Will CBS axe Colbert earlier than the pre-announced May, 2026 cancellation?

Will CBS prematurely cancel the Late Show or allow Colbert to do what he wants?

That's what we were discussing. Are you now choosing to be ignorant about this too?
Colbert is on streaming
Um, what?

Attendance has been dropping for years, but for some types of movies more than others. You really have no clue what you're talking about.
You what to pretend it's not the woke trash. But that's what it is.
Great, then I'll assume you're basing that on facts or do you normally bet good chunks of money on baseless opinions?
With you it's a safe bet.
Ah, so anecdotal data, cool. I'm sure Mercedes Benz sucks because I didn't buy one.
Are you suggesting that that is special pricing just for me?
They are not no matter how many times you repeat it.
All I have to go on is your insistence.
I didn't.
I was responding to you mentioning it cuz I didn't bring it up.
It is not, but that you say this to my response indicates yours most certainly is.
I know you are but what am I
🤭
No gaslighting required. Everything I stated is easily referenced, so have at it or post baseless opinions and get called out.
Sure

Current events can be funny. However they have to also be real. That said they have to be done cheaply as they clearly are not very profitable.
Not necessarily, since comedians aren't news reporters or news pundits. They can make a joke and depart from reality for comedic effect. As for profitability, there's been nothing released by CBS addressing what made it unprofitable.

The point was there was no pee tape but the comedy helped prime you to believe the accusation.
It didn't prime me for anything, because I saw that clip when it aired and saw it for what it was. What actually helped prime me to believe the accusation was Trump's seedy past and shady characters he had long associated with before his foray into politics.

Yes hence the kernel of truth. It doesn't have to be 100% true. If you made a joke about Trump being 150 years old and on his fifth wife who happened to be an Eastern European model that joke would land as an example. As I said most people have a drunk family member who acts out at all the family gatherings so it is relatable.
That kernel of truth for those of us familiar with Trump was already there.

Two points there. The birth certificate thing was flipped on Democrats but started against John McCain who was born in the Panama Canal zone. Second, Trump has a comedian's instincts and if I wanted to flip it and use it I would absolutely do so against someone named Barack Obama.
I thought Trump didn't make jokes per his own admission? In many of the interviews I saw on news shows it didn't sound like a comedy bit at all.

So now you don't trust "the science"? This just sounds like flailing from you. Too bad you were actually doing some good discussion above.
I am trusting the science and pointing out the problems with the study your own source points out. Did you not read your own source before posting it?

Comedy is partially about pushing the edge of conformity. Comedy used to be edgy. The late night hosts are the opposite of that. Hence why I say they aren't engaged in comedy. It is performed as comedy but is about conformity. Most major comedians have been considered problematic or even had attempted cancelling in this age. Dave Chapell, Joe Rogan, Jerry Seinfeld and many more have complained about the speech policing.
Comedy is still edgy, and late night hosts are generally not the ones who push the envelope which often falls on stand up comedians. There have certainly been late night show hosts who changed the paradigm like Letterman, but he was not "edgy" in the way someone like Pryor was.

You've been primed to believe this and so it's not surprising you do believe it. Yet Trump has grown his coalition every single election cycle he has been in. That's a fact.
If by "priming" you mean witnessing the evolution of MAGA and the behavior of its followers, most definitely.

Enjoy the strawman. It has to be relatable even if it didn't directly happen to the comedian.
🤭

I understand comedy quite well. I'll tell you what would have been good and cheap comedy they could have done without traveling to Russia and that would have referenced the supposed pee tape. However that would be real comedy and not an attempt to do pretend comedy in the name of conformity.
You are aware they didn't travel to Russia just to make that clip, yes? This obsession with conformity is quite comical, so thanks for that.

You would have the host say they've got a secret pee tape of Trump. They managed to secure it and now they can reveal it to the world. The "tape" would just be surveillance video of someone dressed as Trump peeing in all the areas one goes when they have an emergency. Trump back turned peeing in a corn field. Trump back turned peeing in an alley. Trump back turned peeing next to the wheels of his private jet and so on.

It's relatable because most people have had a pee emergency and in this day and age security cameras probably catch a lot of it.

