Trump's budget proves GOP deficit hawks are a dying breed

That's factored in...

Not by you it hasn't as Trump has NEVER had a trillion dollar deficit and in fact will have three straight months this year with a surplus. You have no idea what you are talking about. Obama had 4 trillion dollar deficits, where was your outrage?

"Trump's budget proves GOP deficit hawks are a dying breed "

Nah. They haven't gone anywhere. Just wait until the next Democrat is in the Whitehouse. Remember, all this is not really about the deficit. It's about a political tool and talking point. They will use it only when they need it. They just don't need it right now.

LOL, Trump has been in office two years, Obama 8

Under Obama, there was NEGATIVE rate of illegal immigrants in this country: more were leaving than coming in.

What a meaningless stat since Trump has been in office 2 years Have you radicals nominated Obama for Sainthood yet? Worst recovery in U.S. history but you liked him and that is all that matters

Same sorry argument, which was already shown to be a fallacy.

You have done no such thing as posting a discredited cut and paste chart out of context doesn't prove anything. Civics dispels your opinions and your posts

We were talking about immigration. Why are you trying to change the topic now? There are far more asylum seekers and illegal immigrants under Trump than there ever were under Obama. Can we agree on that?

It wasn't you that brought up Obama and him sending back more than the country took in? Maybe these people now realize what a great economy we have under Trump thus are trying to get here to take advantage of that? Speaks volumes about the worst recovery in U.S. history from a major recession, even the illegals aren't trying to get in. What a great liberal economic policy!

Illegals are being put out in parking lots because the CBP doesn't have the room to house them, and you crow about a VANITY wall. The Democrats are so full of **** and out of touch, they need to be removed from the political process.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe Trumps Tough talk is spurring more to try to get here now instead of after the wall is built? Of course you haven't.....

Have you ever thought that Pelosi's talk is spurring more to come? Of course you haven't....

People seeking asylum are not “illegals.” I figured such an expert in immigration law would know that.

Oh, and here’s a DP staff member arguing for one-party rule.

1 Fear is the greatest motivator for humans
2 How many people in Central America have even heard of Pelosi?

th

Trump has again demanded yet another $8.6 billion for his vanity wall.

You call American border security barriers "Trump's wall." Morons think Americans are opposed to border barriers and welcome invasions from illegals from all over earth without borders to stop them. The latest report from border control agents in the field is that they have caught and detained tens of thousands of foreign nationals from 50 different nations around the world illegally crossing our borders, and that number is dwarfed by the number of those who don't get caught. Border security is a serious concern for all Americans except for those Americans whose primary allegiance is to the increasingly treasonous democrat party and not the USA.

Obama deported more illegal immigrants than Trump.

Obama did it with class. Trump operates off HATE.

LOL, what exactly do you call what you are doing on every thread?? Trump operates on responding to those who attack him, the first GOP President to do that and that drives people like you crazy. Hatred is driven by today's Democratic Party as the actual results shown don't reflect hatred on anything other than radical liberalism

People seeking asylum are not “illegals.” I figured such an expert in immigration law would know that.

As long as the people in question respect the protocol for demanding asylum, they can enter legally if their demand is approved. Regardless, there is a major problem with US immigration policies. People have been flocking to the US borders for decades, but they seem to mostly enter illegally. I don't know the specifics of why exactly the immigration process is so troublesome in the US, but I am quite aware of a good reason why nothing gets done about it. The topic has become a politicized minefield: people start using specific words as badges of loyalty and stop listening as soon as someone utters the wrong type of words. If you talk about border control, you must be a victim of your own ethnocentricism in the best case or an outright racist in the worst of cases. And if you fear about that legislation might be manipulated to effectively discriminate against certain cultural groups, you have to be a lunatic who doesn't see the problems cultural diversity can create. This is exactly how you talk about nothing, miss out on what others who are different from you might see and know, and ultimately leave a mess unsolved.

Begin with a presumption of innocence and commit to holding on to it for longer than you normally would. Democrats are not out there planning to destroy America by flooding it with culturally incompatible foreigners, just as Republicans aren't trying to cleanse the ethnic composition of the American society from foreign influences with racist and xenophobic policies masquerading under the guise of security concerns. Most of these people are well intended and merely have different concerns for the simple reason they weight different aspect of a situation differently. Jonathan Haidt and his team have identified roughly 6 such aspects and studied how political opinions can be tied to their influence on choices. Conservatives tend to diffuse their concerns more evenly than liberals who are, as the stereotype would have it, respond more to feelings of empathy. In other words, how a migrant's response to a refusal or problems to migrate into the US might be a more salient aspect of the problems to liberals than to conservatives. Moreover, Jordan Peterson has often mentioned how both groups differ across their personality traits, with conservatives generally being more conscientious and, liberals, generally score higher in openness to new ideas. In other words, borders (physical, legal and conceptual) are much more important to conservatives than liberals. These two facts might be plotting against any effort to solve the immigration issue. To a liberal, conservatives might appear cold or even callous because they will not emphasize empathy as much as liberals generally do. It is also the case that discourses which invoke notions that are close to ideas like contamination will resonate more on the right than the left because it is antithetic to orderliness (which conscientious people prefer). The images will always make it clear it's about avoiding "mixing": contamination, invasion, poisoning, spoiling, rotting, diluting, etc. If you read this from the perspective of someone from the left while being ignorant of how most people on the right will read some of those words, you can easily get the impression "they" really are just a bunch of racists even if it is highly unlikely that many of them are racists.

As for the current thread that concerned deficits and not immigration policy, people who neither served in a public office nor talk with former public officials might overestimate the ease of getting some change in motion in a large bureaucratic environment. Whether it is the government or a large business, it is not easy.

A former professor of mine once held the office of Ministre des Finances in a Canadian province. He was elected and served in various positions over the course of about a decade. He told me that his most fierce opposition and the thorniest problems he encountered didn't arise from the opposition in the Assemblé. It came from bureaucrats who couldn't seem to be able to piece together answers, even when the orders came from the Premier himself.

It has something to do with the difficulty of changing how a large system functions. I talked about implementing research using data from a commercial bank to the former Trésorier of a large Canadian bank. You wouldn't believe how much of mess this actually is in practice and we're talking about one project on fraud detection, for example, not about changing the culture in the company.

So, one reason you shouldn't expect miracles from anyone in the White House is that they're operating a system that has a large amount of inertia. It is mind-bogglingly complicated to intervene in just the right ways, at the right moment and in the right place to get the result you wanted.
