2017 College Football Thread [W:49]

First playoff game in my 16 team version plays on the weekend before Christmas, right after finals. Elite 8 is Christmas weekend, final four and the CG is like it is now.

And if the SEC and especially Alabama keeps ending up in the championship game, what then? After all, that is the primary motivation for all of these extended playoff scenarios. That was the motivation for the four team playoff to begin with.

They win 4 post season games; they deserve a title. As it is now, it's a bit undeserved.

That is simply your opinion. The four teams are judged based on the entire season. And Alabama proved the committee's decision right when they beat Clemson.

That's assuming the Clemson choice was correct. I say, screw the idea of letting elites choose four teams. Throw 16 of the top teams into a pile and let the games decide.

Undefeated UCF is the true National Champion.

Those chosen each year to serve on the committee are made up of coaches, athletic directors, former players, etc. one of the members in this season's committee is the Athletic director at OSU...the team many of you thought should have been picked over Alabama.

Sorry. It it simply does not work that way. Strength of schedule cannot be left out. Look at the UCF schedule and then Try to tell me that UCF deserves to call themselves the National champions:

2017 UCF Knights Football Schedule | Central Florida

How many power 5 teams do you see in that line up? And also keep in mind that the bowl game that they played against Auburn meant alot more the UCF then it did to Auburn. Auburn had already lost three games and their Juniors and Seniors were more concerned about their NFL stock then a bowl game that was meaningless to where they ended up for the season. More power to UCF for beating them, however it was not the college equivalent of a super bowl.

You're just happy because two SEC teams are playing in the Redneck Bowl tonight. Me, I'd rather watch paint dry.

The current system is just a continuation of the corrupt arrangement that was used a few years back to keep Boise State out of the championship. Still corrupt; still illegitimate. Congratulations to National Champion UCF.

I am obviously happy that Alabama is in the championship game. And yes, if Alabama was not in it, I would cheer on any SEC team that was in it. I am first an Alabama fan and second, an SEC fan. If you want to call the game a "redneck bowl", that's up to you, however keep in mind that the two teams in that bowl beat very worthy non SEC teams. Both Clemson and Oklahoma are very good teams. if you are not an SEC team, I do not look down on you are any other non-SEC fan sitting this one out. I would probably do the same if it were two Big Ten or Big 12 teams...though I would perhaps just root for the underdog.

I'm sure OCF honestly believes GA and Alabama are the two best teams in the country. That's not my gripe with his argument. My gripe is that he will not even consider the idea that they are not.

Simply put, there should not have been two SEC teams in the final four. UCF, OSU, USC, ND, Texas Christian... I don't really care. Anyone but two teams from the same conference.

Simply put....we are talking about college football which does not work the same as professional football. The playoff committee is simply charge with picking the best four teams for the playoff games. They pick those teams according to the established protocols which every coach in college football voted on. If it occasionally means two teams from the same conference make it into the title game....so be it. If you want a system where it's all based strictly on the quantity of wins and losses, they you are more invested in the NFL then college football.

If that was true, UCF would have been in, and Bama would be watching.

I believe that GA and Alabama are the two best teams of this season based on strength of schedule and performance this season. Do I accept that there may be another college team or two out there that is equal to Alabama or GA in overall talent? Certainly. For instance, I consider OSU overall as talented as Alabama and perhaps more talented then GA, however they lost by over 30 points to Iowa, a team they should have soundly beaten. Had they beaten Iowa, I would have had no justifiable complaints about them getting into the playoffs over Alabama. Had Alabama lost to for instance "Mercer", I would have accepted that they would not have been qualified for the top four.

UCF > Auburn > Alabama.

Look at UCF's schedule. Most of the teams on their schedule are what most power 5 teams would consider cupcake teams. It would have been ludicrous to put UCF over other very good teams who did not get into the top four.

Cavs play Timberwolves at 8. I might be one of the only people in the country watching that tonight instead of the SEC circle jerk. Lol

Come on.... the dawgz could use your support.
