Panic Over High Death Rate

That information has been out for months and the virus is still spreading. The hospitals are filling even with the precautions taken by some. But we all know that people like Rand Paul is not taking precautions. If your store clerks, nurses, doctors, truck drivers all get sick at the same time, then the virus will shut us down, not the government. People are still touching their faces, still not washing their hands and still walking around infecting other people. We must stay home. Public transportation is a confined space. If we go along as normal, those that need to go to work must ride share. That is a confined space. The best way to reduce spread is to stay home

What Dr. Price said pretty much negates the idea that wearing a mask in the grocery store will protect anyone. Masks are considered by some to be the magic charm for protection.

His main point: "the overwhelming majority of people are getting this by physically touching someone who has this disease".

Social distancing is the key right now. What happens in the Fall when Football starts (or doesn't start) for Pee Wee, highSchool, College and Pros?

If Minnesota beats Michigan on October 17 at TCF Stadium, 65,000 fans might die, but they'll die happy.

If the season is cancelled, we'll continue in this seasonless world where we laugh, but not all of laughter and cry, but not all of our tears.

At some point, we will need to leave out homes. At that point, the virus will still be at large, waiting for new victims.

What then?

Like all things, this too will pass. Vaccines will be developed. Immune systems will build a defense. Life will return to normal. But right now, we must protect ourselves and others, the best way we can

There has recently been a panic over the high mortality rate of victims of Covid-19. Any high death count is alarming.

Here are some other high mortality counts from this year to date as of March 24, 2020 at about 8:30 pm or so.

These other mortality count causes don't seem to attract much attention. Covid-19 is also listed for comparison. All of these causes are listed in the same section at Worldometer.

ALL of these numbers reflect this year only, year to date.

1. Abortions: 9,757,860
2. Smoking: 1,147,165
3. Road Traffic: 309,909
4. Suicide: 246,191
5. Regular Flu: 111,595
6. Covid-19: 18,810

Worldometer - real time world statistics

The national goal for the huge number of folks to shelter at home for a few weeks is to flatten the curve so our hospital system is not overrun with all of the cases front loaded during the course of the national epidemic.

When the shelter at home is ended, the pandemic around the world and the epidemic here in the US will not be over. In truth, it may get worse.

However, the hospital system we have will be able to handle the flattened curve demand. There may be drug therapies proven to distribute at that point and there may not be. Certainly, there will not be a vaccine.

This interruption in our lives is not to eradicate the disease from the US before Easter.

It is intended to slow the initial onslaught of Covid-19 victims needing care to a pace at which our hospital system might provide beds in hospitals for the newly struck victims as needed.

Just sayin'... Our social distancing will probably need to evolve as we incorporate a new normal into our lives at the time(s) we return to our normal lives.

Kreton correctly pointed out that the reason the world doesn't have millions of casualties is because the world has taken extreme measures to contain it. Moreover, none of those other death causes completely overwhelm the ERs and ICU facilities at hospitals.

I don't know what it is about the right-wing, that always seems to downplay any threat -- whether it is climate change, the environment or the coronavirus. Oh, and abortions aren't a mortality.

Except liberals. That threat is very real, immediate, direct and critical.

To be fair, liberals do the same on foreign policy. They see tyrannical regimes over others as no offense or threat to us.

I've been trying to find comparable flu mortality rates for 65 and older but I swear that data has been scrubbed from the web and/or hidden behind paywalls.
It's around 1%. "influenza mortality rate by age"

Absolute false. Conservatives all through modern history accepted totalitarian regimes as long as those regimes acted "in America's interest," which generally meant against communism. We accepted the tyranny in the Shah's Iran, the monarchy in Saudi Arabia, South & Central American dictatorships, etc. I can still remember Bush walking hand-in-hand with a Saudi prince.

Is the Iranian regime a threat?
Not until Trump cancelled the nuclear deal that prevented Iran from developing nuclear weapons.

I dont accept crap work without objection, especially when this crap work might well cost me my life.

Okay. So you're just sniping at the efforts of this working their tails off. That's okay. Not helpful, but okay.

I was only wondering.

It is not the amount of work put into the job that matters, it is the getting the job done right that does.

One day of working with Elon Musk would solve your lack of understanding I am quite sure.

Eric Weistein nicely lays out how our front line troops...the medical staff....has been deeply betrayed by bad leadership, and in fact all of America has been...and that a whole lot of crap so-called leaders need to go....you might take a look:

Vaccines are about a year away unless our genius scientists and doctors already had something in the pipeline they can refine to target this thing.

Immunity develops in a person when when that person is infected.

When we get back into a semblance of normality, we will still be, in the majority, at risk. Even if we reach a level of infection similar to Swine Flu, 60 million individuals, that will leave 270 million who are NOT immune.

