - October 16, 2016

Republicans feared that Trump's troubles would metastasize and take out down ballot Republicans threatening the party's
hold on the Senate and perhaps even the House. But we have a new indication of just how dire things have become for Trump.
In our new NBC News Wall Street Journal poll out right now Hillary Clinton leads Donald Trump in a four-way race by ten points
among registered voters, 47/37. If you limit it to just likely voters, check this out. Clinton's lead actually grows to 48/37.

MEET THE PRESS

OCT 23 2016, 12:24 PM ET

does she go for a big win, a landslide? Does she try to quell the talk of a rigged election
by pushing hard into red states like Utah, Georgia, and Arizona, sensing an opportunity for the
biggest electoral victory since the last time a Clinton was on the ballot?

Of course he is the favorite. There is no definition to the opponent.

So who is the dark horse you have hiding in the wings. Please bring Hillary or Bernie back. Better yet (according to "Progressives") put them on the same ticket. Wow, what a vote getting machine

Please remove "moderate" from your profile. It is as big a lie as the picture is.

And that is the USA's responsibility HOW? And gives them the right to break our laws without consequences?

1- Historically, the US controlled politics in Central America for about a century, or rather vetoed politics we didnt like, overthrowing governments, even after fair elections. Reagan's Contras based themselves in Honduras and messed things up there, killing suspected leftists for practice before entering Nicaragua. The US supported government by death squad in El Salvador and Guatemala, leading to the disintegration of portions of those societies, with lots of soldiers and guerrillas around with guns and no jobs when the dust settled. The US has claimed that this is our front yard, or backyard, acted as such, and that is HOW it is the USA's responsibility to deal legally and in a humanitarian way now.
2- If they were in jeopardy in Honduras as I stated in my post you responded to, the have the right under US domestic law and treaties ratified by the US to seek asylum irrespective of their immigration status. So long as the US makes it difficult to apply at the border as reports indicate, they are morally justified in breaking the law. Parts of the Trump admin appear to agree, as some sources say they are not being charged for illegal entry.

And this has what to do with the fact the picture DID NOT represent what the media claimed it represented?

It did. 1- Cute girl refugee. 2- Dumb, heartless administration policy, which is changing a bit thanks to the picture and others.

As noted, the statue representing Iwo Jima didnt represent what was claimed either, in that it wasnt the first flag raised. (That doesnt detract from its beauty and the inspiration it gave troops and the country.) Neither did Bush's landing on a carrier near the California shore post victory in Iraq.

As Jesus teased, you are "straining at a gnat while swallowing a camel." So what if the picture didnt represent what Time claimed it did. It represented reality. It was a parable, if you will.

The widely shared photo of the little girl crying as a U.S. Border Patrol agent patted down her mother became a symbol of the families pulled apart by the Trump administration’s “zero tolerance” policy at the border, even landing on the new cover of Time magazine.

But the girl’s father told The Washington Post on Thursday night that his child and her mother were not separated, and a U.S. Customs and Border Protection spokesman confirmed that the family was not separated while in the agency’s custody. In an interview with CBS News, Border Patrol agent Carlos Ruiz, who was among the first to encounter the mother and her daughter at the border in Texas, said the image had been used to symbolize a policy but “that was not the case in this picture.”

Still doesn't change the fact that the Trump cabal has indeed - and even Republicans will attest - locked up thousands of kids and is making preparation for locking up another 20,000.

Disgusting.

Does anyone claim the statue at Iwo Jima was the he first one raised?

Not that it matters. The flag raising WAS at Iwo Jima.

In the his case the child WAS NOT separated from family.

Opinion noted.

Still, if the program is so EVILE way does one have to misrepresent photos?

So a false representation is a fine one? Why not use a picture of an actual child being separated? Why result to lying?

No one cares. She is a symbol. What is your beef? The cover I saw shows a kid, Trump, and the caption "Welcome to America." That's it. Stay with me here, it is
s-y-m-b-o-l-i-c of Trump's policy put into place several weeks ago. The kid might be Mexican, for all I know. The cover does not say she was separated from her mother.

From USA Today:

'U.S. Customs and Border Protection confirmed earlier this week that the mother and child are together, but the photograph has become a national *symbol* of the heartbreak some families are facing as they enter the U.S.

'Time staff said in a statement the image was selected to become part of the July 2 magazine cover to illustrate "the most visible *symbol* of the immigration debate in America." '

You are free to contact Trump's speechwriter to have him make your outrage (at what, exactly?) part of his next speech on the issue. That will no doubt swing public opinion his way.

And the news also reported that the mother was deported once before and this illegal entry could send her up for a felony.

The message of the photograph however is very poignant and necessary: what happens to children at the boarder...

The problem was not only a picture that never happened (Trump was never there) but the original story that was used to explain the picture said that the girl in the photo was carried away screaming by U.S. Border Patrol agents.
So put the two together and you have fake news, real news is not symbolic without saying it is symbolism. She did not try to evade the boarder patrol, rather she requested asylum, but imaginary is everything in todays' world.

This is the CYA posted by Time:

"Correction: The original version of this story misstated what happened to the girl in the photo after she taken from the scene. The girl was not carried away screaming by U.S. Border Patrol agents; her mother picked her up and the two were taken away together."

The TIME magazine used a child who WAS NOT taken away from her parents to represent children who were taken from their parents..

BRILLIANT!!!

Lets let a Hyundai represent a Lexus. They are both cars.
Right?

Or perhaps an Airbus represent Boeing... They are both aircraft.

Perhaps we can have the clan represent Black Lives Matter.. They are both racially motivated organizations...

This is fun.

Let X equal Y whether or not X has any real connection to Y....

BRILLIANT.

This entire thread is manufactured outrage.

The pic was NEVER meant to be a real picture. The Time pic was a representation of the entire incident Trump and Co created.

Snopes even addressed this:

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/immigrant-girl-never-separated/

And again for those claiming that Trump is simply following laws Democrats passed:

https://www.snopes.com/fact-check/was-law-separate-families-passed-1997/

There were two instances where manufactured outrage was evident. The original publication of the photo and the subsequent TIME cover (when they should have known better)

And the news also reported that the mother was deported once before and this illegal entry could send her up for a felony.

The message of the photograph however is very poignant and necessary: what happens to children at the boarder...

It is so terrible at the border the parents of tens of thousands of children left them in the hands of the border patrol over the years....

The cover said nothing about children taken from parents. Or as the girl might say, nada. It was about their non-welcome to America. I assume the story inside mentions separation among other abuses of these migrants' rights to seek asylum, which.is.the.big.issue., and why there is a call for more government lawyers, volunteers lawyers to oppose them, and more immigration judges. Definition: "Symbol, a thing that represents or stands for something else." She represents kids being mistreated by Trump's policy, one PART of which was separating kids from their family. There are other objectionable parts.

You are free to assume that Time magazine is part of an unnecessary plot to make Trump look cruel towards immigrants, for as you see, he has that job down pat.
