Christian School Expels Girl for Wearing Rainbow Sweater on Her Birthday

That's what I did when I read your post. You and I have no idea if it was intended to support gay pride. No evidence ever. Mother said it wasn't for gay pride and the school conceded.

I was refuting your statement that rainbows "are not even remotely gay". Obviously they are used by the gay community. And from what I'm seeing about what other people have dug up about her, it does sound like it was meant that way.

I went to a private Christian university. There were strict expectations. If you didn't follow the rules, you were reprimanded. If you continued to not follow the rules, you were suspended or expelled. My freshman year my suitemate was expelled because her parents forced her to attend that school and she hated it. So she intentionally broke the rules to get kicked out. Don't like the rules - don't go to school there. Same goes for private high schools. If your kid isn't going to follow the expectations laid out in the handbook, then enroll your child elsewhere. Simple.

Only Fundies would see anything related to rainbow as supporting gay pride. It's the fault of their preachers. See the avatar in post #844? It's to show the irony.

Consider the Confederate Flag...is ain't what it used to be...times change, things change...

Personally I don't consider the Confederate flag to be racist unless used within that context.

Here is your American Lifestyle Guide to Popular Symbolism:

Bing "Gay Cake":

Now look at the photo of her cake:

It's a gay pride cake.

Case Closed.

I don't either, but many people do...it's all in the context of how it's used imo...

Yep. Search engines search for whatever you want to find. Bing Gay pride cake and you get a gay pride cake...you know, HER CAKE.

Cease the denial - its self-evident. She's proud of being (or supporting) gays. Her mother really ought to find an all girls schools with a "reputation" for cultivating the homosexual lifestyle.

So I went and googled "Noah's ark rainbow cake" and "Racist cake". Guess what? The first has the same results. And the latter had black cakes and cupcakes. I guess black cakes are racist. :lamo

This has got to be the lamest attempt to make it about gay pride.

I guess if I like rainbows and request a rainbow cake, I must be for gay pride.

I didn't say anything related to rainbows is about gay pride. I said the rainbow is the symbol of gay pride, not that every single time a rainbow is worn, shown, eaten, etc. it's a symbol of gay pride. YOU said it wasn't "even remotely gay" which is obviously false.

The context is what I meant. That shirt is a 70's style type. Also, the rainbow is also a symbol of God's love and promise. It can be a symbol for anything. Only Fundies would see rainbow as gay pride only, nobody else.

It's a symbol of gay rights by association. It is not a symbol of gay rights by creation.

PS. The Confederate flag is a symbol of racism by creation, not association.

It wasn't always...

It wasn't always...

It was created as a symbol for states leaving the Union for slavery. They wrote in their letters of Secession, "we're leaving because we want slavery."

The Confederate flag was, in fact, created as a symbol of racism. It's not a symbol by association, like many things (a rainbow and gay rights, for example), it's a symbol of racism by its creation.

It was created as such and thus forever will be such.

We will have to disagree on that...I've lived in the south all my life and I've seen the meaning change over the years...

One can never divorce the creation of a symbol from the symbol. It was created for one reason: To symbolize racism.

Couldn't care what a racist uses as an excuse. They have a lot of excuses for a lot of racist crap.

I guess you've forgotten about the days of Dukes of Hazard with the flag on their car and Lynyrd Skynyrd with the flag tied to their mikes...no, it was not always a symbol for racism...it was merely a 'good ole southern boy' symbol...

Did I not explain that I'm not interested in the excuses of racists? Racists always have excuses for the symbols they employ and the positions they hold. Don't care. The flag was created to symbolize racism.

I am not a racist...sorry you can't admit the truth of the matter...

You fly the Confederate flag? No. You just buy their excuses.
