The Best Show We'll Never See on TV Again...

You completely missed the point.

Yes we have "drag shows." Who watches them? People in drag, people who like drag, and some curiosity seekers. Most people don't or won't.

Yes we have "pop star" shows. Who watches them? Pop star fans, and some curiosity seekers. Most people don't or won't.

Yes, we have "soft pornography?" Who watches them? People titillated by porn, kids who are curious to see what's up, and curiosity seekers. Most people don't, or won't.

Yes, we have all those new "diverse, inclusive, etc." versions of Star Wars, Star trek, etc.. Who watches them? People who think that stuff is "keen," and curiosity seekers. But real Sci-Fi fans hate the new stuff for being too preachy, and most other people don't or won't.

All in the Family drew viewers from every segment of America; racist, sexist, Black, White, Leftist, Conservative, ding-bat, and intellectual. It "fooled" people into thinking they could identify with some member of the cast...and it lured them into ways of thinking they would otherwise never encounter hidden behind those caricatures like Archie, the Meathead, etc.

You just see the show in the worldview of your generation...I can't fault you for that. But you really show amazing naivete with your rant.

There you go again. Us VS Them. You VS Me. I am not into pop stars, drag queens or soft porn (I watch other porn) and I still watched or at least tried out most of those shows. The real scifi fans??? WTF is that??? You mean people your age right? I can't be a real scifi fan?? Give me a break. You're acting like there are never these types of people on TV, when it's clear that you haven't even looked.

Oh forgive me for liking the shows that I like. I think this thread is one big projection. Millions watched All in the Family because that's all there was! Now we have 20 different All in the Families all catered to different groups. One isn't better than the other. Just one group insists that it's the greatest thing ever. "There will never again be a show like it on TV." Please there's been countless of shows with dynamic duos that's talked about politics. Maybe fewer have featured angry white guys but who knows? I haven't been around for forty years to watch it all, but I'm excited for the future of TV. It's far from dead.

What makes you guys on the Right appear incredibly stupid is that so many of you are convinced that Leftists killed off Roseanne because of her politics, when it was the fact that she was a bat **** crazy asshole that did her in.

And that all their heroes are actors or better yet characters: Archie Bunker, Ronald Reagan, Donald Trump, Sean Hannity.

While I agree current tv is far from dead and there is a lot of great stuff on I don't know that there is a show like all in the family currently. A show where the lead character is an open racist and bigot. SNL does a lot of parody and other sketch shows certainly do that but not one character in a long running series. But there is so much on now maybe I have just missed it

All In The Family was a revolutionary show that set new standards, much like the Sopranos did at the turn of the millennium.

What made Archie and Mike the perfect duo, was that it showed their worlds weren't nearly as far apart as they perceived them. They were both excellent at showing the others hypocrisy. That often resulted in heated fireworks, but it also forced them to question the foundations of what they believed about the world, which helped make them better people.

Bravo! Well said.

Leftism sucks? :lamo
Carroll O'Connor and Sherman Hemsley were HUGE liberals.

There's a big difference between liberalism and leftism.
Liberals are for freedoms, today's leftists want to control speech that offends them.

You'd do well to read Kirsten Power's The Silencing--How the LEFT is Killing Free Speech.

Somebody always has to spoil it

You'd do well to stop pretending that everyone you disagree with is a leftist.
You guys don't realize that you've worn the term out.
Every single time I see you yammering on DP, leftist this, leftist that, it's like The Brady Bunch and "Marcia Marcia Marcia".
You're as bad a John Bircher...you're suffering from some kind of Leftist Derangement Syndrome.

Leftists are Marxists or Communists, and there just aren't very many of those, you need to stop exaggerating.

He ever make it out to rockaway?

ALL OVER ROCKAWAY.
Rockaway, Lawrence, Cedarhurst, Lido Beach, Jones Beach, Atlantic Beach, Queens, Staten Island, Jamaica, Kew Gardens, Richmond Hill, Woodmere, Long Beach, I've lost count...

Here's a couple of typical beachside homes from the 1940's.

Goddamn I miss Atlantic Beach, my second childhood home.
I gotta make it out there again real soon, it was such an idyllic time and the place has not changed all that much and I still know a ton of the folks who live there...I was back there about five years ago and it felt just like being home again, even after all this time.
A couple of people even recognized me, so hilarious.

"Ey...aren't you Albina's kid from Maryland? Yeah, the mouth from the South, how you doin? You're an old man now!"

Yeah he made the one I grew up in probably. It was pretty new in the fifties when my parents bought it. A lot of people don't understand that you could be a New York City kid and grew up on the beach. I never wore shoes all summer. I lived on the beach

It seems like we have gone backwards... Leftism sucks.

