2019 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament

my athletic career is not relevant, but I did play college ball.

the fact is, basketball is a team sport

A team is more than one person. Was he the only guy who sweat?

Were others who did not even get on the court with him every day in practice?

You don't think a coach, trainer, team manager, athlete counselor, and even the AD are part of the team?

When you praise one guy like that you diminish all others on the team. That is not right.

No man is an island.

I have seen you attitude in youth sports and it's terrible. Ever see the look on a kids face when an unhappy parent yells from the sideline that they just need to stop #9, he's their whole team?

I have even seen coaches in high school, trying to demoralize the opposition, by yelling this because one player was much better than everyone else on the court.

The guy had a great game. t was not him vs Virginia.

I hope you just never thought it through....

I am not at the sidelines of a little league baseball game yelling at kids.

I understand what you are saying though. I very well know that Edwards couldn't have done any of that without his team mates.

But just step back a little and realize this whole conversation about Purdue is basically you, myself and Jack Hayes.

To not say that Purdue hopes were on Edwards' ability is dishonest.

But, today is another day of March Madness. Moving on to the games today. It will be interesting how Duke does today.

Enjoy the game friend, did not mean to be disrespectful to anyone.

Purdue prepared and responded well, but UVA made a nearly perfect play.

Responding well and losing is an oxymoron.

VA played it well - I agree with you. And in allowing them to do that Purdue gave away the game that was theirs.

I prefer to say Virginia won the game.

Saying Purdue gave it away is not fair to the Virginia team that executed.

You could say, Virginia was just better when it counted most.

UVA executed a difficult play to near perfection. If the free throw shooter had not been Kyle Guy I suspect they would have tried something else.

Again no. There is no defense against a perfectly executed play.

I feel sorry for Auburn. What a blow, to lose their best player like this.

Talking about injuries, I'm worried about Cam Reddish. Duke will need all of our firepower to beat Michigan St. I'm afraid that without Cam, our third best scorer, a very close game will tip in favor of the Spartans.

Duke can beat them, but Duke needs to be at full force to do so. I'm very nervous. Coach K said it's a game-time decision. I hope Cam plays, and is healthy enough to perform well. We need him.

Duke has a great group of four outstanding freshmen, but we don't have a lot of depth. It's our biggest weakness.

Purdue had no one who could go as high as Diakite and -- critically -- Diakite knew where the ball would hit the rim.

We simply disagree. And out acceptance of failure is different also.

Auburn with silly turnovers within the last five minutes of play. They are shooting themselves in the foot.

5'11" 175 lbs Jared Harper leads the Auburn Tigers in Overtime past Kentucky 77 - 71. Auburn advances to the Final Four!

Congratulations Auburn fans!

Do you hurt yourself when you lat yourself on the back like that and declare victory?

I apologize for that post. Irritation got the better of me.
Point to be made is that UVA won by running a play few teams could emulate.

Wow, Duke was cruising, 9 points ahead, completely dominating MS on defense, and then Zion collected his 2nd foul, and the team fell apart. 13-0 run by MS. It's like the players know that they can't win without him, got nervous about possible foul trouble, and everybody freaked out. Wow. Coach K should have called a timeout to calm them down.

Let's see what will happen in second half. I'm nervous. For the first time in the tournament, the players look rattled. Let's not forget, these are young guys, freshmen. So, nerves can be a factor. Up to this meltdown, they were showing mental toughness.

Coach K, do something to rein in your troops, during halftime!

OK, so finally Duke loses a close game. 1-point loss. I guess it's karma, we abused our good luck with the previous close calls. The players looked rattled and nervous today, making atypical mistakes. So, I guess their inexperience as freshmen caught up with them at the end.

The sad thing is that we're at the end of the one-and-done era, and we won't be seeing these fabulous players like Zion in college basketball any longer, given that they'll be going directly to the NBA. Sad.

OK, it was a good run while it lasted. Congratulations to Michigan State. Good bye, guys.

