House Republicans again block passage of disaster aid bill

Voice votes require 100% support. 1 republican stopped disaster aid to CA for fires, Gulf Coast and PR for hurricane aid because it didn't have wall funding. Maybe he didn't know that Mexico was going to pay for the wall.

Baloney. The entire Border Patrol, to a man, including Obama's border chief, are on the record that they need a strong physical barrier that will help them main control of the border. Not one of them thinks the wall/fence/barrier will solve the problem, but it is an integral part of it.

Yes, so where did that 2006 money go? And why is "the wall" all that you people have cared about since Trump made it fashionable in 2016? Immigration enforcement has received $324 billion since 2003. And all organizations always want more money. It is baloney and it is politicized baloney. If Border Patrol declares that they need fencing, then buy some fencing. The Pentagon doesn't receive billions and then cry that they failed to purchase what they needed to defend the nation. That's what the money is for. Or is Border Patrol waiting for combat trained Marines, after paying for it, to go down and put a fence up for them too?

If you want hundreds, thousands, millions of illegals in your town, living in your house, ask for them. I'm sure President Trump would be more than happy to direct that you get a whole big bunch.

See? This is that FOX News hyperbole you have been bombarded with. Are there thousands and millions of illegals hanging out in your living room? The illegal immigration issue is what it has always been. Except now, the passage of time has blown past the older contexts in which our immigration laws fit better. Hence the need to reform bad code while you people busy yourself with "walls" for the immigrants to climb over and tunnel under.

But until you are willing to support legislation that helps our own American veterans that need help, that deal with the American homeless, that improves opportunities for Americans, don't give me any bleeding heart lectures that the vast majority of those hundreds, thousands, millions of illegals are here for any reason other than to access our generosity and resources. And trying to divert the discussion to other issues that merit attention is not the best way to impress me with your debating skills.

Familiar. This is the FOX News crap my Mother declares. Because this is a Veteran issue now? It's about our resources? And you talk about diverting attention? It's like you people walk away from your community television sets with your distracting scripts in hand. After "crime and the terrorism" angle proved false, it's now become about the homeless Veteran and our resources? OK...

- Vets. The issue is not funding. The VA receives hundreds of billions of dollars a year. The VA offers millions of dollars in small business grants, home assistance, elderly Veteran assisted living, etc. The issue is, yet again, a broken system with a lack of quality in employees. As for the homeless Vets, they fall into the same category as other homeless people: mentally ill. Most, if not all, have families, but choose to be homeless. The lacking of funding towards America's insanity began under Ronald Reagan. Fund that issue, and you may get a handle on the homeless Vet issue, which FOX News exaggerates to get your "patriotism" fueled up against immigration. Denying the Mexican family somehow helps a Vet? Hard to get that line drawn if one thinks beyond the bumper sticker. I tire of you people exploiting and insulting the military for political purposes. It's false patriotism and actually avoids helping a Vet.

- Generosity? Like our free medical or something? We aren't Europe. They come here for the same reason immigrants have always come here. Nothing has changed, except now Central Americans are leaving the "****holes" that we created for them. You want people to stay in Central America? Here's a thought... fix Central America and give them a reason to stay home. We do have a history with this in India. Trump did exactly that with Mexico when he reformed NAFTA. Time will tell, but I suspect that much of the burden that out-of-work Mexican farmers have suffered because of NAFTA is going to be eased under the new trade deal (if it was done right). With a proper means to feed their families, why would they come north? It's the whole reason illegal immigration dramatically increased by the late 1990s in the first place.

And by the way, by trying to use all these social distractions to rage about immigration, you are actually declaring that America should practice socialism. Yet, on any other thread, you will rage against "the left" and their communism/socialism while celebrating tax-cuts. This is the sort of nonsense that FOX News arms you people with. Your ideologies lack firm ground anymore.

I don't know where the 2006 money went but it absolutely didn't go to produce the physical barrier that was intended. As for the rest of your post, it does not change what I posted in any respect.

Nancy Pelosi knows the Constitution better than almost anyone in Congress and the sworn duty of every Congressman, no matter which political party they're affiliated with, is to check the powers of the presidency. This is what was intended by the drafters of the Constitution in order to prevent any one president from having too much power and the country becoming a dictatorship. Yes, the Democrats would usurp the monies from anyone, even those suffering the loss of homes and businesses as a result of natural catastrophic events. They don't care as long as Trump gets his wall money. Screw everyone else.

Suddenly the constitution matters to Democrats.

Actually you said he wanted a wall not a fence.

Care to show a video of Obama advocating for a wall?

Hair splitting. Goodie.
I understand there are specialty shampoos for that...

You have to make the distinction, there is a difference between a wall and a fence. Either you want a solid wall or you don't.

If you hired a contractor to build a wall around your house and they built a fence, I'm sure you would say okay cool I'm not about to hair split the difference here's your money.

