Nathan Phillips vet status in question

And I'm right. There is no such title as "recon ranger" in any branch of the service.

Green Beret isn't an official designation for anything but headgear, but Army Special Operations Soldiers are often referred to by that term. Marine Force Recon members are often referred to as "Recon Rangers."

He said he was a Vietnam era Marine. I can't find any quotes from him saying he served in-country.

You must not be looking in the right places. How about looking up Hillary's combat experience on the Bosnian tarmac if you cannot find the facts on Blumenthal?

Please provide them, I'll happily admit I was wrong.

You might research Kerry's war crimes if nothing else. He ordered his men to shoot innocent women and children, according to his testimony before Congress. I still wonder why he was not charged with a war crime. It was probably because they knew his story was filled with lies that could never be proven in court.

What the **** does Kerry have to do with any of this. We're discussing Phillips. Focus.

Wouldn't that be the icing on the cake? We'll see if this is confirmed, either way, but Phillips' age make the claim that he's a "Vietnam veteran" highly dubious.

Washington Times did a piece as well:

JFTR... apologies if this has already been mentioned.

"Phillips also described coming back to the U.S. as a veteran of the Vietnam era." “People called me a baby killer and a hippie girl spit on me.”

You do know who Kerry is, right? How old are you?

John Kerry, ran for president. As for your second question, retired from the Army, but thankfully not nearly as old as you are. So again, what the **** does Kerry have to do with this story?

Recon Ranger is not an official term but is a term unofficially and popularly used to apply to Marine Special Operation Reconnaissance members.

I didn’t know that; thanks! My issue with apdst is his propensity to use his service as a pass to criticize other people whether they served or not. I chose to let it go until he disrespected General McCaffery.

Trashing his service? I dont think so.

Trashing his purported claim he served in Vietnam? I think that is the focus.

However, you may want to read his own words that he initiated the confrontation.....there is always another side to each story.

He served during the Vietnam era, so he’s being truthful when he says he’s a Vietnam era vet.

And he didn’t “initiate” a confrontation, unless you consider beating a drum and chanting a “confrontation.”

Funny how you're never around when Liberals trash veterans.

Like I said I let your BS slide until you went to far. And, I haven’t seen a “liberal” use their service to lord it over other posters the way you used to.

Most of us who follow "Stolen Valor" have been tracking him for a while now. And his own quotes tend to suggest he is indeed lying about his past.

Coming from somebody who claims to be a "Combat marine", this is something I find highly puzzling and inconsistent. No Marine is going to refer to themselves as a "Recon Ranger". Rangers is a unit in the Army, the Marines have Force Recon. The two simply do not go together. And he is consistent in implying he is a combat vet, even if he does not use those exact words.

Then when his age and claims of work history are combined, there is simply no way he could have served in an Infantry role in Vietnam. And if he was in Marine Recon, there is no way he could have finished the training until 1977, 2 years after the fall of Saigon.

Myself, I am waiting until TAH finishes their investigation. I am curious to see what his DD-214 says, and the records of his duty postings.

"... Nathan Phillips was enlisted under the name Nathaniel Richard Stanard.

“Nathaniel Phillips enlisted in the Marine Corps Reserves on May 20th, 1972 and served until May 5th, 1976,” Don Shipley said as he read the DD-214 form.

“He served under just four years and was discharged at the exalted rank of ‘Private'” Shipley said sarcastically.

Shipley continued, “His entire military education was as a basic electrician in the Marine Corps — while he served in Lincoln, Nebraska, he served as a refer mach.”

Nathan Phillips went AWOL THREE TIMES while he was stationed at El Toro Marine Base in Southern California, according to his DD-214 form. ..."
