Tiger on Trump, The Reaction

Interesting development over the weekend. Some NYT reporter badgered Tiger on Trump.

Here's the scene. Tiger just finishes 72 holes. Tired, I am sure. And, instead of asking the man how he felt about his game or why he could not putt for ****, this douche starts asking him how he feels about Trump.

To his credit, Tiger did not take the bait. He answered the questions, but certainly not the way the reporter expected.

But, that's not quite what this thread is about. The real story is the reaction from some in the sports media.

Tiger Woods' 'respect the office' statement about Trump blasted by ESPN host Max Kellerman | Fox News

Dude, give it a rest. The man is entitled to his opinion. And, if he chooses to stay neutral, that's his business too.

Stephen A Smith went even further. 'Not Black', Stephen A Smith Says

Really? Come on now, Stephen A. Don't be a moron.

Personally, when it comes to the current occupant of the White House, I agree with LeBron James. "Trump is a bum." Do I want more people to call the man a bum? Yes. Do I think you're not Black or you're stupid for not calling him a bum? No.

Note: just so there is no confusion, there is a difference between supporting Trump and simply refusing to call him a bum. I don't want people thinking I suddenly love Trump supporters. What Tiger said in no way supports Trump.

OMG you finally wrote something worth reading, the point of which is pretty good. Did hit your head this morning?

You don't understand the left. Tiger is not entitled to his opinion even if he was white, but he is also not entitled to his opinion for another reason - he is black. All blacks must be anti Trump and vote for democrats or face the consequences. I sure Tiger will take a lot of ****, but he's got money and can weather the storm. No so much the poor schlub working two jobs to keep his family together.

Mr. Woods is African American and Asian.

Was it the African American Tiger or the Asian Tiger who spoke?

It was just weird. Guy just finishes professional golfing tournament, ask him about Trump. WTF?

I could see it if this was a long one on one interview; in a studio or at his home. But, the guy was literally walking off the course.

Almost all the left wing, especially the media, is all about Trump. Nothing else matters.

Thread is not about Obama. I know, I know, it's the common tactic to cry "but...but....but....Obama". But...but....but try to stay on target instead.
I never claimed it was about Obama because if it were you all would be attacking Kellerman and he would be umemployed.

The difference is Trump energizes part of his base by attacking blacks and other non-Whites, Obama never tried to energize his base using racism. So as usual it's all about the context. And as usual it goes "whoosh!" over some peoples heads in their rush to whataboutism.
Triggered much? I accurately point out that if tiger was asked about Obama and gave the same exact answer, Kellerman would of been branded a racist and fired. That's not whataboutism, it's an observation.

Let me clue you in on something else too that further illustrates how dumb your whataboutism claim is. The post isn't about Trump or Obama.

It's about a networks reaction to an anti-trumpers rant against a black man.

"I never claimed it was about Obama, but I keep bringing him up pretending that the situation would be different if it were Obama, but don't look at me for bringing up Obama even though I'm deflecting to Obama instead of dealing with the actual topic of the thread".

Obama, Obama, Obama

lol

How exactly is it logical?

I am sure by your opinion I am "da left" yet I still support Woods' opinion and even Kanye West. So yeah, "the left" doesn't just treat people a certain way, people treat people a certain way.

Sure they do. That's why we have a guy already writing that Woods isn't really black.

Tiger chose not to allow his sports celebrity to put him into divisive politics. He handled it fine.

Sorry. Tiger already lost most of his shine. Him palling around with Trump ain't about black or white. It's about the "we're rich and so it doesn't matter how scummy we are, we have to stick together" mentality.

Tiger Woods' Life Hasn't Been the Same Since His Cheating Scandal: All the Highs & Lows Leading Up to His DUI Arrest

But it was uncool to bring Trump up after a golf tournament.

I'm not here sticking up for the probity of Woods' sex life or any other part of his life.

Do you think before posting?

You have accused me of being "left" countless times, but yet here is this "lefty," by your own identification, who opposes the idea of criticizing Tiger for his honest answer to a stupid question asked at the very worst possible moment.

Man, you could not have failed harder if you tried.

So what? The left as a group follows predictable patterns. Just because you may not fit the pattern 100% of the time, doesn't change the pattern.

I find it interesting how some put so much emphasis on what some celebrity may say about an elected official. Doesn't matter if the celebrity is in sports or entertainment. For me personally, I could care less what a celebrity says about Trump. I form my own views.

Tiger handled the situation just fine. What he stated was his opinion.

What follows a distinct pattern is your posting style and content.

If you are going to quote people at least do it accurately.

Smith never said Tiger isn't black... that's what Tiger himself said!

I have never seen tiger with 1 black women. Tiger isnt a big race guy.

He'll be forced to come out and criticize the president. Watch.

Good. I do strive to be consistent. If liberals are upset by it, I'm succeeding.

Oh, you're consistent alright. And, not in a good way. For example, whining about the Left when the people you whine about being left (me, for example) are pointing out that ESPN going after Tiger over his Trump remarks is stupid.

Are you willing to donate $100 to Planned Parenthood of Black Live Matter if you are wrong?

I quoted directly off the headline.

And then the ESPN dude going off on it...I'm not watching ESPN for political commentary. Tell me why the Bears are awesome and the Cubs are going to win the World Series and move the flub on. Quit injecting politics into it. ESPN personalities are not political pundits, we have enough "news" networks for that. Sports networks just need to stick with sports.

ESPN's trying to get onboard the "Hate Trump/Conservatives" train because Hollyweird's doing it.....and it's been a massive failure. The ratings have plummeted and ESPN has become a joke.

The media decides to fish for another celeb's opinion about Trump.
Celeb doesn't say a nasty thing about Trump, so celeb becomes evil to the media.
To make things worse, an asshole claims "he isn't Black" because of it, stupidly dragging race into things.

What have we learned from this? The media has become disconnected with reality and is in desperate need of some sort of therapy.

Man, the left must really be conflicted all of a sudden. Here's a black guy, who must be supported by default because he's black, yet he signaled that he doesn't hate Trump. Will he now be relegated to the plantation with Ben Carson, Clarence Thomas and so many others?

He'll be declared a "House N word" or "Uncle Tom" by Black Democrat politicians, just like Tim Scott, Mia Love, Condi Rice and others were.

Let's play it your way. Kellerman only said what he said because he is a racist. He would never of talked to white golfer that way. He needs to be fired.
