So much for overturning Roe v Wade and saving innocent pre-born babies.

This popped up on the NPR screen just a few minutes ago: the abortion rate has increased 10% since Roe was overturned.
So.... the busy little tin pot theocrats have managed to turn a descending trend in US abortions into a 10% increase in 3 years.

Here's the really sad part. Had they spent the billions it took to get Roe overturned on expanding contraceptive clinics that provided all women with access to highly effective contraceptives that women not men controlled they could have reduced the abortion rate by 30% to 40 % in the first year.

Ever wonder why they spent money on banning and not providing?

Same thing happened in Romania decades ago. Women will find a way to get their necessary abortions.

Maybe rather than risk seeing how things were going and not being able to get an abortion later, they decided they better get one while the could, play it safe.

Billions? How exactly did overturning Roe cost billions?

The political campaign to overturn Roe has been going on for nearly 50 years. That takes a lot of cabbage.
Seems like both sides spent billions for and against it.

In fact, one could argue that seeing as how abortions have increased, the billions spent defending Roe were wasted and could have been put to better use. It was a hill the left did not need to die on.

Sounds over-turning Roe is working exactly as planned - states taking charge - creating their own abortion laws. More to come.

They did. anti-abortion advocates spent their billions on passing restrictive laws, stacking the Supreme Court (who do you think paid for Thomas' and other's vacations and club memberships?) misinformation about women and abortion. Most pro-choice advocates spent their billions on supporting clinics, honest sex ed, family counseling and support for those who couldn't pay for abortions. .......... oh and contraceptive programs, you know to prevent unwanted pregnancies and reduce abortions.
In fact, one could argue that seeing as how abortions have increased, the billions spent defending Roe were wasted and could have been put to better use.
What better use is there than supporting women at a crisis point in their lives?
It was a hill the left did not need to die on.
And you think the left is dead because Roe was overturned and the religious right is alive and well because Trump is running for president? I guess we'll see who is alive in November, won't we.

I'm pretty sure this is not working as planned. I believe the right wing Christian anti-abortion advocates said abortion would go down once it was banned.

And now women on the fence, afraid they wont be able to get one in a month or so, before they can work things out...or will be denied the medical care they might need if things go wrong...are deciding to place it safe.

Trouble is that the church does not support contraceptives

As far as I know, nobody wants the number of abortions to increase.

In the interest of accuracy: The pro-choice movement spends more than the anti-abortion movement on advocating for their cause.

From Open Secrets:
"Abortion rights groups spend more on federal lobbying than anti-abortion rights groups, though the spending gap between the two factions is narrowing.

Abortion rights groups also contribute more money to candidates. During the 2020 election cycle, abortion rights groups gave $5.1 million to federal candidates compared to $2 million in contributions from anti-abortion rights groups.

Federal lawmakers consistently received more contributions from abortion rights groups than anti-abortion groups in recent election cycles, according to OpenSecrets data.

The political spending strategies of abortion rights and anti-abortion rights groups differed significantly,

Many abortion rights advocates don’t just advocate for abortion rights. The fight for intersectional reproductive rights extends beyond the divisive issue, including access to other reproductive health services, childcare and even voting rights. But the range of issues dilutes the power of abortion rights lobbying and outside spending, experts told OpenSecrets, as top-spending abortion rights groups like Planned Parenthood and EMILY’s List are not singularly focused in the way many anti-abortion rights groups are.

....... the anti-abortion rights movement has had an almost universal focus on the singular issue since 1973. The rhetoric surrounding the anti-abortion rights movement is so dramatic and stigmatizing that it proves difficult to respond to it or speak about it. “It is almost like the original disinformation campaign,” Ely told OpenSecrets.

Women’s bodily autonomy is a hill that democrats - and ANY person that respects women - will continue to stand on and defend.

And will VOTE based on.

There is no “better use” of a vote than using it against every.single.politician that believes women don’t have the fundamental right to determine what happens inside their own body.

See you at the ballot box.

Interesting. So MORE women were allowed to "exercise reproductive freedom" after Roe was overturned? Was that your prediction, @weaver2?

That sounds more like history repeating itself.

?? Since Roe, what billion$ have the left spent on defending it?

Same as the money spent overturning it.

Political campaigns, getting candidates elected, that sort of stuff.

50 years of political donations, legal fees, and advertising.
All for naught seeing as Roe was overturned anyway.

In fact, as the OP points out, since Roe was overturned abortions have increased. It does raise the question whether that money could have been put to better use.

The only thing overturning Roe did was put the lives of women in jeopardy.

Overturning Roe was never going to stop abortions from happening.

Congratulation zealots - you’ve simply endangered women with your desire to control them.

Take a bow.

See you at the ballot box.

I'm old enough to remember the time before Roe v. Wade, when the abortion ban most victimized those without financial means. Back then, the wealthy never had any problem getting safe abortions. They were, in fact, commonplace. There was always the notorious "ski trip to Switzerland" where the wealthy woman, always White, would return home refreshed, rested, lightly tanned, and perhaps a few pounds lighter.

Roe v. Wade was a great equalizer in an inherently racist and unfair environment. Overturning Roe was perhaps among the greatest single events of class and race warfare in several decades. Is it any wonder that Republicans and "conservatives" have fought for it?

I'm referring to the funds spent to overturn it.
