Trump should tell Congress to shove this bill up their _______

It is very difficult to remove an incumbent congressional representative in the primary election process - many run unopposed, have very weak opposition and/or have a huge funding advantage. In the general election the (only viable?) alternative is to vote for the "worng" party's candidate - do you think that a "right" voter would be more happy with a demorat as their congressional representative or that a "left" voter would be more happy with a republicant as their congressional representative?

Another problem is that of the 535 congress critters one can only vote for (or against) at most 3 of them.

Nothing stops people from voting out who they don't like and asking a republican to vote for a democrat, well that's just crazy, they'll vote for the same folks they claim aren't doing their job before they would vote for a democrat. Almost every election I vote against an incumbent. I'm of the idea that the longer a person stays in congress the more apt they are to becoming part of the problem of doing nothing but trying to keep their seat.

But … gee golly Wally … looks like he AbsaByGodLutely IS going to sign it.

Apparently shut downs don't work, AmeriCANs already knew the situation at OUR Southern Boarder ISN'T a "crisis", and tRump knows that if he doesn't sign HE will be the proud owner of another senseless shutdown.

Me too, but resistance is futile in my hopelessly (and unconstituionally) gerrymandered House district. It contains parts of 5 counties (yet no entire county) and parts of two cities about 80 miles apart. It guarantees that a demorat will win.

Texas's 35th Congressional District includes parts of the San Antonio metropolitan area (primarily black-and Hispanic-majority areas), including portions of Bexar County, thin strips of Comal and Hays, and a portion of Caldwell county, as well as portions of southern and eastern Austin in Travis County.

In March 2017, a panel of federal judges ruled that the 35th district was illegally drawn with discriminatory intent. In August 2017 there was another ruling that the district is unconstitutional. However, the district was allowed to stand in the Supreme Court's 2018 Abbott v. Perez ruling.

He'll sign it. He doesn't want to be responsible for another shutdown because he knows it'll kill any chance of re-election.

The Great Negotiator failed miserably.

Thread Title: Trump should tell Congress to shove this bill up their _______

But he won't now will he?

He won't declare a National Emergency either. He will instead try to pull bits of money from here or there a little at a time using Executive Orders, hoping he can get away with that. Little bits of money from here and there a little at a time will allow him to maintain the ILLUSION that he actually ever intended to build this thing, to maintain the ILLUSION that he is still fighting and that is what he wants. He never wanted the Wall....but he does want the Wall Fight or at least the illusion of a Wall Fight.

The healthcare bill from Obama was considered yuge at 2,000 pages long, and that was to cover every single American with health insurance...not a small job.

Yet...a bill to answer the ask of 6 billion dollars, which is chump change by comparison, is 5,000 pages long....over twice the size?

Can someone explain this?

It's congress covering up their kicking the controversial can down the road so they don't have to act on it and possibly lose reelection for it. Term limits for all the bastards.

So...the language of this funding bill has been release. The actual funding legislation is over 5,000 pages, but here is a 29 page summary: Summary of Conference Appropriations Report | United States Government | U.S. Immigration And Customs Enforcement

Highlights:

Provides $1.375 billion, or $4.325 billion less than the $5.7 billion the Trump administration requested, for a very limited 55 miles of physical barrier that can only be placed along the southern border in *only* the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.

Contains language allowing only fencing designs in use as of 2017.

No funding for new border patrol agents above the current on board levels.

Does not fund the Administration's request for joint detention facilities.

No funding for additional enforcement and removal field personnel.

Summary of Negotiated Budget Appropriations W/ Limits on Border Security and No Funding for Border Agents or ICE Agents (full pdf)…. | The Last Refuge

Other highlights:

$415 million for humanitarian aide

$77 million for opioid equipment

1,200 new Customs and Border Patrol Agents (retain current levels)

The bill expands Catch and Release by reducing the number of border beds from 49,060 to 40,520.

No funding for additional enforcement and removal field personnel. - that means no more ICE agents to deport people already in the country.

Expands the Alternatives to Detention program from 82,000 to 100,000 - so instead of housing family units at the border- they get moved into the interior where they almost always stay in the country permanently.

Provides $40 million for additional ICE staffing dedicated to overall ATD (Alternatives to Detention) case management, particularly for asylum seekers - so no new ICE agents, but money to ICE to help illegal aliens settle in a non-detention center in the country.

The bill gives over $1 billion for the Smithsonian.

$3.4 billion in refugee assistance - $74 million more than last year.

$4.4 billion in international disaster assistance - $100 million more than last year.

Does not eliminate any foundations that Trump wanted to get rid of including: The Asia Foundation, the U.S. African Development Foundation, the Inter-American Foundation, and the U.S. Trade and Development Agency.

Israel, Ukraine, and Jordan receive $5.3 billion for border security fencing.

Thread by @RyanGirdusky: "Border wall bill is out, here are some highlights: here are the areas Trump cannot build any wall The bill gives $1.375 billion for construc […]"

Seriously? Congress will provide more money to Israel, Ukraine and Jordan for border barriers than they will to their own country???

Who the hell are these guys working for?

btw, that bollard fence design that's allowed? Pre-2017? That's the stuff that NBC says can be cut through with common household tools.

So tell me...after reading this ****...can ANYONE say that Congressional Dems and Reps care about securing our border?

