Socialism din't work in Sweden and it won't work here.

Countries with the best quality of life

Sweden #2

Another person with no idea what socialism is, they just throw it out and look stupid
Most of Sweden's quality of life was established BEFORE they turned socialist and they're rolling back several socialist initiatives.

Democratic socialism is working splendidly in the Scandinavian countries.

So much so, they didn't even make the top 10 GDP country(LOL)

But, I guess they can enjoy a glass of wine and Fish & chips out on the wharf

Uh....you know they are smaller than the US....right?

You should send those socialist social security checks back :)

That's my personal reward from Uncle Sucker for having "contributed" to support that form of socialism for 40+ years and being lucky enough to live this long. Besides, it let's me better price compete with my competition using illegal immigrant labor.

Nah, just smarter.

:lamo
If you have to tell people how smart you are...or how affluent you are...you're either: (1) NEITHER, or (2) just a tad bit insecure about both.

You don't hate Socialism. You just think you do, because you don't understand it.

Look, you're clearly someone who doesn't understand what Socialism means, or what it looks like. But, this is America and you're entitled to cling to whatever ignornant ideology you chooose.

Typical lefty, spouting that when someone doesn't buy into your argument, it is just because they don't understand it. Never even occurs to you that they DO understand it. And yet you never consider the possibility that it is YOU who do not understand. It's called arrogance.

As I've brilliantly and famous stated on here many times, the familiar death spiral goes something like.

Because of capitalism , wealth gets created. Then Democrats pounce and promise to redistribute form the wealth creators to the takers.

The foundations for a successful society become eroded.
The new generation raised in socialism has no incentives to work.

It's happening before our eyes in California.

If we elect a Democrats it will happen nationally .Socialism Didn’t Work In Sweden, And It Won’t Work In America

"...weden stood as the world’s fourth wealthiest country nearly five decades ago. Its taxes were lower than most western countries, including the United States. The economy was deregulated, and public spending was hardly above 10 percent gross domestic product (GDP).

But Sweden was soon teetering on the brink of collapse from its experiment with socialism."

Free markets and small government made Sweden rich,” said Swedish economist and Cato Institute fellow Johan Norberg. “The experiment with socialism crashed us.”

Fascism didn't work in Germany either. What's your point?

All modern developed economies of the world today have some kind of hybrid mixed economy. It's a delicate dynamic balance that must always be reexamined and revisited.

The Soviets gave up on pure communism by the 1980s. But the US gave up on pure free markets in the late 19th century/early 20th century, the gilded age- where the ever-increasing free market demand for exploitation of child labor was becoming unacceptable, and monopolies were forming, and the increasing disparities between the extremes of wealth and poverty were proving to be socially/economically unsustainable.

People who think pure free market capitalism works are as ignorant of history as those who still advocate for Soviet style communism. Both systems have been tried extensively and have proven to be failed experiments. Modern economies are not all some kind of hybrid system because their economists are stupid.

The gilded age was the single greatest period of human advancement in history. Contrary to what you might’ve read the FICTIONAL world of Dickens novels in the US and UK during the era of industrialization wages increased year after year, inflation was low, life expectancy rapidly increased, literacy increased, education, the arts, and the sciences exploded, people could afford consumer goods for the first time and millions were liberated from the toil of subsistence farming.

It was a great time to be alive

LOL, that's silly. Perhaps you are speaking for him, but he's a big boy (I presume), let him speak.

That said, it's clear, by reading some of the remarks that come from some people here, that they don't understand it. But, in typical reactionary righty fashion, it was easier for you to pull the victim card than to engage in substantive dialogue.

There's nothing too arrogant about that. Most of you rightwingers have imbibed so much fake-news over the last 25 years that your political beliefs have become full-fledged hardened delusions. And discussions about Socialism are among those that best illustrate that scientifically documented fact.

But hey, if you think that's arrogance...I'm ok with that, too.

That’s why leftists fail. They don’t believe in themselves and therefore only big gov’t socialism can solve all their woes. They are told repeatedly how it’s impossible, they can’t do it, life is hard, which robs them of the ability to realize they have more potential than they think.

Fail? Democratic socialism is a huge success in scandanavia

"...greatest period of human advancement..."???

Just a breath-takingly ignorant "old white guy" perspective. But the REALITY is that almost every single one of those factors was improved upon, drastically, during the 20th century, especially in the post-WWII era of the New Deal. From wages...to life expectancy...to industrialization...to education and literacy...to science, medicine and technology.

Forget the reality that life in America was a just hard scabbled free-for-all (all white men, that is) during the Gilded Age (i.e post Civil War to the beginning of the 20th century). And that was just for white men. For everyone else (i.e. African-Americans, Native Americans, women, etc.), the Gilded Age was down right brutal.

What the hell were you thinking? Geez...

It was a great time to be alive

Stupid comment.

Unless you're 120+ years old...how would you know? Pick up a history text.

Not exactly. It originated as a matter of national defense.

Thank the MIC for that.

And have you ever wondered why there is an interstate on Hawaii?

And the military is a socialist program also.

LOL, that's why the ideology of old white guys is dying off along with them.

They cloak their grievances in mythology and deny (if not run away screaming from) objective FACTS, because that's their only defense.

The issue is not "Socialism vs Capitalism". And it never has been.

The issue is how best to mix the two within our already, decided MIXED economy.

But that's a discussion that requires nuance and intellectual honesty...which leaves people like you with nothing to say.

Smart countries with intellectual capital and good economic policies (Japan, UK, Sweden, etc...).

Massachussetts and California don't have oil. They are doing better than TX with all its oil.

We DO have oil in California.
In fact, we even have drilling and pumping rigs inside the city limits of Los Angeles itself.
You wouldn't know them to see them but they're there.

4 Oil Wells In Plain Sight

And it's a good thing that we DO pump the oil and the natgas because when we DON'T, disasters happen, like the massive explosion and fire that occurred at the Ross Dress for Less store near the Farmer's Market back in 1985.
Scooping that story ahead of all the local TV stations is what helped start my part time freelance news stringer career.
Some of my footage is seen here in this archive:

Oil Well Leaking Methane Gas Causes "Ross Dress for Less" Explosion

It doesn't change the fact that you're right about the petroleum driven Boom-Bust economic cycles in Texas, which are legend.

Yep, no bias at all in that conservative piece! Got anything neutral?
