I've lived in Ontario (not too far from Ottawa) and BC... and well... I wish Canadians would pay a little more attention to their history and realize what a PoS Pierre Trudeau was... and they just elected more of the same.
Actually, they did well having Harper running the show for so long... but it would have been nice to see the Libs stay as a power no bigger than their Socialist brethren, the NDP.
I am Canadian.
Stephen Harper at the beginning did a good job of managing the nation's finances. However, he never really did bring the country together and was never a 'good leader'. In the end, he became an American Conservative who re-started the war on drugs, who used American lawmaking techniques in omnibus bills to change the nature of the country. He cut back spending even after we had a solid surplus for several years [that surplus was handed to him by the Liberals] and it hurt a lot of people.
He alienated our native population refusing to strike an investigation into thousands of native women who have gone missing. He ruled with a hard hand, allowed the RCMP to cover up rape and systemic sexual abuse within it ranks. Harper deliberately started a fight with the marijuana industry by trying to license only his friends as producers, and spent millions unnecessarily fighting it in court and loosing.
Harper rolled back and made toothless various organizations about women's rights, status of natives and he went to war against the single most successful addiction fighting tool, the Insight, the free injection site...and again lost in the Supreme court. He decided it would be a cool thing to strip people of their citizenship.....illegal under our international obligations and completely contrary to Canada's historical role of asylum for those who deserve. The feeling across the nation is that we should strip Harper of HIS citizenship.
None of that is Canadian.
Harper has become a swear word, members of the Conservative Party of Canada are keeping silent, they don't want to be spit on.
So, thank you for your outside advice, but please get this into your head: Canadians are different than Americans AND WE LIKE IT THAT WAY.
Now, your opinion of Trudeau as a piece of **** you might want to call back. He was a very strong personality, and yes unpopular at times, but brought more reforms to this country than and seven previous prime ministers. And what you don't know, he keep the country together without war...something the US could not do. He also fostered in the most amazing constitution and world recognized Charter of Rights and Freedoms.
So be careful about expressing your UNIFORMED opinions.
BTW, I agree, Canadians should pay more attention to the world. The comment comes from all the little American wannabes we have who are cowering in fear of Syrian refugees. He's being more kind to them than I. I say if you want a government like America, go to America and shut the **** up.