Ringo Starr - It Don't Come Easy

One, two,
One, two, three, four!
It don't come easy
You know it don't come easy
It don't come easy
You know it don't come easy
Got to pay your dues if you wanna sing the blues
And you know it don't come easy...

Three more games! March Madness segues into April!

(5)Auburn v. (1)Virginia

(3)Texas Tech v. (2)Michigan State

Congratulations Spartan fans!

The gods of college basketball are cruel but not without a sense of humor, and they respect karma.
Texas Tech coach Chris Beard is a Bob Knight disciple facing Jud Heathcote's Michigan State successor Tom Izzo. That game should be a rock fight.
Auburn is the inspirational story as far as the players go, overcoming injury loss to prevail over Kentucky. But the NCAA really tried to run Bruce Pearl out of coaching a while back, and now he's in the Final Four.
Last year UVA was the first 1 seed to lose to a 16 seed. This year they're in the Final Four. How will Duke feel if UVA wins it all?

We'll feel good. ACC pride. Our beef is with the Tar Heels, not with the Cavaliers (or at least not as much). Me, I'll root for Virginia.

Duke lost today out of 14 turnovers. The freshmen got nervous. It happens. The one thing that makes me sad is that we won't ever see a group of spectacular freshmen like this one, because the truly great ones will be going directly to the NBA.

I know people tend to hate Duke (because we win a lot) but lovers of the sport should have been well advised to root for Duke, because it is probably the last chance of seeing a player like Zion Williamson in college basketball, and it would have been nice to see him win it all at the end, to join the ranks of the truly greatest college basketball players of all time, before turning pro.

I wish they had given him the ball for the last play; he's the clutch one. Barrett is great be he isn't Zion.

It's incredible how a game can be lost in small details. One point loss. Given that Zion has a steady point production and he sat out for several minutes due to foul trouble, that was enough to drop a tiny bit Duke's average points per minute of play (not to forget that his teammates freaked out when he got the second foul early, and then in the middle of that turmoil, allowed a 13-0 run by Michigan State. Again, had that not happened, this 1-point differential at the end would have been different). That foul was the turning point. Duke had all the momentum until it happened with a huge run of our own, and Michigan looked rattled, behind by the highest margin since the start of the tournament (9). Then, foul on Zion, he sits, everything falls apart. Darn.

I think, if Zion had played some 3 more minutes, we'd have scored some 4-6 more points and the game would have been out of reach for the Spartans, at the end. And their big run wouldn't have happened. Just then and there you get 17 points that would have profoundly changed the 1-point defeat at the end.

I'm not saying the Spartans didn't deserve it. From the beginning, I was saying that the Spartans were the best #2.

i'm just saying, losses come out of small details like this, when both teams are this good. This time, we were on the losing end. We were overdue for a fall, after the three previous close calls, so that's that.

I can't even say "better luck next year" because it won't be the same thing, with the change in eligibility rules. This is why Coach K has been so upset, and even bitter. He knows that it's the end of an era. At age 72, he probably is now thinking of quitting. Recruiting will never be the same. He has won it all. He makes 9 million dollars per year; is filthy rich. Why should he continue, if his teams won't be as good any longer? He will no longer have the pleasure of coaching a guy like Zion. That's why he went on a long rant against the NCAA during the interviews after the Virginia Tech game. Coach K should now peacefully enjoy his fortune with his nice wife. He gets very nervous and runs into medical issues. It's time for him to let go.

Other Duke fans will kill me for saying so, but I'm just thinking, Coach K deserves a nice retirement. I wish him well, and I don't want him to be bitter and frustrated. I'm very grateful for what he did for the program all these years. The game won't be as it was, any longer, so, for him, carrying on will be really anticlimactic.

Anyway, this is just my guess. Certainly he hasn't given any indication that he's about to quit. Maybe he'll want to stay around, to see if he pushes the NCAA around to get a better agreement with the NBA. If he quits, his considerable influence is gone. We'll see.

I am hoping for Michigan State in the finals against Auburn... although it would come as a shock to me if it was Virginia.

Zion didn't touch the ball the last three Duke possessions.
