Portrait of Melania Trump

I do agree that the lighting, and the background in general, isn't very good.
She is obviously a beautiful woman and isn't going to look bad regardless of what you do but they could have done better. The background is a bit distracting.
Not that I'm an expert.. particularly on portraits.. I don't do photography professionally but did consider photography as a profession in college so had several classes and did photography for college newspaper.

Well, at the very least they chose against the "oiled down softcore lesbian porn" look this time.

That's a plus.

Softcore lesbian porn? I don't know what you are referring to.

Wow, I'm starting to appreciate just how much of a train wreck this composition is. If you don't have that crap in the background then all you can focus on is the awkward posture. You literally need a loud and stupid background just to distract you from the pose.

Yikes.

Her face looks weird. Feral. It's her eyes. They have an odd angle.

And I would say she is likely quite comfortable in front of the lense. To me, this looks more like...she told the shooter what she wanted, and he tried his best to comply.

Her face looks feral. Ok.....

I think she appears cold when she doesn't smile. I much prefer a pic with this smile:

I do this for a living, and my personal feeling is that the portrait "needed more time to cook." What Melania is giving off here is a very familiar kind of stiffness and discomfort that comes with having just started the photography process. A really good photo shoot goes on for at least three hours, and only is it near the end that the subject starts to relax around the photographer and come across as more natural. It feels to me like the photographer maybe had a half hour with her.
On a more personal aesthetic level, I'm not a big fan of the "body growing out of the middle of the canvas" compositional method.

I think it is a striking portrait, she is a beautiful woman.

I do find the background a bit distracting.

I have always thought she was an odd looking person too.

It's a portrait, folks.

I wouldn't say feral, but weird / bad proportion. It's as if she were (and in mho was) a woman blessed with great looks, who chose to listen to people who told her to modify those looks until they looked almost tortured. Maybe Melaia feels that way, but even her pre-Trump stuff has the same feel. I don't personally have anything against her. Love to see some pics from before any surgery or "posing" classes.

look at the size of that rock

and melania looks pretty good, too

don't see a thing wrong this photo; or the subject

obvious the donald wasn't around. she's not scowling

I think your comments are full of hooooweee. She looks absolutely lovely. Her dress is exquisite. And by all means is the best looking First Lady ever.

She has been low profile the first 10 weeks but has shown up for all important affairs. And she is blowing away the fashion experts everytime she appears. Remember all the fashion experts that said they would never design an outfit for Melania? Well it looks like all that did now have egg on their faces.

Melania takes her son Barron to school everyday. Yes that invoylves secret service detail but it also involves her. She and Barron will be moving into the WH in June.

She is a beautiful woman and a loving mother but has not escaped cheap shot reporting of those on the left. Same with every damn member of the Trump family.

Keep it up....cause it is turning a lot of folks off. Cheers.

The one time I decide to actually delve into something I do for a living...

Oh, please. She's looks great and the pose isn't awkward at all. The background, however, I dislike.

"Feral"? Really?? *eyeroll*

If you fix the background, the problem with the pose becomes a lot more obvious.

I don't see a problem. I imagine if this was Hillary Clinton with the exact same pose, you wouldn't spend 2 seconds discussing how horrible it is.

You imagine very, very wrong. But whatever, think as you like.

I like it, It says Global CEO to me.

I am pretty sure it was intended to.

All but for that gaudy rock on her finger.

Feral would be more like her rolling on the furs in the Trump plane shots.

She looks fine.

I know. The problem is you're talking to one of the worst guys ever about visual anything.

I just thought I'd be the guy who laughs at the switch-off.

Standard B-grade modeling head shot. I get no warmth in the smile. In television we called it 'eye candy' filler

It's a branding shot not art, and who told you that the Trumps like classy stuff anyways?

Did you take a gander at that rock?

Her face looks catlike. Her eyes are angled up, even though she isn't smiling. Sorry, but that's a textbook feral look.

Wow!
OK, maybe this is just your personal preferences and is not colored by your opinion of the subject but this seems like an odd comment. But as to my personal opinion, I think that the subject has a right to his/her opinion and that is the only opinion that matters here. And, yes, even if fed funds was used.
