Why Saturday Night Live Is More Important Than Ever

How silly. It's very funny. I'm not sure how anyone could be offended so far... though I have to admit I missed the last one. There's no danger to Trump supporters. Comedians have been making fun of presidents forever... except for Obama. If a comic did too much, they were labeled racist.

The power of humour is not that it can offend. But that it is an extremely difficult force to fight against. It's growth suggests more people are taking trump less seriously. Losing credibility in politics is a death sentence to any politician. It is not the jokes that trump supporters should worry about but the growing influence on potential voters.

But how to make trump look like he is a serious contender when more people are listening to alec baldwin.

If they were trying to promote understanding that might be a good thing.

But that is not what they are after is it?

No, it is not what they are after. This is an attack not an education. But it is also a quite acceptable tactic and very effective. Even terrorists understand how humour can adversely effect their ability to look credible. No coincidence Charlie hebdo was a satirical magazine.

As a side issue i also recommend this method of satire is just as effective when dealing with some of christianity or other religions.

Satire tends to turn into dickdom when power is involved, as it is here.

Human Nature.

I think it's a damn shame everything is becoming politicized.

But it's no surprise that SNL (hollywood) is overwhelmingly Liberal. Nothing like being virtue signaled about the average mans issues by people in massive million dollar homes in gated communities.

Hollywood, New York.

What "gated communities" do the stars and writers of SNL reside in?

Back before they became political. Members like Laraine Newman, Jane Curtain, Gilda Radner, Garrett Morris , John Belushi, and Chevy Chase.

SNL has ALWAYS been political.

Have you never seen SNL before?

Thank you a perfect example of how humour is difficult to combat.
Considering that SNL is growing in popularity i would like to see some evidence or reasoning as to why people are attracted to dickdom. This looks more like personal taste than human nature.

Just read best year in 22.

Dang, they seem to actually matter for the first time in a very long time.

And the question is. Just how much should it matter to trump?

Well since the left is insisting on everyone picking sides and last I heard most of the "experts" agree that America is still a Center/Right country and the Rebellion did just hijack what was the conservative party so Trump is flying the conservative flag so I gotta figure that Trump is thrilled.

Why do you ask?

SNL has ALWAYS been political.

Yup. And politicians have always been the subject of humor/satire. Some make themselves bigger targets. Some handle it better than others.

Trump can't handle it at all.

Poor persecuted baby.

I don't watch the show so I don't know first hand, but from what I've read in articles they have a distinct mean streak when it comes to Trump. As you say, they couldn't display that with Obama but it seems to be accepted when it comes to Trump.

Since you watch the show, what do you think? Do they veer into meanness territory?

I've only seen a couple, Mycroft. I didn't think they were mean. But that's me. I'm not sure it's that smart for SNL to be too cruel with their humor. They care about ratings after all. Last one I saw was LOL funny.

I was happy they turned down Rosie ODonnell who went to great lengths to offer up her services to portray Bannon... at least for now. She even paid a professional to do very advanced make-up and wardrobe and Tweeted it out. Now SHE is mean spirited. If she goes on the show, I'll probavly throw something thru my flatscreen.

I think I'll start taping their show...:lamo

Because your experts are ****ting you if you if you think america is in la la land at the moment.
Divisiveness and uncertainty is what you do have. A breeding ground for satire. And satire is a powerful influence.

Trumpettes are tone deaf to criticism. It's all fake news unless their Donald tells them differently.

They risk ignoring a potential threat. The thing about humour is that it can make criticism fun which people like and tend not to ignore.

Not really, it's at the point of saturation and the liberal circle jerk won't have much staying power.

But it has growing power that is something we can all agree on.
Humour has been quite successful in making major changes in government and influencing voters.
Have you ever heard of The McGillicuddy Serious Party
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McGillicuddy_Serious_Party
or the english The Official Monster Raving Loony Party.

America has its own style of humour and SNL may be this version of it.
