The 2018 Major Leage Baseball Thread

Yeah the Orioles are terrible with evaluating pitching talent, but other positions they do get right once in a while. Not re-signing Wieters was a great move. That guy is awful. Look for him soon at your nearest minor league ballpark!

I think he'll bounce back.

Maybe, but a bounce back for Wieters means he will bat .235 with 20 homers vs. .225 with 13 homers. Still not very good, but a bit better.

Grandal is not a 2nd string catcher, though he is for LAD, in their doghouse. He needs a change of scenery, hopefully to the White Sox, though they did sign W. Castillio.

I don't have a feel on the AL yet, the junior circuit. I do like SL and SF though, with potential from the NYM .

Kind of funny when I listen to sports talk radio here in NY. WFAN and the Mets are feuding big time. None of the Mets brass or players will go on FAN anymore. And even though many of the radio hosts on WFAN are Mets fans they have been BRUTAL when discussing the Mets. I can tell there's a edict from the top to blast the Mets any chance they can get. They could be talking about the weather on Mars and they'll a shot at the Mets. No big deal, just childish tactics and nonsense.

Here's what's funny, they're biggest dig against the Mets is they haven't done anything this off-season to improve the team. But the thing is though with all the talk of 'collusion' the Mets have been signing FA's. They just signed Todd Frazier. They've signed Gonzalez .. Bruce.

Nothing earth-shattering. But they are signing people. Something that can't be said about almost any other MLB team yet.

The Yankees acquire Russell Wilson from the Texas Rangers.

He get's a chance to play for a winner, even if it is Spring Training.

I would not be suprised if Russell Wilson gives up football and becomes a full time baseball player like Tebow.

He's underpaid in Seattle and the Seahawks don't care about his safety when they allowed him to go in a game without going through concussion protocol.

From the link in #412:

But the 6-foot-5 Darvish only managed four outs in losing Game 7 to the Astros, becoming the second pitcher in World Series history with less than two innings pitched in two starts.
In 31 combined starts last season, he was 10-12 with a 3.86 ERA.
Darvish signed with Texas before the 2012 season and missed all of 2015 after elbow surgery. He has a career record of 56-42 with a 3.42 ERA and 1,021 strikeouts.

Let’s just say I’m glad the Cubs have Theo as a GM instead of you.

Wow.

With the Darvish signing, the Cubs have pretty much their entire starting staff, as well as almost all of the bullpen, and every starting position player under contract for the next three years. They lose some in 4, and they’re going to be either decimated or have a ridiculous payroll in 2022.

Darvish can opt out after two years, but will have to have two Cy Young quality seasons for that to happen. Heyward can opt out too, but he’s more of an albatross than anything.

This will be the team that they have been building to- hopefully the next three years bring World Series rings to the North side.

The Cubs? 25-man roster is pretty well set for 2018... and 2019, too - Bleed Cubbie Blue

Ted Williams vs. Bob Feller in 1946. This is the game where Lou Boudreau came up with ‘The Shift’ to shut down Williams. Note the defensive alignment!

I didn’t realize this was that old of a strategy.

It was, but it was never utilized as much as it is today.

I'm not sure when everyone started using the shift, but I think it was less then 10 years ago

Against certain Leftie batters it's been going on for longer than 10 years.

But yeah nowadays they even put a shift on against some righties, which was unheard of 10 years ago.
