Trump: 'US will not allow transgender individuals to serve in military' [W:144]

It requires constant medical attention. That's the issue here.

No it doesnt. Its a pill or two a day depending on what you were prescribed. For me its a pill a day and a shot a week.

Yeah, whatever. During his campaign Trump claimed "the lgbt community has no better friend than me". Then one of the first things Trump did was roll back the right of federal employees to use the bathroom of their choice. Trump is desperate for the support of his anti-lgbt adopted party. He doesn't give a **** about the lgbt community or anyone but himself.

The only time Trump isn't lying is when he's not speaking. Oh, well. Elections have consequences.

Funny how you don't present any opinion of your own in a thread you started and instead just celebrate what you think it will do to your political opposition.

Its so hard to take trumpettes seriously on the political front when all you guys seem to want to do with political power is settle scores or bludgeon others rather than lead at all in any particular direction.

I am tired of seeing people taking glee in people feeling distraught over Trump winning. I am one of those people who was very upset and worried about my family. I don't take kindly to people finding a reason to laugh about it.

I'd like to see the reasoning behind the ban. Evidently it was done in consult with top generals. I'll reserve judgement until then. The disabled and people beyond certain ages are barred from the military. It's top priority should be defense of the homeland and ensuring American interests and enforced abroad, not to be a social experiment or politically correct.

There is the potential for a big issue here. Since the military provides service members full medical coverage it wouldn't be unreasonable to expect people in transition to join the military primarily to facilitate (read "subsidize") the sex change treatment. That's not what the military is for.

I don't think any medical insurance covers elective/plastic surgery. Joining the military shouldn't be any different.

I personally don't feel strongly about this. I don't support the idea of people joining the US military, because I feel the US political system takes advantage of soldiers and is quick to declare war for money and politics and does not take care of them once they are wounded. If the government makes it more difficult for people to join, the better IMO.

I'm curious as to WHY they shouldn't be allowed to serve? What is the logic here? What is the purpose? Who does this help? Why?

Because you're only looking at it from their and your point of view.

Didn't it occur to you how uncomfortable it would make service members who had to shower with these people? Or sleep in the same barracks? Stay in the same foxhole?

Even beyond that, the military trains men and women to be warriors. Not politically correct liberals. If you asked a squadron of marines how they felt about LGBQT in their squadron, you might start to understand how this isn't a good mix.

To transition requires:
Therapist
Endocrinologist
Hormones
Lot's and lots of blood work
Up keep, maintence of your health... going OFF those hormones is a serious deal, causes problems. What if you're in a place where supplies are hard to come by?

You dont need a therapist. I think at one time it was required but it isnt anymore. Havent seen mine in over 5 years or so.
Honestly I havent seen my doctor around half a year nor have I gotten bloodwork done in about half a year. Initially I had to see my doctor every couple of months to make sure the dosage was correct but now I just go every so often to make sure everything is still fine.
Hormones are easy. A pill a day or two pills depending. Not a lot of maintenance there.
From what I understand going off your hormones isnt exactly good or anything but due to shortages and difficulties getting hormones Ive had to go off them something like 3 times. Longest period without them was around a month and a half. It sucked but I managed. So sure if you are in a place where supplies are hard to come by it will indeed suck once you run out but its doable.

If a physician is prescribing someone hormones and hasn't seen their patient in the office or done labs in years that sounds like major malpractice to me. Not everyone's case may be like yours. Using hormones does have risks (especially estrogen containing ones) and any physician should be monitoring their patients as just good clinical practice.

Honestly im overestimating it now that I sit and think about it. There was snow on the ground last time I went so It was probably a little over half a year. I have a pretty terrible memory. Im going to amend my statement. And yes its not a perfect situation. Either way you dont need constant care to the point where you cant serve.

Edit: More im thinking about more I realize im not 100% sure when that one was. Like I said not exactly the best memory. So I guess thanks for reminding me I should call my doctor lol.

$$$ is a terrible reason to announce this course re-correction. The second component stated "remendous medical costs and disruption that transgender in the military would entail."

Look...whether people want to admit it or not a-Transgendered individuals are NOT all healthy and ****. Percentage of those that are or arent? I wouldnt hazard a guess...but..you would be completely dishonest if you didnt acknowledge there is at least a concern over the mental health and instability ABOVE AND BEYOND what 'normal' individuals face. b-I dont give a **** if you think it speaks poorly of the military or not...but the reality is that transgendered individuals in the military will cause instability in the ranks. Period. If you deny it you either 1- know nothing about the military or 2-know the makeup of the military and are lying to continue to support a cause you believe in. Shame on you.

