My first guess would be that evolution would create a response to steer their sexual energy toward procreation and away from less productive activities.

Nature isn't conscious, so there can be no "steering". Things just happen, including things that are beneficial because of a convoluted reason, like certain genes controlling to have people who aren't likely to have kids because their siblings have a higher likelihood of kids and their being childless, more likely to be childless means their family is more likely to have more kids survive to procreate themselves, passing on those genes. Or maybe our bodies are just weird.

Actually it's the opposite. Pedophiles are either sexually attracted to children (regardless of gender) and will choose targets of opportunity or it's a form of power tripping. Rarely do pedophiles violate children because they're attracted to the gender of the child.

And the gay/pedophile priests had sex with little alter boys.
Then, when parishioners complained about their kids getting raped by their priests, instead of turning those priests over to the authorities, they'd just transfer them to a different parish.
Starting and perpetuating the cycle of abuse all over again.

No, it's actually not really used at all and in the cases that it is used, it's to differentiate between child abusers and those who are attracted to children, but not necessarily acted on it. It's to help professionals categorize pedophiles to understand them better, help victims of abuse better, and how to prevent people from becoming pedophiles.

We all agreed that watching two beautiful females kissing would be pleasing. Now, none of us were bigots as teenagers, but I wondered, what caused some kids to swing towards bigotry in adulthood, and others to lean towards acceptance and inclusion?
