Patriotic Avatars

Leftists believe patriotism is racist.

What are you babbling about?

I've often stated that some of Canada's most patriotic citizens are our immigrants and refugees.

Colorado State. "America" and American" were two words listed in "language to avoid."
It's simply an attack on free speech.

Like Americans abroad eh?

How to pretend you are Canadian when you travel | CNN Travel

The site commissioned body language expert and author Mark Bowden of TruthPlane Inc. to demonstrate "faux Canadiana contortions that immediately betray a 'flag-jacker' -- be they American, English or other."

Here are a few tips he lays out.

The Maple-o-gy: A Canadian gesture showing submission by raising the shoulders in an apologetic motion, presenting oneself as nonthreatening.
The Canuck Crinkle: Showing the creases around your eyes when smiling -- indicates genuine friendliness.
The Toque Tilt: Slight tilting of the head when smiling, shows courtesy and congeniality.
Alternately, absence of the gesture can help you spot a fake Canadian.
Stars and Gripes Forever: Chin jutted out, face blank (or worse, frowning), causing the recipient of the message to assume something is wrong before the traveler has spoken.
American Psycho: A well-meaning but misplaced gesture in which arms are outstretched with palms down, above the heads of others, in an attempt to calm a situation ... a move that usually has the effect of escalating tensions.
The Polka-Loon: Overdoing friendly head tilt in a manner that implies you might need pharmaceutical assistance.

I was just reading posts today and seemed to notice something I never noticed before. Maybe it's true and maybe it isn't. But, for those who lean right or are clearly right, I see a lot of patriotic avatars and I don't remember any patriotic avatars off the top of my head from anyone who leans left or are clearly left. I wasn't talking about screen names but avatars. Does anyone who leans left or are clearly left have a patriotic avatar? Anyone? To me this is some form of subliminal acknowledgement from the left that they would rather complain about our country rather than be proud of it. Anyone care to try to prove me wrong?

What do you think my avatar is?

To me, waving or displaying a flag doesn't make anyone more or less patriotic than those not doing it.

"...Flag-waving is a fallacious argument or propaganda technique used to justify an action based on the undue connection to nationalism or patriotism or benefit for an idea, group or country. This fallacy appeals to emotion instead to logic of the audience aiming to manipulate them to win an argument.

Flag-waving - Wikipedia

Such a simple thing, but it sure works well on the simpletons.

Fake News spread by conservative rags! Those words were mentioned in the draft, but not put out in any official guidelines for CSU.

CSU: Current inclusive language guide does not discourage use of ‘America,’ ‘American’

The university said a draft version of an inclusive language guide meant for staff members was leaked. It has since been picked up by conservative media websites.

Oh, so kind of like wearing a flag pin? Remember when Obama didn't wear one, and it was a major scandal, it showed he was unpatriotic. Even though tons of white POTUS candidates hadn't worn one previously, and nobody cared?

Funny how lack of patriotism only applies to certain groups eh? Like four coloured women complaining about the country. Definitely un-patriotic. But Trump complaining about the country? Definitely patriotic.

Damn. SMH.

I know. Look at the last inauguration. Who was wearing a flag pin and who wasn't.

It's an advisory. When you get your info from alt-right sites that's the garbage you'll read. Here's the 'draft'.

The college has advised its staff to avoid using certain words or phrases that should be avoided, at least in certain contexts,
[...]
“The Americas encompass a lot more than the United States,” the school notes. “There is South America, Central America, Mexico, Canada, and the Caribbean just to name a few of 42 countries in total. That's why the word ‘americano’ in Spanish can refer to anything on the American continent. Yet, when we talk about ‘Americans’ in the United States, we're usually just referring to people from the United States. This erases other cultures and depicts the United States as the dominant American country.”

Why is that? I don't have any personal experience with the negative connotation it seems to have today. When was it coopted?

It represents a time when women were practically property and black people were property. A time when the average man had no say in his democracy. A beginning but a dark age. Not something to harken back too. America today much more exemplifies the principles of our nation. It's reactionary to fly old flags in anything but an historic purpose. To be reactionary is to be bigoted.

I didn't give attention to my avatar. Just picked one of the stock ones the forum offers.

The usual liberal assholes on here love it when foul mouthed Trump hating lesbians drape themselves in American flags while dropping F bombs.

But "ole Bubba" who never bothers anyone, but just happens to live south of the Mason Dixon line........................... is just another white nationalist if he flies one off the back of his GMC Sierra.

While you’re calling over half your countrymen “assholes” try to link that, because it’s NEVER HAPPENED .

To me, this thread is some form of idiocy.

Leftists believe patriotism is racist.

In some senses, it can be...let me explain.

Love of ones country is perfectly acceptable....until you get to the point where people are yearning for the old days. The problem with that is that almost every time you hear someone say that, they don't follow it up with a rejection of the policies that were completely and totally discriminatory that were in place in the old days.

I'm sure you can understand how someone may find it racist when you yearn for a time when minorities were still considered second class citizens.

Chances are that if Ole' Bubba flies an American flag off his truck, that isn't going to happen. On the other hand, if hes flying Ol' Dixie, you can bet on it.

That, however, is totally in Bubba's control.

Blade Runner isn't patriotic?

I am glad that you qualified, and used the word, LEFTISTS. Some Democrats are leftists, not all leftists are Democrats but the former group of Democrats does confuse patriotism with racism. It's like white people can't be uber patriotic without being labeled, white nationalists, nativists, or equally offensive terms.
Attaching a superlative prefix to “patriot” isn’t necessary. The word, alone, is sufficiently emphatic.

patriot noun
pa·tri·ot | \ ˈpā-trē-ət , -ˌät, chiefly British ˈpa-trē-ət\
Definition of patriot
: one who loves and supports his or her country
… praised him as a … motivated patriot who was fearless in the quest to preserve American security.

Not implying you, but extremists who do decidedly unpatriotic things are often the ones who proclaim their extraordinary patriotism.

I was too lazy to even do that. I guess I'm not a patriot.

Something else I've noticed here is that Conservatives tend to identify themselves as conservative, while more liberals identify as private or other. I have no idea why that it is, but I doubt your nextbto last sentence is the reason.

I've noticed that too. Liberals seem to be embarrassed as to their lean while those who lean right, for the most part, are proud to identify themselves properly. I think it has something to do with liberals thinking that they are mainstream while everyone else are deplorables. If they think they are mainstream I guess they feel no need to identify themselves. There is a level of arrogance on their side that they are mainstream as polls have shown that more Americans identify themselves as conservative than they do as liberal.

What do you consider as 'patriotic'? Flags, eagles, photos of Trump in a red hat?

Like you were proud to show your partisanship by telling us all that you would rather vote for a pedophile than a Democrat? Way to show America the dark side of being "moderate right".
