Britain bans gasoline and diesel cars starting in 2040

Resistance to change.....it's common....especially among us Americans despite the fact that for many years we led the world in creativity, innovation, and change...now we seem content to take a back seat while the rest of the world spins ahead at full speed. For example - we are the only nation left in the world not using the metric system.

I remember that big push to the metric system on the early '70's. Even MLB put it on their fences. I was told, in 4th grade, that we would be fully converted in less that 5 years, if I recall. And then, not much happened after that. I think there was never any real need for it, so it just didn't happen.

The pollution crisis is happening now. People in inner cities are dying. Kicking the can down the road does nothing for the problem.

You are so triggered.

I am telling you the plain facts

Greenies claim their way is better but you still have to bully consumers to do it your way

I remember that, too.

Nothing like freedom, eh? As long as you are complying with choosing the type of car the government has decided that you want. They already have their healthcare decisions made by the government. What's next? Amount of children allowed? Food intake? They probably claimed stuff like this would never happen when they were coaxed into that first step into socialism.

I'm assuming you do not realize the healthcare decisions in Britain are between you and your doctor not you and the government. The government over there foots the medical bill with tax money...are taxes high?..yes!...but there is no government panel going over your medical records to determine what is wrong and if it is covered or if you reached your max or if you are insured or uninsured or if its pre-existing and so on and so on. Why do people think like this?

No, you are really triggered and angry because of a car.

Re-evaluate your anger, you are wasting it on nothing.

I'm not the one passing laws that bully consumers and manufacturers

Liberals are the ones who are angry and taking it out on the public

Do you think that gas powered cars will be the norm or the exception in 2040?

As the laws are being written by gas powered car haters I imagine they will be the exception

Again its as if teddy roosevelt shot all the horese and mules to force farmers to by tractors

So triggered. By anything British, it seems.

Please, please, please. You sure about that? Just you and your doctor, the government has no say? What if you are a smoker, or deemed to be overweight? You'll just get that knee or hip surgery in a couple of weeks?

Of course, I am not talking about deciding what the treatment is, I think they still let your doctor do that, at least for now.

Well...I can't claim to know 1st hand about Britain but do know the Canadian system does not deny healthcare because of obesity or smoking related illnesses.

Boiling frog analogy works well here

Why, I personally plan on banning my use of fossil fuels in 2040 myself. Let's see...17 from 40 is 23. I'm 67. 67 plus 23 is 157. I'm safe. I'll sign a pledge, right after I finish my duties at the CBO.

They are running into cost problems, and will have to get into rationing. Most Canadians are within driving distance of the U.S., and many come here for treatment. This greatly helps prop up their system, since they still pay into it, but don't use it.

Its as if you really have no argument, but you want to make cranky angry (and poorly spelled) responses.

My arguement is sound

If gas cars are on their way out naturally why are you bullying manufacturers and consumers with new laws?

Teddy Roosevelt always asked one question, 'What will it be like in one hundred years?' The ultra conservationist TR, the progress---ive GOP who saved our National Parks from the Gilded wing of the GOP, would approve of cars flying around in 2040.

Wife and I will be visiting TR next week in the Black Hills and Mount Rushmore. Can't wait to hear all the snickers about trump being on the Great Faces .

I suspect the Sturgis crowd would be pro Administration?

You should be thrilled at the incredible advances in technology that you will see this century during your many years still left on this planet.

You will see human missions to Mars and Titan. Nuclear fusion will be online in 10-15 years.

Fossil fuels have served their purpose. Time for a complete overhaul of the energy grid. Brought to you by this Chemist and Physicist .

Don't bet on it. trump's plans to rape the National Monuments and National Forests aren't going over too well with the locals out west.

There's an awesome 90-mile loop in the Black Hills. At one point, you can see Mount Rushmore through a tunnel.

I was inspired to go out West back in the early 1970s by a now departed older Vietnam friend I worked for out of HS in 1971.

He spent 6 months in the Rockies, up into Canada to such places as Lake Louise, after his Vietnam tour to clear his head .

Get the wife to snap a few photos?

Their IC cars are very good because of the german domestic market and the driving demands of it (ie potential high speeds and handling requirements). Their engineers know what a car needs to be for those conditions as they drive in those conditions. Take away that and German cars will have to compete on price and reliability with the Japanese, Koreans and potentially Chinese brands by that time (and of course US brands)

The price premium that BMW, Porsche, MB and Audi get in comparison to say Lexus, or Cadillac will drop.

There is nothing preventing German electric cars from OUTperforming IC autos on performance, speed, acceleration, etc. Just recently, the Tesla Model S (4 door sedan) beat a Porsche 911 turbo in 0-60 and tied at a quarter mile.

See the edit in post #196 based on your edit. trump is skating on thin ice with his plans to rape the natural resources out west .

Just curious: Do people ever get denied... their doctor overruled, essentially... for a procedure or medication? If so, what are some of the common reasons given?

I honestly don't know the answer, hence my asking.