I have 2 sons in harms way. I spent 7 out of 20 years in harms way. ****s bad enough just doing the job. And the absolute reality is the vast majority of you talking **** about this have never and would never serve.

Too late to edit my post so Im just quoting myself and you. After thinking about it Im not sure how long its been since Ive had blood work or seen my doctor so ignore that because im not confident about it anymore but after some googling it seems you should get bloodwork every 6 months when on HRT however I have seen some people say their doctor has them get blood work annually.

Oh dear God. How many times was this argument made in our history?

How many people do you know that went into the military to pay for an education. Perhaps not the best reason to go in, but a reason many do,

I didn't say you were. You probably aren't old enough to have experienced the African American struggle so you can't even begin to notice the similarities in the struggle for equality. Or just don't want to acknowledge it. Whatever your excuse is you wanna make up.

Don't be mad at anyone else if you can't explain your ideologies inconsistencies.

And your post previous to this one was about how I was playing the victim card? Too funny.

Hey when race baiting is all you have why not throw it like rice. Btw try out that equality statement with black voters. Hint: they hate it.

Whatever makes you feel better about being on the attack and whining about how your social views are under attack at the same time in your little bubble there opportunity.

Whatever makes you feel like your social views are the only ones that matter. Keep tossing that race card, why not the whole deck.

I don't base my happiness on Trump's administrative decisions.

Because of the rucksack full of trans-gear?

That's a deflection and you know it.

One of the SEALs who took out Bin Laden is trans. Trump dodged the draft FIVE times. Any trans person going out their front door in the morning shows more courage than Trump ever will.

Donald Trump never dodged the draft. That is a pure fabrication

Transgendered people have a mental disorder. The military doesn't need to deal with that.

As usual you still manage to rise to the level of wrong.
That must be tiresome, being wrong so often.
They used to say homosexuality was a mental disease. Do you think that homosexuality is a mental illness??

They said the same thing about gays and women. The Israelis studied the effects of transgendered people in the military and found no disturbance. Its not impossible to tell a person who is suffering from or at a high risk of suffering from debilitating depression and if that is is the concern, that concern should apply to everyone.

I understand and agree with not offering to pay for reconstruction surgery, but targeting transgender people in this manner is justified bigotry. There's no reason to do it. Reject them for having depression or being on chronic hormone therapy or any of the hundreds of other reasons you can be rejected from the military. Some transgendered people aren't on hormones and aren't depressed and don't want reconstruction surgery. They should be given a chance at least, not outright banned.

Gays have always served in the military. Do you know why don't ask don't tell was successful?

Do you know why the military hasn't imploded in on itself after don't ask don't tell was repealed?

It should be regulated as such that you can be transgender and still serve but you have to not have transitioned and you must remain the sex of your birth for the duration of your service. Otherwise you're talking about significant medical care for what is a preexisting condition, which is grounds for keeping all kinds of people out of the military.

If someone thinks they are a horse. Can he/she run in the Kentucky Derby? Will they sue the government if they aren't let in?

'Russia's debt is $885 billion, the United States is $20 Trillion.
Per citizen debt in Russia is $1.081 In the United States it's $61,271'

Could paying for every pet project of the Obama administration like reassignment surgery be a big reason why?

I think part of it may be a long war in Iraq and a long war in Afghanistan. But lets pretend the debt was zero before Obama took office and started reassigning everyone's gender!

I learn something new every day. I had no idea that only having one testicle would be a disqualifying issue. That's surprising because I served with more than one guy that had no balls whatsoever or had them but let their girlfriend/wife keep them in her purse all day.

Well what I posted is the standard that must be accepted to enter the military to serve and I don't see how transgenders reach that threshold to qualify. Some may start a process after they have enlisted but if that process started before they enlisted it would disqualify them.

I have never seen such an effort to promote and coddle even children to question their sexual identity. Not sure what is going on but I don't find it healthy thought.
A person that chooses to change their sex identity loses all rights to reproduce. They will never be able to produce offspring. They also live on cocktails of hormones and other drugs. No longterm studies have been performed on the outcome of such therapies and the adverse affects on their bodies. If margarine an artificial butter, refined sugar and processed foods can cause havic on all
of us causing all kinds of diseases, what are the consequences of pumping a body full of hormones it was never intended to process?