Oh, you were insulted? You were denigrated? I'm not the one clinging to extremist websites to maintain an ideology and expecting others to abandon reason so that you can feel good about it. You insult yourself by denying simple truths. I merely don't play your game. One doesn't get to expressly choose to lie about subjects and then feel insulted when called out for the lies. In this case:

- Notice how AlbqOwl went from knowingly misrepresenting the 2006 Act as a "wall"...to properly holding the discussion after I called the lie out. I shouldn't have to do that to get a decent conversation out of you people. Had I not called it out, her entire discussion would be about how Democrats would be fine with a "wall" were they not hateful to Trump, which is exactly the question you asked me. Its's a false conversation based on falsehood just to protect a false ideology. There is no reason if one digs in and refuses to budge out of the BS. Start with facts and acknowledge the facts.

- Yet...it was you who initiated the discussion with me for calling out AlbqOwl's lie.

- It was you who asked me to back up my declartin about FOX News.

- It was you who chose to reply by using an alt-Right fringe website in order to counter-argue against facts.

You didn't even try to hit a nail in your alt-right cut/paste job. Funny how you people are all about "the left," yet fail to recognize where you sit on the spectrum now. Virtually the entire spectrum is "the left" to you people. And you are not being trolled. This is that reasonable discussion you have declared to be able to hold.

Psst...hey Sarge…

Wall/Fence/Barrier. You hang your *****-hat on a distinction between these 3 words? Lord how disingenuous can one human be? They really need to develop a treatment for this TDS. Its embarrassing. Further to your post...I see you don't approve of the...how did you term it...alt-right sites I think it was? So here...have a big wiff of the abject lies and stupidity of the left?
I give you this piece of ****. Don Lemon...worst reporter on the planet.

This argument is one born of desperation.
But here...this might help.

 Even you know there is a difference between a wall and a fence. You are the one trying to split hairs acting like there is no difference.

EDIT: Sorry, I put up pictures to make a point but then realized if there is no difference to you, you might not be able to tell which one is which. The first one is a fence and the second one is a wall.

IT SERVES THE PURPOSE!
Call it what you like, and rinse thoroughly after use.

Suddenly the constitution matters to Democrats.

No, it's not suddenly. Why the hell do you think we've been shaking our fists for the past two years? It's because he's been defying the Constitution on a regular basis, and you turned a blind eye to all of it. Democrats care about 'democracy' and democracy is founded on our Constitution. When we lose it, we're no longer a democratic republic. The fact that the right could ignore the fact that he's tearing down our two hundred year old laws and traditions is an unspeakable wrong you're doing to all of us.

Exactly, why pall for a big ass expensive concrete WALL when a cheaper more practical FENCE will serve the purpose?

I agree. Hungary has a fence and it apparently works well. So you can say, "Wall off the entire southern US border with a huge fence filled with barbs and spikes. Hell, because fences are cheaper, make a series of them so the illegals have an impossible gauntlet to go through before they actually cross."

You can say that...

I wouldn't say wall off a place with a fence. I'd say fence that place off. :2razz:

They are both fences not walls, or no?

Why be dishonest and call a fence a wall or a wall a fence?

So, you believe that a 4ft chain link fence is the same as a 30ft bollard fence reinforced with concertina wire being used at the border? Yeah, ok....What ever.... Come on back when you want to honestly discuss things....hahahaha!

They are different kind of fences but still fences and not walls.

I mean really, am I being the dishonest one here just because I want to call a fence a fence and a wall a wall??

Do you really believe the 30ft bollard fence reinforced with concertina wire is the same as a concrete wall?

It must have been Christmas Treed somehow, is there something buried in the bill the authors were trying to make a wedge issue.

Not buried, but missing. Money for Trump's wall was not in the bill.

:yt

Excuse me? I am absolutely addressing the specific topic of the thread.

Whataboutism isn't "addressing the specific topic" since this thread is about a much-needed disaster relief bill.

No, I don't, but at the same time, to compare it to household fencing from Home Depot is disingenuous to say the least...

Now, I could say that Trump is actually compromising, and Democrats look rather foolish in their objections to a barrier at the border that the BP says is needed...Why?

If Democrats really believe that getting relief to those impacted by these disasters, then they should take politics out of it, and stop trying to poison every bill that comes up in that regard...Offer a clean bill with no attacks at the President, or his initiatives, and get it done...Instead, they will use these victims as pawns...

Now you know how dems have amassed such a long list of Trump lies, for example. Some Trump 'lies' are outright incorrect accusations. Some Trump 'lies' are 'circumstantial'. All Trump 'lies' are political accusations.

This is off-topic, but that's an excellent example of how Trump's die hard supporters defend his nearly constant lies and false narratives.

:bravo:

I firm agree with you on this last sentence, "Voice votes that involved anything that affects the people in any way, i.e. imposes a law, mandate, regulation, or costs money, should be outlawed anyway."

The rest is a matter of historical House and senate records.

Do they not record voice votes?
