Assume it was done legally, using warrants. So what? If intelligence officials in the Obama administration then selectively leaked classified information which had been obtained through this warranted electronic eavesdropping to journalists, who then used it to tar Mr. Trump and his close associates by innuendo, those officials violated federal felony statutes. How would that hit you? Either that is what happened, or all those stories about improper contacts with Russia by this or that Trump associate that have appeared in various news outlets for all these months, invariably citing unidentified sources in U.S. intelligence agencies as their source, have been lies.

If it was done legally then evidence of probably cause of a crime was presented.

Again, so what? I don't care how legal any electronic surveillance of Mr. Trump's associates may have been. The intelligence officers who apparently leaked some of the confidential government information that surveillance gathered to reporters committed felonies by doing that. The agencies employing them are part of the Executive Branch, and at the time were finally responsible to President Obama.

But did this leaking of confidential information to the press really take place? If not, it is damned strange that for months we saw one news story after another about supposedly improper contacts between Russia and several Trump associates, story after story claiming unidentified U.S. intelligence officials as its source. And whichever intelligence officials leaked this information, which was obviously meant to slur Mr. Trump by innuendo, they did it on Mr. Obama's watch.

Trump is trying to get out front of news which he fears is going to come later - that some of his folk actually did collude with the Russians and there is evidence of it uncovered via taping. So this is his way of saying there is no excuse for taping his campaign and its verboten for any reason. Trump is the boss and all he has to do is request the recordings of the number and dates/times of calls by he or his associates when they were logged into Trump Tower visitor database.
