You’d have to ask Putin what he wants from Trump. He obviously did not like Hillary cause she criticized his election among other things. He might have liked Trump cause Trump said Russia was not in Ukraine, due to Trump’s investments, etc. I assume that the brass ring for Vlad would have been Trump’s lifting of sanctions, but no way could Trump get away with that once the cat (bear) was out of the bag.

It is indeed illegal for candidates to solicit or receive help from a foreign government. As the FEC chair put it in an apparent warning to Trump, “I would not have thought that I needed to say this... It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a US election. This is not a novel concept.” You can choose to believe that the Russians wanted to discuss foreign adoptions as the Trumps said. After all, rules and reality don’t apply on Fifth Avenue, even if Trump were to shoot someone there.

As to chaos, I’m with the prophet Jeb Bush, we have had chaos at airports following the inauguration, chaos on the border last year and this, chaos with our allies on the Iran treaty, and we are the only country in the world that disagrees with voluntary plans on climate change the Paris agreement called for. Then again, presumably those with Trump on Fifth Ave think climate change was a fraud invented by the Chinese.