But the "joke" from Colbert wasn't about that. It was about trying to reinforce that Russians have dirt on Trump from a sexual fetish. Most of us cannot relate to that at all and even less so when it's all fake.
Make sure to send your suggestions for skits to your late night comedy show of choice. Good luck!

He is, but that wasn't the point we were discussing. I see you're now taking the off ramp.

You what to pretend it's not the woke trash. But that's what it is.
Incorrect. Again, I welcome you to make a fact base argument and present data to back your assertion. I know you won't, but the offer stands.

With you it's a safe bet.
That would be a losing bet. I can back my points up, you cannot.

Are you suggesting that that is special pricing just for me?
Nope. I am aware of that promotional offer and it wasn't just for you. That you chose not to take it did nothing to expand on your originally ridiculous comment of not being able to give Disney away for free though.
🤭

All I have to go on is your insistence.
Nope. Research is your friend.

I was responding to you mentioning it cuz I didn't bring it up.
I never mentioned Disney. Please cite where I brought that specific company up. I did mention Netflix and Apple, but not Disney nor did I say they were an example of anything.

I know you are but what am I
🤭
Yeah, that sums your debating skills.

Apple TV has been losing money for years.

Indeed, and they have their own share of issues, but Apple is making the gamble on Apple+ because they can afford to do so. They're still in this mode of trying to build a subscriber base and not caring about profitability like the old days, but then again they have a whole hardware/software business to bankroll all of this.

Okay. Wasn’t necessarily meant to be a provocative topic. I just thought the idea of him going after his bosses might make for good television.
Follow the money as they always say. Have they already paid him to perform, or can they let him go for less payout. They'd have to have someone step in and most likely pay them. I don't see him making it to the end they already specified.

Few people really care. He might get a bump in viewership if CBS continues to tolerate his childish behavior. It looks like suicide by cop to me.

I’ve never watched any of those clowns on late night. At least since Letterman. He could be funny at times.

He has a contract. I'm pretty sure his lawyers have pointed out what line(s) he'd have to cross to allow Paramount to get rid of him without having to paying him.

Seems like he has the platform he likes now just fine. ""The gloves are off." He already told TACO to "go **** himself" 2 nights ago.

So we'll see if he keeps it "between the lines."

Esp now. I bet they're [advertisers] lining up for air time after this. Knowing it will be the hottest late night show for 9 more months. Or less...so they may pay even more! :D People will be tuning in to see how far Colbert will go.

He'll become more of a cash cow for CBS/Paramount :D

If you find him insufferable, that's proof that he's succeeding. He's brilliant, a modern day Will Rogers.
He’s whiny, petty and just mean. Hardly anything at all like Will Rogers, but I get why he’s so popular on this website.

Collaborationists.

The left's constant conspiracy fixation is what's embarrassing.

Paramount has already been willing to bribe the president and compromise the independence of 60 minutes. So you can't trust them regarding that the cancellation of the Late Show was just a financial discussion. Also authoritarians will always demand more from those who give in to their demands.

Also Trump have build his entire career on conspiracy theories.

Of course. No tainting of the anointed hero.
You win the award for avoiding the issue. I asked for actual examples of Colbert being whiny and mean, but all you do is spout generalities. You would make a great Republican.

I’m sure Mr. Colbert appreciates your efforts at white knighting.

I see that you still have nothing to back up your accusation.
My beagles would probably like me to justify why I won’t give them all of the dog food at once, but I know that no matter what I tell them, they aren’t going to accept it. Same energy. It’s a waste of time so I don’t bother with it.

CBS needs to face a MASSIVE boycott. Nothing they air needs to be viewed and none of the actors on CBS shows need new jobs.

They can all go broke.

The mindless asshole at CBS that made this call needs to lose his job, benefits, pension, and be denied a parachute.

If we want this to stop, CBS needs to be held ABSOLUTELY ACCOUNTABLE.

Make the sons of bitches poor.

Buy NOTHING advertised on CBS.

Your folksy comment is cute, but it doesn't make up for the fact that you can't back up your accusation. Either give an example of Colbert being whiny, or just stop responding.
