really? Almost all of the stories were tying this couple's decision to take fish tank cleaner to Trumps declaration of hope that taking the medication will work.

The medication was in the news before Trump even mentioned it. I read about it while still in the office on the 13th (last day in the office for us) and how it showed promise, then Trump talked about the drug showing promise and he was hopeful it would work.

Happens all the time. The media will report something, Trump will talk about what was stated in the news, then the media will reports it's bad that Trump is talking about "it".

I.E. Back in February, the Washington Post was downplaying the Coronavirus and comparing it ot the flu. Trump makes similar statements, and the WP complains that Trump was downplaying the Coronavirus and comparing it to the flu.

The media clipping statements that Trump makes or taking statements out of context to change the meaning. I.E. CBS claiming Trump said that people with the virus should go to work. Which is not at all what he said.

But let's bring history into the discussion. When 9/11 happened, the "rally around the flag" lift that George W. Bush enjoyed was 35.4 points.

While Mr. Trump's "bounce" is most certainly underwhelming, one does have to keep in mind that the historical average "rebound" is a drop of only 12 points and Mr. Trump has a realistic chance of beating an 18 point drop. Unfortunately Mr. Trump has absolutely no chance of beating GW Bush's record topping 56 point drop (unless, of course, Mr. Trump manages to get his approval rating over 56% and it then drops to 0.0% at the end of his term. [ASIDE - Since you can generally get at least 10% of the respondents to give ANY response set out in a survey, the only realistic way in which Mr. Trump could surpass GW Bush would be for Mr. Trump's approval rating to rise to 66% or higher. Cows will give Bourbon before that happens.]
