Longtime Donald Trump lawyer Michael Cohen will be pleading the Fifth Amendment in the Stormy Daniels case, the former adult movie star’s attorney revealed on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House on Thursday.

“What is your understanding of where things stand with Mr. Cohen, your adversary in this legal contest about Stormy Daniels’s NDA?” anchor Nicolle Wallace asked Michael Avenatti.

“Well, we’ve learned moments ago — within the last two hours — that Michael Cohen will be filing a motion tomorrow in our case, an emergency motion, to stay or temporarily stop our case and the grounds for that motion are going to be that it is his intention to plead the 5th amendment against self-incrimination if our case goes forward, in light of potential criminal jeopardy that he finds himself in,” Avenatti revealed. “So, this is a stunning development.”

“If Michael Cohen pleads the Fifth, then we want to turn to the next individual, which would be the president, to provide us information as to what happened here,” Avenatti answered.

“Hopefully the president would not plead the Fifth,” he continued. “I think that would be a stunning, shocking development in the history of our nation to have him plead the Fifth.”

Source: Raw Story: Michael Cohen to file ‘emergency stay’ to quash Stormy Daniels case — to plead the Fifth: report

I am not familiar with the source (Raw Story), but it does seem to be reasonably faithful to the actual MSNBC broadcast. For your convenience, I additionally broke-out the embedded YouTube video of the broadcast from within the article.

I haven't really had time to digest this thoroughly, and not being an attorney I have no knowledge as to whether Cohen can shut this all down with the 5th, or will this force Trump to also take the 5th?

Either way, Stormy & Avenatti are giving Trump & Cohen quite a ride here. They seem to be extremely worthy opponents.

I'm not sure what this means for the president, but this story is quickly consuming the WH in a way that I didn't anticipate.

The issue isn't his affair with these women, the issue is that the campaign was directing payments to women for their silence, which is very illegal if proven.

Cohen is nothing but a thug disguised as an attorney, an attorney for thugs, thugs disguised as businessmen & politicians

let them all rot in the cesspool of nothingness, dark & black

I smell a revolution; I love that smell

Midway through the Stormy indecent, I saw an occasional quip like, "she may be the one that brings him down".

While being open-minded, I never gave the quips too much credence. Well, that may be all over! If the Cohen raid was primarily Stormy related, and it yields damning leads, she indeed may turn out to be the one that bought him down. Amazing, if it were to be.

We don't know this for sure though and I am wondering how this could be proved anyway.

An expert in election law said the question of whether President Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen, made an illegal campaign contribution when he paid porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 “turns on intent.”

“If Cohen made the $130,000 contribution to protect the Trump marriage that would not be an illegal campaign contribution,” said Rick Hasen, a professor of election law at the University of California at Irvine. “But if the intent was to help the Trump campaign that would be an excessive in-kind contribution and it wasn’t reported.”

It would be the second time an investigation by a special prosecutor resulted in uncovering a sex scandal involving the president, only this time the party is reversed and the allegations are more serious.

Not only that the investigative tree that bore the fruit for the lead of this new probe is going to go public with their own blockbuster report, that is going to at a minimum tear the WH a new asshole for the presidents obstruction.

The GOP is in its darkest hour.

Could be bigly trouble if Stormy was paid from a Trump campaign/Trump Foundation slush fund.

Avenatti has proven himself to be sharp, calculating, and extremely media savvy. I can feel it in my bones that he's going to prosecute a tough & very visible campaign to identify the guy that he claims threatened Stormy and her kid.

That revolution was within both Parties during the last Presidential primaries. Democrats are next.
If they take the House, a younger crowd, in their 50's are waiting to move up, casting Pelosi and her 2 I/C aside.

cunning, little runt

not to be confused with a female dwarf track star

I find this so very entertaining that the self professed worlds best negotiator is having his ass handed to him by a porn star.

Special times...

That's where emails, text messages, and other records come in.

One message is all it would take.

Could you explain what that message might look like?

I am pretty sure Mueller will have even tea-totallers taking a fifth.

Bannon claimed that around a hundred women were paid off during the election.

For the record, I too rolled my eyes every time I heard somebody say that Stormy was going to "take him down." It was almost my expectation that all she was going to do was embarrass Trump for my amusement. That it's gotten this far and this big is stunning to me.

Perhaps that might explain the odd low amounts that Stormy and the Playmate were paid. A slush fund to cover a 100 women getting paid on average 130K to 150K would have to be around 15 million at least.

I still want to see the Dems complete their revolution. That very much still remains to be seen.

I think November is going to be very entertaining.

It began with Bernie, and those in the House that want the old guard out.
It began after the Dems lost the rural and union voters, who had supported the Dems for many decades. Just look to the recent CD election in Pennsylvania as an indicator of what and who can win, and who will lose.
Then add in the battle who want to take the arty farther left, if they go that way in the 18, they will lose many CD's they could have won

I'm not talking about a revolution in a voting booth; I'm talking about the real deal.
It's past time & it will be interesting to see the tree of liberty refreshed with the blood of patriots & tyrants.
Tyrants more so.
