Re: subpoena for his tax returns, Trump legal team files 179 page brief arguing that "he is absolutely immune from all stages of state criminal process while in office" https://assets.documentcloud.org/documents/6549876/Petition-for-Writ-Trump-v-Vance-1.pdf https://twitter.com/jamiedupree/status/1195107497532706817/photo/1

Donald Trump said he would release his tax returns while RUNNING to be a POLITICIAN.

Now that he IS a POLITICAN he says he's better than all you guys while he IS a POLITICAN (can't even be investigated).

He said so in an 179 page argument.

Politician. Your daddy.

Nobody is above the law.

Except, of course, for Donald Trump.

He's the president and you're not. Neither are Nancy Pelosi or Adam Schiff suck it up pajama boy sick your IRS boys on Maxine Waters or Al Sharpton.

^ This guy has probably said he's a small government Republican in the past. Hell, most Trump's boys have.

Law enforcement can't investigate him.

Special counsels can't even acknowledge he may have committed a crime, let alone indict him.

Any attempt by Congress to hold him accountable is blocked or called a coup.

Yes, the right does believe this man is above the law. They would name him emperor if they had the choice.

Our founders would be astonished how Trump voters support a king like President.

Seriously, are you in fact under thirteen years old?
I am totally serious because "He's the Prezzy-dent and yer not!" sounds an awful lot like an argument a thirteen year old would make when they run out of ideas.

What that poster is really saying is...

"He's our Top Politican!!"

Do you think that interdimensional travel tastes like lime juice?

Ivanka does.

Id post the Lethal Weapon clip of that dude saying... "Diplomatic Immunity!" But then he gets shot so... That would all be taken wrong.

President Truman was the first to release his tax returns to the public. Why did he do it? Because he was poor and his taxes were simple. It forced his opponent to release his taxes, he was a rich man with complicated taxes. It was a 100% political move.

I don't have to show my taxes to anybody and I don't see why Trump should have to either.

As a Trump voter, I don't care what his tax returns say: he made lots of money and tried to shelter that money the best he could. I'd do the same thing.

The IRS is free to audit him if they want.

Mad King Stable Genius and most of the GOP do not want a democracy. That's a simple fact. Fish rots from the head. If Republicans wanted a democracy they'd toss Fat Donny over the side. They haven't and they won't.

I wonder if there are any republicans who know that Trump is an extremely dirty businessman and politician and a crook and are simply praying that he can string everything out long enough to serve for a term or two.

If there are then that's the lowest of the low. Like lower than people in Baltimore who support crooks.

Back to reality, the Constitution does not protect a sitting president from criminal charges nor grant a sitting president immunity.

The Constitution is silent on whether a president can face criminal prosecution in court, and the U.S. Supreme Court has not directly addressed the question.

There is only a DoJ opinion stating a president cannot be indicted. This opinion is not a bona-fide legal ruling or a legal injunction.

We don't want our President rendered entirely ineffective by state charges and lawsuits. We need him to be able to do his job free of state legal obligations.

This is why our system removes the President first. Then he can spend the rest of his days in state and federal court. But while his job is the Presidency, he has other things to do.

It doesn't matter whom the President is. This is the system we installed and for good reason.

I don't think they would. Certain morons from the time of the nation's founding wanted a king too. Morons always do stupid ****. That's what makes them morons.

The Trumpanzees are worse because they have the benefit of historical perspective and they STILL want the wrong thing. That's a special breed of dumb fantasy that authoritarians frequently engage in. No amount of information can dissuade them.

They do want a republic with a limited electorate, kinda like the Founders understood was the 'best' method of governing. The Electoral College was one aspect of that belief in an elite class which would choose the President without regard to the popular vote. This year, a decision by a Federal Appeals Court stated that electors cannot be required to vote as the majority of voters in their state/district voted.

Electoral College Members Can Defy Voters’ Wishes, Court Rules

Aug. 22, 2019

In a ruling that kicks at the foundation of how America chooses presidents, a federal appeals court on Tuesday said members of the Electoral College, who cast the actual votes for president, may choose whomever they please regardless of a state’s popular vote.

The ruling by the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit in Denver said Colorado was out of bounds in 2016 when it canceled the vote of a so-called faithless elector named Michael Baca. Mr. Baca, a Democrat, wrote in the name of John Kasich, a Republican who was Ohio’s governor at the time, even though Hillary Clinton carried Colorado, earning its nine electoral votes. The secretary of state replaced Mr. Baca with another elector who then voted for Mrs. Clinton.

“The text of the Constitution makes clear that states do not have the constitutional authority to interfere with presidential electors who exercise their constitutional right to vote for the president and vice president candidates of their choice,” the court majority wrote in a split ruling by a three-judge panel.

I have a feeling that this opinion would change if Joe Biden or Hillary Clinton were president. I wonder why that is?

For some people, sure. But I understand why we protect the President from time consuming personal distractions.

I am not a Trump supporter. See signature.

He's correct. Even Mueller confirmed that, under oath, when he testified before Congress.

Pro tip: the states don't have power to overrule Federal law.

You think that the IRS can get the tax returns? Seriously? Yeah, I know Trump said he couldn't release them because he was under audit. Apparently there's a law that says anyone under audit is prohibited from allowing anyone else to see those tax returns. Nobody can find that law ... but anyway, the head of the IRS serves at the pleasure of the president, so those returns will never see the light of day.

Anyway, Trump doesn't have to obey the USSC for the same reason he doesn't have to obey congressional subpoenas. He is head of a independent branch of government, and as such he can do whatever he wants, whenever he wants. The president cannot be investigated (seriously, that's the argument) and lacking an investigation, there is no cause to charge criminally no matter what the president does.

So the USSC and Congress can go F*** off. No one can tell DJT what to do. Deal with it.

You would be one of the first ones to change your position, too.
