Trump suggests that it could get 'very bad' if military, police, biker supporters play 'tough'

This may be the answer to my previous question, and a reassuring one. Supporting Trump as an elected official is not the same as fighting for him as a self acclaimed dictator. Most conservatives in the United States are too individualistic to support a fascist dictator.

Military Times, October 15, 2018

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump’s approval rating among active-duty military personnel has slipped over the last two years, leaving today’s troops evenly split over whether they’re happy with the commander in chief’s job performance, according to the results of a new Military Times poll of active-duty service members.

About 44 percent of troops had a favorable view of Trump’s presidency, the poll showed, compared to 43 percent who disapproved.

The results from the survey, conducted over the course of September and October, suggest a gradual decline in troops’ support of Trump since he was elected in fall 2016, when a similar Military Times poll showed that 46 percent of troops approved of Trump compared to 37 percent who disapproved. That nine-point margin of support now appears gone.

Support for Trump is fading among active-duty troops, new poll shows

Then why do they do it?

Then why do they do it?

Simple, your reality is different than theirs, as is your perspective,

They are able to see past the words and bluster, and look at the policies and determine if they are good or bad for themselves,

You, are so stuck on words, and so worried about the illegal immigrant, that you fail to see the good that is actually happening.....you are blind to it because of your blatant irrational hate for the man you think is responsible for your ****ty lot in life.

Then why do they do it?

Good question. It appears that the politics have literally trumped the ideology. Please excuse the pun. Far too many people who claim to be conservatives of the right have signed on the dotted line to be Trumkins. There is no real Republican Party - only supporters of Trump.

Trump has literally slain conservatism and replaced it with memetic Twitter tribalism.

Sadly, that is mostly true. There are still principled conservatives like David From out there but they flail about in the darkness of Trump as they search for a new home.

The recent Senate vote in which only 12 Republicans stood for the Constitution was a very sad day for America. And it symbolizes what has happened to the Republicans as a party.

Trump's supporters know that historical trends are moving against them. They view Trump as their last hope of preserving the American they know and love. This gives an element of hysteria to those Trump supporters who feel most threatened, and makes their response to an attempted coup by Trump unpredictable.

Christian conservatives know that America is becoming more secular and hedonistic.

White male blue collar Republicans know that being a white man means less and less on the job market if that is all one can offer. Now one needs enough intelligence to master a skilled trade or a profession.

Businessmen know that democratic socialism is becoming more popular.

When these people say, "The United States is a republic, not a democracy," they mean that majority opinion lacks legal and moral legitimacy. Many of them might give violent support to an effort by Trump to overthrow what has been a successful democracy for over two centuries.

George Will has registered as an Independent.

Oh, they rationalize.

They ignore their long held values because Trump hates the same folks they hate. Got it.

What I find fascinating is folks who claim to be conservative or republican supporting TRump.

Trump is the greatest con man of all time.

Well, even the failed economic system of soviet socialism was capable of solving at least one problem, that of homelessness. So, I do not buy the ida that is unrealistic to have government solutions of democratic socialism which can more effective than the market system approach. Recall again, that despite the pro-market culture in Texas, the fact is that the poverty rate there is higher than in CA when one does not factor the housing cost which cannot be compared between states with different demographic density and consumer demand . Part of the reason people seem to be upset with the :establishment today is because they seem to recognize that the ideology of surrendering most of the powers to the private market in the hope of having an economic tide that will lift al boats does not seem to work for a big percentage of people in the US.

As for the local communities. the current legal system simply makes it almost impossible to have a government dictate to the local population decisions about how to organize their communities (and this is actually a good thing!) Notice how difficult it is even for the powerful federal government to enforce actual federal law on immigration in sanctuary cities.

Yes, we have done quite well in the world because for the most part of the previous century we were playing alone since most competitors had ruined their economy either because of wars or because of communism or because of both of them (Soviet Union and China). Today, the environment is different, and our practices and ideologies should adjust to the new realities. You like it or not, it is impossible to keep stability in a society where income inequality continues to increase and a growing part of the population is left behind. This cannot go on forever...

You socialists will never get it, take away incentive and you have nothing but dependence. Is that how you were raised? It is impossible to keep stability when you have so many dependent on someone else for their personal responsibility issues. Socialism destroys incentive, creativity, and risk taking all of which creates the new drugs, new products, and a booming economy that allows everyone else to be the best they can be.

You really don't understand our history and our economy do you? Our Founders created what has been the best country on the face of the earth with opportunity for personal development and creation of new ideas and products. It has been built on equal opportunity, not equal outcome which you are proposing and will put this country on par with similar results to other socialist countries in the world, high taxes and low incentive thus weak economies dependent on gov't spending

Yes, the actual results generated are obviously being ignored by you as the march towards that liberal utopia continues. Still waiting where that utopia exists in the world because 50 independent states in this country won't allow it to work here.

Why on earth would business believe in democratic socialism? What does that offer to people, dependence? Slightly liberal my ass!! You don't get it and probably never will but the silent majority does exist in this country and will never adopt democratic socialism as their economic model. Keep working to destroy the best economy in the world all because you cannot compete

Those observations are very valid. They are trends which disturb Trumpkins and seem to thrown Donald himself in fits of rage.