That's a lot!

Did I downplay the threat? I believe that I noted that the threat will remain even AFTER everything we are doing and we have been declared to have come out of the problem on the other end.

Coronavirus is an actual threat about which we can do and are doing something.

Climate change is a conclusion looking for an excuse. Did you know that after the world shut down for a month in March 2020, that the CO2 concentration in our atmosphere INCREASED by 1.54 ppm? What's wrong with this picture?

Regarding Abortions, you'll need to take up your objection to its inclusion with Worldometer. I only used their listing of fatalities from the section in which they post them.

It is an interesting question, though. Why was Scott Peterson convicted of two murders when he killed his pregnant wife? By legal definition, murder can only be committed when one person kills another person.

According to this legal precedent, then, this unborm baby was a person at the time it was killed. If the unborn baby was NOT a person, nobody could have "murdered" it. Our legal system declared that it was "murdered".

Again, sniping at the efforts of those doing the work.

The need for some of these items has increased from 10,000 to 20,000 in one week to 300,000 in a single hospital. That is an increase of about 20 times. That demand increase happened over the course of a week or two.

In order to satisfy this need, new manufacturers are being created because China, the unreliable source that Trump's been warning us about, stopped delivery of the items we were buying from them.

Added demand plus interrupted supply will create a shortage.

Trump and his team have both inspired and compelled American suppliers to fill the need. Satisfying this need has created additional manufacturing and also inspired sterilization techniques not explored before this.

Following this crisis, it seems very logical to move much of this essential manufacturing back to the USA and end our reliance on the Chi-Coms. Lord knows they've demonstrated their ability and willingness to throw us under the bus.

A little provision of incentive to have this stuff manufactured domestically seems like a small price to pay to assure reliable supplies if this ever happens again.

It's interesting that the Chinese sent us this virus, lied about the source and scope, threatened to cut off delivery of essential medicines, did cut off PPE equipment and tried to blame the US military.

The Democrat-Socialist Party loyalists in the face of China's lies, malevolence, threats and denial blame Trump. China is hurting us. Trump is help ing us.

What's wrong with the Democrat-Socialists that makes them think this way?

Is LaBron going to do another PSA for the Chinese Communist Party? That should correct everything.

Of the list of events that led to death, the valid comparisons are traffic deaths and the flu.

The mortality rate for traffic accidents is currently 14 times less than cv19, and I can’t tell you exactly what that is for the flu because I don’t know how many Americans have been infected with it this year, but going with the annual average of .1, that makes it 13 times less deadly than cv19.
And an added bonus of of this lockdown, measures implemented could be less traffic accidents, which will likely also mean less traffic fatalities.

True. And there will be an added bonus in hours saved and CO2 emissions prevented when the world finally accepts that so many workers don’t actually need to commute to an office because all the job requires is a phone and an internet connection.

When I Googled Coronavirus panic, I got 324,000,000 hits. Here's one.

Coronavirus Panic Buying Puts Grocery Workers and Shoppers at Risk of Infection — ProPublica

[h=2]Coronavirus Panic Buying Puts Grocery Workers and Shoppers at Risk of Infection[/h]Braving grocery store crowds when you’re already stocked up puts you at risk of getting sick or infecting others, including elderly workers and others who have no choice but to be there.

Oh no, so ProPublica refers to extra buying, preparing, as "panic buying", and it must mean that we are in a general state of panic? There is a huge difference between true panicking and overreacting when it comes to buying food to ensure you are stocked, just in case it happens you and/or your family have to quarantine for 2 weeks +. True panicking isnt even what happens every year on Black Friday, and that is far worse than what is happening with buying here, which is about on par with buying in preparation for a blizzard, ice/snow storm, or hurricane in those affected areas, only much more longterm due to the nature of this event.

I'm sure that people who die from other causes are gratified that they are dying in a pursuit that works at a lower rate.

Hopefully, the rate of deaths and spread will slow as the pandemic goes forward.

In China, the death charted in a curve as described by Dr. Fauci seems to have gone down and is not a constantly rising tide. The other death causing issues listed seem to move forward pretty steadily in normal times.

Regarding the appropriateness of grouping of the death causing issues, you need to take that up with Worldometers.

I'm sure they are happy they are still able to get help and maybe not die after all because the healthcare system isnt maxed out with coronavirus patients.

You're saying that you have seen no difference in the buying habits of the general public?

Really? Nothing?

Even CNN sees this. CNN SEES THIS! If even CNN sees this, it makes me wonder how blind you need to be to miss this.

So far so good.

Are you aware that health care workers are sick and dying because of exposure?

Please do not trivialize what is happening.
