Certainly 54% thinking Trump will win again reflects a democratic enthusiasm problem in an election where they seem intent to rely on turnout instead of broadening the base, or at least an enthusiasm problem for their current front runners. Why they are intent so far on making this about helping illegals when that is the one issue Trump wins on is beyond me. They really need a late-entry moderate to come along if they are going to have any hope.

Can you give some examples of how Democrats are alienate left leaning groups like Union workers? From where I sit, Trump made a slew of promises to workers and double crossed them. He promised to make health care better, cheaper, etc., but his 2017 plan made it worse and more expensive. Thank goodness McCain voted no and killed it.

He promised coal workers a return of high paying jobs but coal mines are going bankrupt. Manufacturing also isn’t returning. Moreover, his philosophy is anti union and favors corporations not workers. His tariffs are punishing farmers and raising prices to consumers. (Winning?)

Meanwhile, Democrats are promising improvements on Obamacare, pro worker policies, passing trade deals that defend against Chinese trade abuses, etc. Moreover, they plan to do something about gun violence.

Pointing out these facts should separate Trump from his base. If it doesn’t, it’s because they care more about pissing off liberals than voting their self interest. His minority base has alway been steady at ~30ish percent. Those aren’t the people that will make the difference in 2020.

It's true that at this point in their presidency Obama and Trump had/have the same approval. The difference is that Obama's rose entering the 2012 election, perhaps because the economy was improving. Trump is entering 2020 with a weakening economy and appearing more and more unhinged.
