Did the “send her back” chant go too far?

Why? I know about that article. Show me posts from all the left leaners on here attacking his military service. I can show you lots of posts from Trump devotees doing it.

Doesn't change the fact that the GOP is now modeling that piece of garbage Donald Trump. It is not the GOP of McCain. Trump owns the GOP lock stock and barrel. And he is destroying it, which at this point, i don't even care about. The GOP deserves everything bad that will happen to it - and it will be bad.

It’s one thing to say something to the effect of leave if you hate it here so much. It’s another thing to say an American citizen should be sent somewhere against their will.

The words used by the president were inappropriate, especially when used against members of Congress who are his political opponents.

Did anybody else catch Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy blatantly lying through his teeth while trying to give Trump cover?

He said Trump stopped it immediately. 13 seconds later, after basking in the glory of his worshippers chanting.
He said it was a "small group on the side". It was everyone, including everyone sitting behind him. Even Thom Tillis said it was basically the entire arena.
He said Trump never mentioned the names of the 4 Congresswomen. Trump said each of their names, with a dig.

Trump lies. McCarthy lies. The party is on a death spiral now.

Here's a YouTube version of that performance:

That was something else. He's shameless - you'll have to give him credit for that. Like Trump, "Hey, don't believe your lying eyes and that video, THIS other thing is what happened!"

No. I don’t think it hurt him but I also don’t think helped. Saying nothing at all would have had the exact same effect.

Saying nothing at all would signal that he agreed with her. He did not and gave his reasons. What problem does anyone have with behaving with decency, honor and respect.
I disagreed with McCain on many of his views but respected his service in the military and captivity and in his capacity as a senator.

Disgusting, isn't it? Is this ass leading the Republicans or simply a Trump apologizing toady?

I was a member of a different forum at that time and I remember. Your contention that no Dems denigrated his service is false.

And the words used against the President by his political opponents haven’t ever been?

My contention that NO Dems denigrated his service also never happened. You may want to read my posts again.

Back to the issue at hand. It's Trump, the disgusting creep that announced how much he doesn't like POWs. What happened to all that patriotism, we must respect our brave troops talk that the Republicans chanted for years? Went right out the window when everyone (except me and other real patriots) threw their support behind the military-hating draft dodger Trump. Who also brought the racists out of the woodwork.

Patriotism? Haven’t you heard? This country was founded on white supremacy (according to Beto) and patriotism is racist, as is celebrating the anniversary of our moon walk, apparently. It really would be interesting, though, to know if most of those in the military consider him “military hating.”

I agree that the enthusiastic crowd went too far.

IMHO, she should be ignored. Don't even mention her name.

Let her bloviate all she wants.

The more she says, the better the chances for President Trump's reelection.

I do wonder of the majority of Americans view “the squad” with the same reverence as what we see here. For sure the Dems are banking on it, and I guess we’ll see soon enough.

He said he wasn’t happy with it. That’s pretty clear.
He also said that he discouraged it, which the video footage showed that he lied.

Clearly, staff got to him after the fact and emphasized that he needs to walk this back. Yet, the original is what he really believes and that's troubling.

I know, that’s what I’m saying.

What you are arguing is utterly ludicrous, that is the point. You are like some codependent woman with a piece of a **** boyfriend that can't seem to convince everyone that he is actually a good person, just misunderstood.

That was Trump's rally. Trump was the only one there with a microphone. If Trump didn't like the "send her back" chant, why did he not say something to the crowd right then?

Furthermore, you treat every racist thing Trump does in total isolation, as though there is no pattern.

He has been sued for housing discrimination.

To this day, he will not admit the Central Park 5 are innocent despite their having been exonerated by DNA evidence, and another individual confessing to the crime.

He opened his campaign by claiming that Mexico was largely just sending over rapists with some being "good people".

He claimed a judge could not be fair to him because that judge was Hispanic.

He has retweeted white supremacist propaganda on numerous occasions.

White supremacists love him. In fact he is the most beloved president by white supremacists ever. They didn't like Reagan, Bush Sr, Clinton, Bush, they sure as hell didn't like Obama, but they love Trump. Why do you think that is?

