Chances are UCF could not have beat either one of them.
Same answer. We'll never know for sure. Right?

Blankenship was impressive. it would have been a shorter game if Bama's kicker had performed as well.

They beat Auburn who beat both, Alabama, and Georgia.
I take my hat off the Rookie and Hurts. The Rookie for his great play making. And, Hurts for not pouting on the sideline, and instead cheering his team along every minute of that second half. Sign of a real stand up guy.
I also applaud Saban for adjusting. Stubborn coaches would never have done that.
On the flipside, I have to say GA's coaches failed to adjust to the new situation. It seemed to me, from what I saw of the game, that they had all the answers for Jalen. But, from what I can tell by reading this morning, they were clueless on what to do with the kid from Hawaii. That is simply unacceptable.

College football:
Tell me another sport where a team can go undefeated and not compete in the playoffs.

Agreed. However, while I really do not want to take anything away from UCF's performance in beating Auburn, many football fans, especially connected to UCF are putting too much into it. They did not beat an Auburn at full strength, or an inspired Auburn. Nor did Auburn beat a full strength Alabama. Bama had a devastated defense at the time. Still Auburn was the only team to beat both Auburn and Georgia who were both otherwise undefeated at the time, and had to watch them play for the championship. Auburn was not exactly up for a bowl game that was more an exhibition game then anything else. It is still very impressive that UCF beat an SEC team like Auburn, however it does not make them the King of the Hill. By the time the championship came around, Georgia was at full strength and Alabama had recovered most of their injured defensive backs. I would not have bet on UCF beating either one of them.
I very much want to see at least an 8 game playoff, if not a 16. Here's why.
8-game: To with a NCG, a team has to beat 3 top 10 teams in a row.
16-game: To win a title a team has to beat 4 top 15 teams in a row.
Now that truly does a champion make.
8 would probably be good enough. or maybe go top 10 with 1& 2 getting byesYou will probably get your wish, however I don't expect it will happen rapidly. And it's very doubtful that it will ever go to a 16 team playoff.

Welcome Kevin Sumlin, the new head coach of the University of Arizona.
I don't know of any conservative schools that play football
Bye bye Rich Rod. Hello, K Sum.
The Pac-12 seems to have some legitimacy now with Sumlin, Herm Edwards and Chip Kelly in that conference.
I am unsure why Clayton Helton is the coach of USC. I doubt he makes it another full season. IMO in over his head.

I wonder if they bring back Lane Kiffen
Niumatalolo turned down Arizona to stay at Navy.
Ken Niumatalolo’s decision to stay at Navy gives the Midshipmen another big win
Niumatalolo had been in the running to take over at Arizona, but keeping him in Annapolis is the best outcome for all involved.

I was talking to a friend of mine who works in the athletic department last night and he said Niumatalolo was never actually offered the job. He was interviewed (along with others) but the belief was he was used to get some boosters to open up their wallets a little more to get Sumlin who was the guy the whole time.
Of course they say that now. No one ever says the hire was the second choice. I'll take Feinstein's word for it.
" . . . Arizona was different. Money might have been a factor — Niumatalolo probably would have been able to command north of $3 million a year, considerably more than the $2 million Navy is reportedly paying him. Beyond that, though, was the sense that there wasn’t much left to accomplish at Navy. Under Niumatalolo, Navy has won the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy five times, has gone to nine bowls in 10 seasons and, even after heartbreaking losses the past two seasons, is 8-2 against Army.
When Niumatalolo dropped off the radar Thursday and Friday and word came out of Arizona that he had been offered the job there, many at Navy believed this was the time he was going to pull the trigger and leave.
Gladchuk didn’t know what to believe. That’s why he went to see his coach late Saturday after Niumatalolo had returned to campus and met with his staff to discuss the recruits on campus for the weekend.
“We talked for about an hour,” Gladchuk said. “I was happy he didn’t simply announce to me he was leaving. We talked about how much he loved this place, how right he was for this place. Then I brought something else up — the Hall of Fame. I honestly believe, if Kenny stays here until the end of [his] career, he’s going to be in the Hall of Fame. You look at his record, at who he is and the person he is, I think it will happen — should happen. If he goes to Arizona, he’d win because he’s a great coach. But let’s face it: Winning there isn’t as special as winning here.”
Whether Gladchuk’s talk swung Niumatalolo or the coach simply needed confirmation that he was making the right decision is hard to know, but Gladchuk got the call he wanted Sunday morning. By noon, word had spread that Niumatalolo — or “Coach Ken,” as he is known on the Yard — was staying put. . . ."
