Trump advocates for school reopenings: 'This thing is going away'

What is a " nice pace"
I don't know about you but with rates in some states going up and up I don't call it a " nice pace "
A " nice pace " would be zero cases not thousands
Have a nice day

He is part of the death cult and 1000 dying every day is what he calls a "nice pace". I guess 2000 deaths a day would be even nicer for him.

Your pic is just about what I think Trump and the Conservatives want
Trump has shown us he isn't really concerned with what the American people are going through all he is concerned with right now is trying to keep the low IQ people that is his base ignorant and happy so he can get reelected.
I don't ever think it will happen but some day I hope they see what is going on and smarten up
Have a nice evening

Schools, if you recall, are the main source of meals for millions of children. Will they now starve? Some people handle video learning well, others do not. Are you ok with putting those who dont at a greater disadvantage? Plus in a lot of households, both parents work while the kids are at school. No school means one of the parents has to stay home. I suspect most will be women, are you comfortable with the idea of women being forced out of the workplace?

Question. Schools have been closed for over 4 months. Did the kids starve?

Question: How have parents handled the situation the last 4 months?
- Are you saying both parents were out of work?
- What are the odds both parents will get called back to work at the same time.
-
You can "suspect" all you want that it may be the woman who stays home if schools are still not open. Pretty biased on your part. It should be a family decision on how to handle who goes back to work and who stays home.

- I know of couples who are in their 3's and 40's where one of the parents is a stay at home parent. Are you saying that should not happen?

So you want the schools open now. I believe the infection rate should be less than 5% to open the schools.

I think Trump wants the schools closed. That's why he said he wanted them open.If he said he wanted them closed the Dems would want them open. He's a genius.

More illogic from the gulf....

You didn't actually answer any of my questions, but so be it.

Quick says companies are reluctant to ramp up production dramatically if they are unsure of the market for the products. One solution, he adds, could be a promise by the federal government to buy tens of millions of tests, ....

Even if you're only talking about people testing themselves once per week, CA alone could easily go through "tens of millions of tests" every week. CA could probably pay for that just by raising teachers' retirement age from 55 to 56 (that's not a typo).

Even little old Arkansas could easily put up for a cool 100 million tests to use between now and when we have everyone vaccinated (if that ever happens).

But if this is so important, specifically using the Defense Production Act to speed up development and production of instant testing (assuming it's even possible), who in Washington is demanding that it happen?

I'm sorry. I expected a person on a political board to understand the term "ancap".

Anarcho-capitalism - Wikipedia

Too lazy to spell it out, aye. No, I was not aware of that abbreviation, and in a million years I wouldn't have guessed that your comment was related to that, given the fact that literally nothing I said had even a tangential relationship to it.

The fact that you (and probably others on this board) think that just goes to show how completely off the deep-end you have all gone.

How low does it have to go, in your expert opinion, before we can stop bankrupting hundreds of thousands of small businesses?

This massive spreading needs to stop and you know it. I think if we look at NY's current cases per day per million people that would be a good number to reopen schools but only if we have fast testing available for all school attendees. That bankrupting can only get worse if this keeps spreading at these levels no matter what we do.

The House relief bill has billions for testing and schools but the White House is opposed to new funds for testing and tracing. Trump does not want more tests and he has said that many times so forget denying it. As long as he is in office we have no chance of fixing the economy, safely opening schools or any semblance of a return to normal. It's nothing but a waiting game now and trying to staying alive until Biden takes office. If we were smart we would move up the election to Sept. 5th swear Biden in on Nov. 5th and put the $600 million in campaign money to Covid 19 relief. It is a waste of money when we really can't afford it.

Trump does have an uncanny ability to get everything he says and does wrong so doing the opposite of what he says he wants would not be far off. Good thinking.

The numbers in FL and TX were comparable to NY's in early to mid-June.

What "fast testing" are you talking about? Is that something that actually exists, or are you depending on our alien overlords to drop it in our laps?

It is critical for a couple of reasons that we get schools operating again at full capacity. The opposition to this is perplexing.

You literally didn't respond to a single thing I asked. You'll have to forgive me if I don't put much stock in a NYT article from nearly 3 weeks ago, for which there seems to be exactly zero follow up, and that cites as its sole source a "person familiar with the discussions [who] asked for anonymity to disclose private details of the talks" (i.e. too untrustworthy to be respect the confidentiality of a negotiation, and too cowardly and unprincipled to be identified).

The safety of having children attend school in person is directly tied to the protocol in place at the school itself. That protocol can determine the risk of a Covid-positive child entering the school, passing the disease to other children, carrying the disease home with him/her, etc..

Then, should a child test positive, quarantine and contract tracing comes into play. How well that works depends upon both the school and the parents.