He describes inner city areas as cesspools and non-white countries as **** hole countries.

He made a political name for himself by spending the Obama years as the biggest birther on earth, constantly claiming that he had evidence Obama was born in Kenya or that he didn't have a valid birth certificate.

He claimed that after seeing America, immigrants from Nigeria would "never go back to their huts".

That is just a small sample of Trump's lifetime of racism and bigotry. So you know what, you want to be a Trump supporter, you get to own all his racist baggage too. That's how it works.

What does Beto have to do with this? And what does the moon walk have to do with this? Nothing.

This is about Republicans being hypocrites and frauds. Beto isn't a Republican.

I’m mainly interested in what my fellow righties have to say, but of course anyone can vote. I hadn’t heard or read about it until this morning. IMO, yeah, I think it went too far and I’m glad the President made it clear he didn’t agree with it. It is one thing to suggest that someone leave the country on their own because they seem to intensely dislike it here, but chanting to “send her back,” presumably involuntarily, because we don’t like what she said? That’s not good and we shouldn’t defend it.

Attaching poll.

The "go back where you came from phrase" has a lot more to do with patriotism than racism in the modern world. The best way to verbalize the sentiment is to say "if you don't like it here, leave". This has been voluntarily offered by all sorts of people as a solution if they don't get what they want in an election (remember how many celebrities were going to Canada in 2016?), so how can it be racist?.

Once you start saying "send them back" you begin to sound anti-immigration and potentially racist unless you are talking about illegals. I suggest that we don't open the door for debate derailment by using poor phraseology.

At the end of the day I think all of these phrases are based in patriotism, whereas the left thinks they are all racist. Then again just labeling myself a conservative makes me a racist in the mind of some...

So you are a patriot now? When did that happen? Because you sure we're not one when Trump publicly sided with Putin against American intelligence. You were not a patriot when Trump publicly absolved the North Korean dictator for ordering the torture and murder of Americans. So this patriotism thing for you must be pretty new.

There's a quote for that! "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

Like the one on the ICE detention center?

Well there is something that could be said that Trump's rhetoric and pandering to racist groups has inspired Antifa's actions.

The problem is YouTube is full of examples, and we've all seen them, of dumbass racists/bigots screaming to some non-white - "Go back to ______!" It's so common there's no need to even post them, it's a dog bites man story - racist telling a Hispanic to go back to Mexico. Ho hum, in other news it's Friday.

It appears to be a universal experience of people with obviously ethnic backgrounds, and those in the public eye claim to hear it daily or weekly as a routine part of their hate mail.

So when it's something racist/bigots say to non-whites on a very regular basis, and it is, then it's actually fair to ascribe the common use of the tactic to a display of racism or bigotry, and in this case Trump used it to target a black woman, a Hispanic and two Muslims one of them also black. The crowd chanted it at a black Muslim.

We should all be able to call that what it is, and if it's not racism/bigotry, it's indistinguishable from countless acts of racism and bigotry and we're all supposed to pretend that the ethnicity of these women was just a coincidence. Could be true, but if you don't want to be mistaken for a racist/bigot, it's a good idea not to parrot what they say.

No. Telling someone to "go back where you came from" is antithetical to American values. This is especially true if the reason one said that phrase is because someone else disagrees with you. It reminds me of the Vietnam War protests of the 1960s, when right-wing construction workers would chant that. To them, following a president, right or wrong, was patriotism, when it is really misguided patriotism.

In the case at hand, we can read between the lines when Trump targets women of color and tells them that the countries that they came from are disasters and they should go back there and fix them before telling people in America what to do. The statement is idiotic on many levels. One of those levels is that all are House Members who literally got elected to fix what is wrong in America.

And when did you all decide Russia was bad and not our friend? Please promise me that long after Trump is out of office you will remember how you feel about Russia now.

There's a quote for that! "When someone shows you who they are, believe them the first time."

That’s from Maya Angelou and it’s always been one of my favorites. Are you believing who Ilhan Omar is?

Well there is something that could be said that Trump's rhetoric and pandering to racist groups has inspired Antifa's actions.

Whereas calling them concentration camps and calling Border Patrol agents Nazis clearly had nothing to do with it.