You can say what you wrote in your headline, but you don't have to face 800,000 federal employees whose pay you'd cut if you didn't sign it, which, you know darn well, despite rhetoric to the contrary, you'd be responsible for and be rightfully blamed for.

Plenty of demorats also want to keep US wages low (to please "job creators" supplying campaign cash) by having loads of immigration (legal or not) and see immigration (legal or not) as the key to getting politically favorable demographic changes occurring more rapidly. The only major difference (by political party) is whether (how fast?) to offer these "illegal" immigrants citizenship so that more of them can vote.

Which no doubt is also the reason Puerto Rico is not allowed to be a state, notwithstanding all sorts of sordid things republicans do to suppress the vote.

The long and short of it is that republics do not like democracy much, well, because it tends to put them out of business.

Robin Williams would have been a far better president, he could have just used clips from MAN OF THE YEAR as campaign ads...

I knew it was gonna be a bad bill as soon as it was made clear there would be minimal time to read it before it needed to see signed into law before the shutdown occurs.

Trump needs to interrupt prime time television and inform the public what Congress is proposing, why he wont be signing it, what he will sign.

While he waits he should sign clean Bill's that only keep the Gov open but give none of them the pork belly spending they all depend on. He needs to starve them out.

He should also demand a full budget from them. No more of these ridiculous CRs to keep the Gov funded. He may want to also let them know that the budget is going to need to have include major cuts in both military and domestic spending because without border security being adequately addressed to his satisfaction the sequester will go into effect in December.

Again he should do this on national TV and then he should get on his plane and fly down to marlago where he can comfortably wait for Congress to get their **** together.

Trump will sign this into law since another "shutdown" would yield nothing better (but perhaps something worse). The Great Wall Of Trump (at least enough for a photo op) will "continue to" be built, we will continue to have catch and release, we will continue to lack an E-Verify mandate and we will continue to have 12M to 20M illegal immigrants inside the country with more arriving daily. MAGA indeed.

We the sheeple will also continue to re-elect "our" congress critters at a rate of over 90% in 2020 because they knew that keeping illegal immigration as "an issue" was the right (politically correct?) thing to do.
I wonder if that statistic might be affected in 2020. I know I've never been so keen to look at alternatives and new blood in Congress. I admit I was just re-electing people in the past, but there just might be a Trump effect when it comes to keeping people in Congress.

I seriously doubt it. The flipping of 40 House seats (less than a 10% turnover among the 435 House members) in 2018 was hailed as a "blue wave". If there is any "Trump effect" then it will likely benefit demorats since the republicants have added to the deficit/national debt and have failed to deal with rising medical care costs, the endless ME wars or illegal immigration.

OTOH, Democrats have shown themselves to be open border, illegal aliens over Americans, late-term abortion, socialists etc.

I do agree that Republicans have been useless and are more progressive than Republican. They utterly screwed up on healthcare and this budget deal.

I'll need to wait for a set of counter snips from a far left site to counter your far right links before I judge anything.

At first blush, the rightie extremists are outraged so it's probably more good than bad. These are the same folks that were screaming, "Pelosi caved" yesterday.

Yep, while having a batch of congress critters intent on keeping illegal immigration as "an issue".

Which, if true, is precisely has it works from the President’s end.

Israel, Ukraine, and Jordan are bordered by hostlie armed forces.

Other than that, I'm mostly in agreement with the proposals in this bill. Mostly.

The ACA was a specific law, only involving one issue, healthcare.

This is a budget measure, which covers spending on many things.

He totally should tell them to shove it, cause another shut down, and be thrown out in 2020 because it's obvious he cares little of the American People and more about his ego.

I don't see why you expect either party in congress to go along with his wall. Most Americans are against it and both parties know it would take many years to complete and tens of billions of dollars. Trump would be long gone before it came even close to being finished.

So what has master negotiator Trump offered the Dems or the GOP? It'd have to be pretty good to go against the will of the people, but as far as I'm aware it's been NOTHING, zero, zilch, nada. Trump obviously doesn't want the wall badly enough if he wasn't willing to sacrifice anything for it. Now there's less funding for the wall than was offered in December before his temper tantrum.

You've been duped by a conman that obviously doesn't really want this wall built.

But ... but ... but, we're already building Trump's border wall! It's almost finished!

"Finish the Wall! Who cares if Mexico won't pay for it!"

:2funny:

Trumpanzees are the most gullible sheeple in the country. Pathetic.

Oh its even worse than that. Think about it.

By the time this is over on Friday, the useless weakassed, unscrupulous, unprincipled POS in the WH will have allowed a couple of microphone jockeys to cause a 35 day partial government shutdown, longest in our history, about $11B of taxpayer debt and just to make sure we feel dumb as doorknobs for allowing this goon to make it to the WH, will have vetoed Government Contractors being reimbursed for the 5 weeks of pay they lost. He will have gotten NOTHING....NOTHING for that dumb Wall as on Dec 19th, he still had a GOP Majority in both House and Senate and the wheels greased to pass the CR that had been agreed to up till the microphone jockeys forced DonDon to heel.

Now, not only do guys like Putin and KJU and MBS get to pass DonDon between them. Ann Coulter and Rush are on the pass DonDon around schedule too. No wonder DonDon has so much executive time on his schedule. He appears to spend most of it bent over a desk wagging that fat butt of his, begging for an "invading member".