But there is little they can do hold back what trends they fear for the long haul, and that is what Trumpism is - a temporary fear which will be overcome and rendered to the dustbin of history.

Bunch of fox news hot air right here, folks.

Blank pablum filled with empty, worn out talking points. That's all he provides. Then he pretends there's actually content in it and the rest of the world is just to stupid to see it. Then throw in a dash of condescension and you have the worst case of Dunning Kruger ever.

I am not a communist, and I am not rejecting the concept of income inequality and different rewards based on how people perform. I am just saying that the trend we se now based on the current system is unsustainable. History shows that such extreme inequalities can actually destroy republics. Democracy is also undermined by such extreme concentration of wealth and a system where money is considered "free speech" and influences policies. The Founding Fathers lived in a different area. For most of its history, the US had a HUGE economic advantage which does not possess anymore. The US could address economic problems and offer hope to its poor by expanding and gaining new land and resources to the west (at the expense of the native Americans). This is why the Americans could be more optimistic than the Europeans who lived in a much more densely populated continent with developed states and where the poor did not have many opportunities to get a better life by getting a piece of land. This is why Europe was more prone to pessimism and revolutions.

They are not looking in the mirror either.

There is a reason that most democracies in the world fail, lost incentive and laziness. The U.S. advantage is being destroy by people like you who continue to try and sell others on the valueless programs of having someone else pay for your personal responsibility issues and destroying incentive to create individual wealth. Liberals are their worst enemies totally failing to recognize there are consequences for failure and convincing others that isn't the case. What happens IF you are wrong?

What is preventing you or anyone else from moving up in class as we have a growing economy not a finite one. We currently have incentive that is being destroyed due to handouts and spending in the name of compassion. You offer nothing but gloom, doom and failure. Once the move to democratic socialism there is no turning back. What are the consequences of Democratic Socialism?

If there is no incentive to grow what really develops?

Trump suggests that it could get 'very bad' if military, police, biker supporters play 'tough'

President Trump in a new interview suggested that his supporters are tougher than Democrats, and that if they actually play tough things could get "very bad."Trump made the comments in the context of an interview with the conservative outlet Breitbart in which he argued that Democrats play a tough political game.

"You know, the left plays a tougher game, it's very funny," Trump said in the interview with Breitbart published on Wednesday. "I actually think that the people on the right are tougher, but they don't play it tougher."

President Trump in a new interview suggested that his supporters are tougher than Democrats, and that if they actually play tough things could get "very bad."

"I can tell you I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump - I have the tough people, but they don't play it tough - until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad," Trump said.

It looks like we're really close to the point when Trump will call for violence and his base seems at time to be just as anxious for violence as well. There's no limit to this man's abhorrent, traitorous, dictatorial behavior.

Doesn't matter what Trump says. Those are just words. However, a recent poll posted somewhere here on DP showed that more Democrats than Republicans wished the other side would just die off and also found that more Democrats than Republicans felt that if the other side won in 2020, violence would be justified. This is how Americans actually feel. So, if one side were more apt to use violence for political reasons, it would be the left, not the right.

Well, funny though that we need to have tariffs to compete with the failed socialist EU democracies! I do not know how you measure success and failure, but I suspect you use the same metrics which gave all these "good numbers" in the last decades about the economic performance while at the same time the extreme income inequality made sure to concentrate most of the gains within a small pat of the population while a big part of Americans were left behind. These are the same Americans who wear hats saying "Make America Great Again" By the way, are you aware that right now the US is the only western developed country where life expectancy is falling? And this is happening for three years in a row!

Truly doubt that anyone in this forum is going to have their minds changed or admit they are wrong but the entire basis of Democratic socialism is for gov't to provide for the basic needs of the individual which does come at a cost. Who pays that cost? Trump got it right when he stated

"America was founded on liberty and independence - not government coercion, domination, and control. We are born free, and we will stay free. Tonight, we renew our resolve that America will never be a socialist country."

Democratic Socialism destroys incentive and it is incentive that created the strongest economy in the world. Malcontents now are growing in number and never see any consequences if that ideology is accepted. Destroying incentive eventually will destroy the country as the cost of democratic socialism or providing for the personal needs of 330 million Americans is overwhelming and impossible to implement so the step by step march to true socialism continues here in this forum and promoted by people like you.

We need tariffs to put American business on par with European and other world economies that support their businesses at the expense of ours by manipulating currency. America first truly bothers socialists who believe in the global economy that isn't even close to being free market competition. Americans can compete anywhere in the world on a level playing field but you people want to tilt that playing field leading to total gov't control

Let's face it, life expectancy exists and no one is going to live forever. Life expectancy is affected by personal behavior and actions such as smoking, drug usage, and improper eating habits. Are those now issues that you believe the gov't should control? Were you taught growing up that it was the governments role to raise you? That is what socialism ends up doing, taking away freedom to make both good and bad choices
