You completely missed the point.
Yes we have "drag shows." Who watches them? People in drag, people who like drag, and some curiosity seekers. Most people don't or won't.
Yes we have "pop star" shows. Who watches them? Pop star fans, and some curiosity seekers. Most people don't or won't.
Yes, we have "soft pornography?" Who watches them? People titillated by porn, kids who are curious to see what's up, and curiosity seekers. Most people don't, or won't.
Yes, we have all those new "diverse, inclusive, etc." versions of Star Wars, Star trek, etc.. Who watches them? People who think that stuff is "keen," and curiosity seekers. But real Sci-Fi fans hate the new stuff for being too preachy, and most other people don't or won't.
All in the Family drew viewers from every segment of America; racist, sexist, Black, White, Leftist, Conservative, ding-bat, and intellectual. It "fooled" people into thinking they could identify with some member of the cast...and it lured them into ways of thinking they would otherwise never encounter hidden behind those caricatures like Archie, the Meathead, etc.
You just see the show in the worldview of your generation...I can't fault you for that. But you really show amazing naivete with your rant.
There you go again. Us VS Them. You VS Me. I am not into pop stars, drag queens or soft porn (I watch other porn) and I still watched or at least tried out most of those shows. The real scifi fans??? WTF is that??? You mean people your age right? I can't be a real scifi fan?? Give me a break. You're acting like there are never these types of people on TV, when it's clear that you haven't even looked.
Oh forgive me for liking the shows that I like. I think this thread is one big projection. Millions watched All in the Family because that's all there was! Now we have 20 different All in the Families all catered to different groups. One isn't better than the other. Just one group insists that it's the greatest thing ever. "There will never again be a show like it on TV." Please there's been countless of shows with dynamic duos that's talked about politics. Maybe fewer have featured angry white guys but who knows? I haven't been around for forty years to watch it all, but I'm excited for the future of TV. It's far from dead.
