Much of the support and love affair with Trump has to do with having fulfilled many of his promises to the American People. Nonetheless, the big question is how much of that was for "personal gain" and how much of it was to help the American people. It does make a difference given that if it was just for personal benefit, at some point a decision it will go against the benefits of the populace if it does not meet his requirements.
Let's begin with the Tax Cut:
1) The Tax Cut was mostly a benefit for the rich as 87% of it was for the wealthy. As such, it benefited Trump and his family much more so than the American Public. Trump could have worked toward it being more beneficial to all, rather than to the rich, but he didn't.
2) Deregulation has helped companies be more aggressive and therefore make more money but given that deregulation also helps Trump and at the same time gives him a topic he can boast about (fulfill his ego), it was an easy decision that did not require any sacrifice from Trump.
3) Lower unemployment is one of those things that Trump is also given credit it for but the reality is that unemployment was already on the way down before he took office and the Tax Cut and deregulation are the reasons it has continued, meaning that this was not something that Trump was aggressively involved with but is taking 100% credit for, thus fulfilling his ego boost thing.
4) Working aggressively toward curbing illegal immigration is also something that gives his base reasons to applaud but then again this also gives Trump what he seeks, which is recognition and an ego boost. Nonetheless, what he has done has not been actually all that helpful given that illegal immigration is only down slightly from where it was on Obama's last few years and in the process he did open the door to be criticized for a lack of humanity. Such action has made the U.S. into a country of no heart and one that is not true to its Statue of Liberty saying of (Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free).
Other than these 4 "accomplishments" being credited to Trump, what has he done for the American Public?
These 4 accomplishments do fulfill Trump's own pocketbook needs as well as his ego needs, meaning that he has sacrificed nothing to achieve them.
What is worse, is that he had done many things that have been negatives to the United States and yet he refuses to see them as negatives since they would mean he has done something wrong, which his ego refuses to accept. Since he does not see them as negatives, they will not be addressed and fixed, such as the Russian hacking, such as the love of autocrats he has shown and disregard for Democratic nations and even now his permissive action with Saudi Arabia's killing of a journalist.
Bottom line is that as long as it is beneficial for Trump, it will get done but the moment it is not beneficial for Trump it will be disregarded. What then happens when something is not beneficial for Trump personally but is beneficial to the United States? Will it get done? Perfect example has been the lack of support or even ordering of increased cyber security against Russia due to the hacking. This is not beneficial to Trump but is extremely beneficial for the American Public. Why then, has he not done the "right thing" for us.
Too much credit is being given to Trump for something that is done simply for the person's own benefit. Most everyone in his position of power and wealth and lack of principles would do the same thing. As such, giving support and love to Trump is ridiculous. Put most anyone else of wealth in the same position and they would accomplish the same and likely without all the negatives attached.
We need a real hero, not a spoiled brat that simply wants to make himself rich and "look" great.
