What Went Wrong?

I'm not a Republican. They do all sorts of assheaded things. My loyalty isn't sworn to the GOP.

Maybe you are not a Republican, but you certainly seem to be a Trump lover. To me, that is worse as I have no big beef with party platforms. I do have a big beef with incompetency lovers.

Sorry, that's not true. Herd immunity means that between 70%-90% of the population has been infected. All of NY state has less than 400K cases in a population of 19 million. which is less than 20%. Personally, living in Manhattan I do not know of anyone who has had the virus. One of my co-worker's Dad passed away in April but that's the only person in my "herd" that I'm aware of. We're winning the battle because we strictly follow the CDC guidelines and we have a governor who explained to all of us everyday what we need to do to avoid getting sick and we listened...let's call it HERD OBEYING! Texas, FL, AZ et al are in the category of HERD DENIAL.
Actually we do not know what level would break or radically slow down community transmission,
but the tested number and the possibly infected number could be radically different.
From the cited article,
In New York City, about 21 percent tested positive for coronavirus antibodies during the state survey.
The rate was about 17 percent on Long Island, nearly 12 percent in Westchester and Rockland Counties and less than 4 percent in the rest of the state.
So back in April, they were estimating that over 1.7 million people in NYC had already had Covid-19.
I think this was about 10 times the level of positive tests at the time.
We also do not know who is at greater risk of contracting the virus, Some studies imply that type A blood carries a greater risk.
I think covid-19 will continue to be a concern until a vaccine is released in mass, all the guidelines will only slow the spread
to a rate that the hospitals can keep ahead of the sick.

The bottom line is that if every part of this country followed the CDC guidelines, especially wearing masks and social distancing things would be much, much better and our economy would also be healthier. The irresponsible non-actions of Trump and most GOP governors (not all) is now causing businesses to close again and will cause more people to get laid off. All anyone has to do is look to the EU...they stayed at home and closed everything and when they reopened they did so in similar fashion to what the CDC is suggesting. That's not dumb luck...that's SCIENCE.

We do not yet know what cause the recent spikes in new cases, I say the protests were a large factor.
but the reality is that we do not know.

The reality is that we have to wear masks, social distance and stay at home as much as possible. NY showed the way. Do you know that hospitalizations in NYC for Covid-19 are down by 95%? One other big reason is testing is readily available here and because of knowing who has it and contact tracing here things are so much better. Did you see how hard it is to get tests in the states being hardest hit right now?

I know how hard it is to get tested, all the tests went to New York!
Seriously I got a test two weeks ago, I wish I had gotten the antibody test.
We do still have large limits on testing, I had suggested to the Blood center to add an antibody test to all donations,
to encourage blood donations, I think it would increase donations.

when i gave an apheresis donation last friday i was informed an antibody test would be conducted and the results communicated to me in about 7-10 days
maybe someone heard you

Cool! I hope they did, I will be ready to donate soon.

My definition is just fine, and your own posts backs me up (placed in bold). Thank you for your support.

Pay attention! You state there is now limited reopening in Texas , I point out that you have a strange definition. Then you bold 50% per my post. But the post clearly says that was in early June and you fail to read on to the end of the post to see that they are NOW scaling BACK to 50% so it’s not 50% NOW.