It is not a simple situation in which opening schools is OK or not OK.

Regards, stay safe 'n well. Remember the Big 3: masks, hand washing and physical distancing.

Ultimately it's up to every individual to assess their own personal risk, but what comes into play with that decision is that it's not just the individual that affected; that's where the "hoax" aspect plays a big role in how risk is assessed. As I've stated in other threads, all school districts aren't equal so if you're in a low student population school then it might be easier to have onsite classes than those which are over crowded.

all three of my relatives are in "kinda" small schools. i'm guess the average between the 3 schools is ~ 800 kids per school.

When you compare that to let's say Brooklyn Tech in NYC which has almost 6k students, the problem becomes a bit trickier. Mind you, that's at the highest end of enrolled students, but the point is that school will have different challenges. A part of it is resources to help with distance learning where that makes sense, but then there's also other issues like special needs students and those without access to laptops/broadband that schools have to figure out.

Trump has been using a fast test in the Whitehouse for months. The testing we are now doing in the States is useless for reducing the spread because it takes a week or more for results. We need results in 24 hours or less to be useful for contact tracing or reopening schools. We need a "moon shot" style Federal effort to produce more fast tests and that is not happening. In fact the Whitehouse is objecting to money for tests and contact tracing in the new relief bill. We are going to have to wait until Biden is sworn in to get the help the States need to control the virus and reopen their economies.

Trump advocates for school reopenings: 'This thing is going away' | TheHill

President Trump on Wednesday continued to push for schools to physically reopen in the fall, asserting that the novel coronavirus is “going away.”

“My view is the schools should open. This thing is going away,” Trump said on “Fox & Friends” in a phone interview Wednesday morning, referring to the coronavirus. “It will go away like things go away and my view is that schools should be open.”

Cases have been falling over the past two weeks in some states that had experienced heavy outbreaks this summer, such as Florida, Texas and Arizona.

Florida, as one example, recorded more than 60,000 cases of the coronavirus last week. It is one of 24 states that recorded at least 5,000 cases last week. Texas recorded more than 57,000 cases, and Arizona recorded more than 16,000.

Cases also were rising last week in 21 other states.

Trump went on to assert falsely that children are “almost immune” from COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, adding that they have stronger immune systems than older individuals do with respect to the virus.

This guy is delusional, fixated on getting reelected.

What scientific basis has he for making this 'going away' claim? Did he study virology at Wharton?

Dr Rump has spoken. This is the same medical expert who has intercourse with a porn actress without a condom. Not that I give a fig about Trump, but Stormy should get an STD test after those 5 minutes of unsatisfied sex.

Oh boy. There's no test that takes a week for results. The only reason tests are taking that long is because of backlog.

You are mistaken. The tests now commonly used take more lab time than the "fast" tests which do nt require being sent to a lab at all/

The tests produce such quick results because samples aren't sent off to labs. Instead, they're inserted directly into a machine housed at a doctor's office or a hospital. The machine does the entire analysis, so instead of hours, it takes just minutes to get results — similar to rapid flu or strep tests used by most doctors.

COVID-19 tests: There'''s an insurmountable backlog of virus tests. A rapid test could help.

Yes tests the require hours of lab work will back up things real quick when we make 10's of 1000's of them a day. Instant tests do not require lab work.

Yes tests the require hours of lab work will back up things real quick when we make 10's of 1000's of them a day.

The current nucleic acid tests don't require hours of work. Each individual testing reaction requires probably less than 1 minute of a technician's time to set up (e.g. probably a total of 30 minutes bench time to set up a single 96-well run). The 2-3 hours' time is what it takes for the reactions to proceed (i.e. waiting time that the technician can use to set up the next batch of tests). The backlog is due to lack of sufficient facilities and trained personnel to do these tests, or in many cases, unwillingness to repurpose what we already have to do this.

With a single set up of basic research-lab type equipment that was available in the late-1990s, costing less than $5000 in total, a single technician could easily run 400 tests in a single workday. With pooling, that would allow testing 2000 people per day. Give the same technician access to 5 such setups, and/or modern automated equipment, and she could process close to 10,000 tests in a single day.

So basically, for the annual salary of one superfluous administrator, and a week or two to train a few unemployed bartenders, any university or school district could set up its own testing system sufficient to test all of its students almost every day, using the most sensitive techniques available. Hell, most large universities already have all this equipment and grad students who know how to use it times 50. We don't need a federal "Manhattan Project" to do this.

Instant tests do not require lab work.

Neither does waving a magic wand or looking into a crystal ball. The "instant tests" that are currently available, and the technology that exists today that could be used to create better ones, are not very sensitive or accurate.
