What items will you stock up on?

I never understood why people stock up with bottled water.
How many gallons does your water heater hold?

I have a 50 gallon and 30 gallon, and there is a year around creek near by.

I don’t stock bottled water. Food, ammo, batteries, vodka, I got plenty. (I don’t drink by the way, do you know what an alcoholic will trade for vodka?)

I have a gravity-operated water filter that uses a stone element and can filter pond water. Bought it back in 1999 for Y2K, so I can produce one gallon of fresh drinking water from any source, every 24 hrs. I still have some bottled water for convenience during Hurricane outages. FL is nice and sunny but is also storm prone.

If your area gets quarantined, what items will you stock up on?

Shoppers reported stocking up on medications, cleaning supplies, hand sanitizers, face masks, surgical gloves, and pantry staples. Social media was filled with photos of shelves emptied of flats of bottled water.

Pantry items and toilet paper I get but not bottled water. Also, I have some (limited) antibiotics on hand for a secondary bacterial infection in the lungs.

Coronavirus fears empty store shelves of toilet paper, bottled water, masks as shoppers stock up

I love to cook. I wouldn't do this because of the quarantine though, I cook like this all the time.
I have enough food prepared and frozen at least for a month.
Includes homemade soups, sauces, soups, pot pies, stews, desserts.

My pantry is loaded with fruits and jams I've canned from our orchard.
We're big Costco shoppers and buy a lot in bulk, and we shop online for our cat from chewy.com.

We are prepared.

I have a tankless water heater, so unlimited.
We filter with our fridge.
Agree, bottled water is probably a waste of money for people like us.

I have a health plan that gives me at least 60 days of meds.
Hubby might have to sign up with mail delivery to get more if we were to be quarantined.

I've got something now, and thanks to the ambiguity of the coronavirus and limited testing, I'll probably never know if I have coronavirus or run-of-the-mill flu. Unless I die. In which case...yeah...I had the coronavirus.

Anyway, to answer the question...

1)orange juice with lots of garlic extract
2)lots of soup
3)gatorade
4)ibuprofen
5)cough drops

Good list, lol.

I don't see any draconian mass quarantines in the US, because without massive testing there's no way to know who has a cold and who has covid-19 until someone is in ICU fighting respiratory/pulmonary failure. Once testing begins nationwide in earnest, we may be shocked by the number of positive tests, or we may be happily relieved by how few test positive.

I just stocked up on frozen meats, fries and frozen meals like beef tips, meatballs with marinara. I also buy a lot of Progresso soups and am about to make a big pot of home beef vegetable with a tomato base. It's got beef, sausage, beans, veggie mix and is a little spicey with pepper and curry.

If you lived with well water and a tankless water heater, you'd have bottled water squirreled all over the house. No electricity, no water; a cow steps on a pvc pipe, no water. Rural life sucks. :)

I know, right...lol

And they keep asking why we need Ar-15's and 10,000 rounds of ammunitiin. :lamo

I don't need to stock up, I have cases of ammo. Although I am low on .270s and .35 rems...

You have everything your body needs with your beef vegetable soup. Sounds yummy.

Fava beans and Chianti wine.

;)

Beer!

The usual zombie apocalypse planning... Canned foods, MREs, flashlights, shotgun shells, AK-47 mags, and explosives.

(This fear mongering is getting absurd.)[/QUOTE

FEAR MONGERING : It’s contagious!

I wish I had learned to can.
I use to love to cook BIG but not so much anymore. Some things freeze well but not everything. I got one of those Instant pots. I hope to try it out this week. The recipes look really yummy and the meal is ready in no time. While it makes a lot of anything, I am not so much interested in freezing it but rather sharing it with some elderly people in their 80's that often live off of microwaved TV dinners and with family members especially if they are dealing with an illness. I hope I have good luck with it because I can't think of anything better than to produce a tasty meal in a short period time versus babysitting it the entire day.

I can not say at this particular time I am stocked up on all items but this is the time of year where inventory is taken, the old gets used up and the freezer and pantry are replenished.

There's a big difference in what you stock up on if you think the govt/community infrastructure will fail or not. (Water, electricity, food deliveries)

Right now, I am going with plan A, infrastructure will hold up.

So I am not particularly worried about water, altho I have horses to water. But I live very close to a lake, have full rain barrels, and it will keep raining here for a few more months anyway. And I have water filtration devices.

I often work from home and am 100% capable of and allowed to do so.

I have 3 acres, fully fenced, so wont be stuck inside a house.

I stocked up on prepared canned goods. I picked stuff I can take camping and that I can donate to food programs later. Most are canned meals like beef ravioli (I LOVE Chef Boyardee beef ravioli from childhood and never let myself have it unless camping, lol), and lots of soups. I also got canned veggies and fruit which I am much less likely to eat voluntarily but are healthy enough to donate later.

A boxed Chardonnay I like (several!) and a few cases of beer...always good to have, can trade if necessary. Pedialyte for hydration if I do get ill. Lots of large Folgers ground coffee, powdered creamer, sweetener. Hey, cant be picky in a crisis!

Didnt bother with perishables but will keep shopping normally until it seems unwise to do so. In Plan A, I still have power and so then fridge/freezer.

Toilet paper, paper towels, dish and laundry soap, dog food, have plenty of hay in, medications all recently filled, already have a big stock of flu/cold relief meds for the winter. Have loads of 9mm FMJ practice ammo at least.

My version of an instapot has a canning setting. It isn't particularly hard to can but I have never done it using the pot. I pickle a lot more than I can and that is pretty easy peasie. Haven't killed anybody yet. I use a 60-40 vinegar water mix bring to boil with pickling spaces. (50-50 is minimum recommended) Throw in whatever until they are about half done, then jar with fluid mix, seal, and cook the rest of the way in the sealed jars and then let them cool overnight on the stove. I usually mix vinegar, using about 50% white to get to the minimum and then mix in extra rice, malt, or red wine vinegar.

hope that you're feeling better soon. i just got past the latest day care cold. these seemed to help :

at the very least, it made me feel like i was doing something and gave me an excuse to eat what is essentially candy.

Thanks. Coming down with something has thrown my wife's travel plans into uncertainty. She was going to visit her parents, and since they're well over fifty they would be particularly vulnerable to a coronavirus illness. But since we have no way of knowing if I have coronavirus or a simple cold she's doesn't know what to do, and frankly neither do I.

Men will pay the same for porn and that's way less trouble. You're not gonna be selling trophy wives.

Wasn't thinking in terms of paying for female accompaniment.

Because, when it comes down to it, you’re criminals at heart?

I mean.. that’s basically what you are declaring.

What I'm declaring, is that we (Conservatives) understand that there will be people that will come steal our stores in an SHTF scenario and we need to be well armed to try and prevent that. Most likely, we'll be defending from the average Leftist (some Conservatives too) that put all their hope in the government to keep them alive. It will be out of desperation. I'm not going to childishly accuse other forum members of being "criminals at heart". But, it will happen. The Leftists are going to be the first to starve to death, or be murdered by marauders, or be killed in an act of self defense because desperation forced them to jump off the cliff.

The anti-Trumpers and Leftists are trying to create a panic in a ploy to get Trump voted out. Some, though, really believe there's an SHTF scenario on the horizon and are worried. They're right to be worried because none of them will survive.

As for me and my house, we'll share.