Oh, it's not about leftism. It's about dumbing down TV so nobody gets left behind; once everyone had a remote control the advertisers didnt want anyone saying, "What the hell...?" Click. Leftism, in fact, drove the train while all those 'intelligent' tv shows were being produced. Are you familiar with 'All In The Family'? Do you really not see the distinct left bias in the basic premise and the daily production?

It doesn't matter to them that shows like All in the Family or Roseanne featured gay TV characters or black characters or strong woman. As long as they can relate to one of the characters then it becomes an instant hit on their side. I've even had some old school Star Trek fans tell me that the new stuff is way too progressive to be considered "Star Trek". Just Lib PC Crap. Uh Hello? That's exactly what Star Trek was when it first came out in the 60s!!!!!!! Way before All in the Family might I add

Of course it drew viewers from every segment, there were only three channels on TV.

All in the Family is a fantastic show, one I still run through every now and then. "Dear Mr. President, Your Honor, Sir" still cracks me up every time I think about it. And there is absolutely no doubt that it was monumental in TV history.

But to claim there's no shows like it today? That's just nonsense. What made it revolutionary was not so much the content, but the fact that content hadn't previously been seen on network television. Hell, if I recall correctly, it was the first show to ever feature a bathroom toilet flush. But so much of what made that show revolutionary and transformative is that it broke down barriers...barriers which no longer exist today and are regularly explored.

Whether someone watches or not is irrelevant. All in the Family cannot be replicated because the boundaries have already been pushed. It doesn't change the fact the show is absolutely fabulous. But to lament that something has been lost is just nonsense.

Beta and VHS was a godsend. My granny once owned a video store so I got to watch a ton of movies as a kid for free.

Oh and there's tons of revolutionary shows- The Sopranos changed everything- now we have bad guys as good guys and its great entertainment.

I see some claiming there are great comedy shows like AITF out there today, yet not one of them has been named...weird...

No where did I say or do I believe everyone I disagree with is a leftist. My point is that there is a big difference between liberalism and leftism. Leftists are more than Marxists and Communists. Stop deluding yourself.

Also, cease with the silly lecture, and read what I wrote and not the imaginary letters on your monitor.
After that, go take a chill pill.

Barney Miller was all about ethnic stereotypes...and funny as hell!

Sanford and Son? I can't imagine that being produced today.

Good Times? Today it would be blasted as being too soft on race and poverty.

The Honeymooners? Total misogyny

Bewitched? Treats witches unfairly

Pretty much every Bugs Bunny episode would be banned because of racism, sexism and promoting gun violence

Charlie Chan? Totally stereotyped Asians

Benny Hill? They'd throw him in jail

People didn't take themselves so seriously. So they were able to laugh at themselves and others at the same time. Losing that in the quest for PC and safe spaces is a bad thing.

MASH was political and on top of that, sexist and anti war, and anti economic class. I remember a series of best selling books. Truly Tasteless Jokes. Every joke was ethnic and offensive. And were labelled as such. I enjoyed them all. As we're talking about extremely popular shows, I guess most people did.

Now all we have are the mundane, "vanilla" type shows...

Careful, Vanilla is white. I'm not sure you can say vanilla in this context any longer.

Hey, I'm white and I'll be the 1st to admit vanilla is boring...:2razz:

Um...Meathead. Meatloaf was the guy with the Bat out of Hell album.

And...for the record, a lot of people were TAKEN IN by Meatloaf's rags to riches story of a big hearted big man who sang his way out of the working man's blues, only to find out that he's really another bat **** crazy prima donna whose personality is so caustic that even his own writing partner and piano man Jim Steinman won't have anything further to do with him.

Even my own wife considered "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" to be one of "our songs" for the first fifteen years of our marriage, until she saw his true personality come out in a reality TV show. She took down the giant Meatloaf poster that adorned our bedroom wall and she hasn't listened to his music since.

It's not his politics, it's the fact that he's insane, and a big jerk.

Well, that wasn't exactly Paul Harvey, but now, at least, we know the rest of the story. Thanks for sharing.

No where did I say or do I believe everyone I disagree with is a leftist.

You don't have to, you didn't have to, you've never had to.
It's what you do, it's what most conservatives on this forum do.

And there are exceptions to that rule.
And when those exceptional conservatives, who a lot of members respect, show up, you do the same thing to them.
It's one of the reasons you get called out so much.
Haven't you ever wondered about that, or did you think it was part of the deep state?

I'm fully aware of the overly PC ultra Left, it's why I enjoy Bill Maher.
