I borrowed the title of a very old 1966 movie to announce the arrival of Russia's top spy, Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to the White House.

This will be Sergey Lavrov's second visit to the Oval Office, the first being in May, 2017 less than 24 hours after the firing of James Comey. There were no reporters from the American press there to witness the visit or take photos, they were all barred. Photos came from the Russian press. Tass photographer Alexandr Scherbak claimed that he covered the meeting as part of the Russian Foreign Ministry press pool. There was never a readout of what transpired in that meeting.

Originally (see the write ups on this Lavrov visit from a few weeks ago) Lavrov was only going to meet with Pompeo with a presser afterwards and a standard State Dept. read-out of what was discussed provided to the media.

But obviously a Russian official coming to D.C. got Trump drooling all over himself and he changed the itinerary. He can't thank the Russians enough for meddling in 2016!

I can only wonder if Trump will once again share classified information with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov like he did on May 15, 2017.

What's dangerous is the frivolous attitudes here about Russian interference in our government. By not addressing the threats of Russian interference and not having combined, coordinated efforts between all three branches of government working as one unit in this particular instance to thwart Russia's efforts to tear our government apart, then our government is in peril. If the core of our government is in jeopardy, so are all of us.

We have already seen Trump make changes to our foreign policies and prioritize Russia's interests over those of the United States. We've already seen our alliances in Europe weakened and the future of NATO in jeopardy. Russia’s and its growing international activism will have a significant impact on global security and the ability of the United States to advance its interests and protect its values.

People who scoff at the deep connections Trump has fostered with Russia are seeing something very different from what it appears to be on the surface. "We should be friends with Russia" is something I've heard dozens of times. Let me just run down the short list of what Russia's interests and intentions are.

Putin's plan is to:

Weaken American influence around the world.
Weaken the European Union
Get the U.S. out of NATO
Break up the American/EU alliance
Bring Russia back to prominence in the world
Destroy Hillary and Obama!(the ones whom place the sanctions on them)
Discredit Democracies throughout of the world
Bring, ult-right totalitarian governments to power throughout the world
Limit civil liberties and therefore weakening democracies
Strengthen relationships with China by implementing joint projects in fields of energy, industry and agriculture.
Expose the USA as a racist, corrupt government
Extend Russia’s Influence, in the Middle East and OPEC Nations.
Lifting of the US and EU sanctions
Repeal of the Magnitsky act.

Volodymyr Zelensky desperately wanted a White House meeting with Trump and has been trying to get this meeting since last May. Trump used the promise of a White House meeting with Zelensky as leverage over him. What Zelensky needs to prove to his people, and also to signal to Moscow, is that he has the trust and backing of Trump. Before a higher-level meeting could be arranged, the Trump White House wanted Zelensky to know that he needed “to start proving himself” and to demonstrate what “sort of leader he’s going to be.”

So, Zelensky, despite his efforts, has still not earned a meeting with Trump in the White House. But guess who did? Russia of course.
