It's called "whataboutism". If you point out their hypocrisy in ignoring the crimes of their own party as they complain about the other guys, you'll hear "but, but whataboutism" as if nothing their guys did ever mattered.

Don't fall for it, it's just another way to stifle free speech and debate. You can be rest assured that the next time they are on the hook for anything they will be saying "what about Trump?" and won't even acknowledge that they ever started the "whataboutism" thing.

Just to recap what's happening here. Someone starts a thread about Trump doing X:

Liberal: Can you believe Trump did X?
Trump Apologist: BUT HILLARY CLINTON'S EMAILS!!!
Liberal: The topic is Trump and subject X, can you defend that behavior and not try to just distract with Hillary Clinton?

Itsjustme: Can you believe these filthy liberals? Complaining that we keep changing the subject from Trump to Hillary in a thread about Trump, hypocrites!

Maybe if you actually addressed the legitimate complaints against Trump in threads about Trump instead of derailing it into a conversation about Hillary, we wouldn't call you out for whataboutism. Also, other Americans criticizing you for not being able to stay on topic is not "stifling free speech". You need to reread the constitution, hotshot.

We just got done with 8 years of "It's Bush's fault" and "But Bush did it too...and worse".

So...why not 8 years of "Obama". At least we actually have some corrupt Obama stuff to talk about.

The right wing has very few arrows in their quiver to defend Trump with and so they are loath to give up this one that they have glommed onto like grim death.

Sorry Trump apologists - whataboutism is NOT an intellectual argument because at its core is the basic idea of two wrongs do not make a right. Pointing out that a previous democrat did something that might be passing similar years ago is NOT an argument for defending the current actions of Trump.

Oh the farce is strong with some Trumpers...

Alternate facts and suspending reality seems to be part and parcel of the Trumper laments.

Whataboutism is an attempt to distract from the current occupant of the White House and his dysfunctional staff. If it was a drinking game- a shot for every staffer who has to resign/fired- we'd pass out...

Whataboutism is attempting to derail threads by saying what about- some dem politician when the subject is the current administration.

But it's typical rabid right ranting, always blaming the other guy for doing what they started in the first place... :peace

There are no legitimate complaints, if you discount the people who just don't like the cut of Trump's jib, what's left are crybaby complaints with no basis in fact.

I never said that other Americans trying to shut you up for talking about the faults of their guys was a constitutional problem, I am saying it's an honesty problem.

Defend him from what?

I am more concerned with Russian interference in the mid terms. I am also concerned as the current Pres does not seem to accept the fact of Russian meddling. Trump is negligent as our the GOP by enabling his refusal for additional sanctions. What has Trump done to prevent future interference ? Get off the liberal hate, its the Russians tearing our democracy down.

I don't accept the "fact" of Russian meddling, beyond the meddling they have always done, everywhere. Were you this concerned when Obama tried to meddle in Israel's election?

The Russians aren't tearing democracy down, but some of the people in this thread would like to.

What the hell are you talking about?

Given your original post, trying to claim your use of whataboutism didn't happen but people trying to keep the topic going are whatabouting it I don't doubt you are as clueless about my reply as you are about the true whataboutism you engage in.... :peace

I don't think you understood the OP but thanks for playing.

What does Obama have to do with the 2016 election. So the average Russian meddling is acceptable to you when a Republican benefits from said interfetence?

American Conservatives and other Republicans have for years expressed their admiration of Vladimir Putin. They have made clear over many years they want the USA to be more like Putin's Russia than the other way around. Now that youse have your KO and deliverance in the WH youse haven't ever been closer -- on the cusp. Youse still have a long way to go however. Less than a year. Given too many Americans continue to trust in the Constitution and to take it seriously you will fail.

oh yes I did, you attempt to cover your whataboutism by claiming you weren't doing it by trying to point out Dem politicians behaving badly in response to the discussion on Team Trump's slow bleed of bodies...

Nice try but no CEE-gar... :peace

That's not "whataboutism", that's a symptom of "leftrightism".

Ya'mean when some Dems resigned over sex harassment and then said "what about Trump?" Don't fall for that?

Stating that Hillary or Obama did something is not a valid excuse for Trump doing it. Unless you subscribe to the juvenile theory of "But mommy, he did it tooooooooo" whining and crying.
