Well, the result will very much remain to be seen. But we've seen the polls move sharply against Trump with the announcement of the impeachment inquiry, so it might indeed work. He doesn't have to be removed by the Senate, you know. Losing the election will be removal enough, if it occurs.

In this country, if you are accused of a crime, you are required to present your evidence to the accused. Its called discovery. And yes, they have a right to prepare a proper defense.

If your Impeaching a president, you present your evidence to the House to vote on an Impeachment Inquiry.

If you are investigating someone looking for a crime, thats a crime.

'Discovery for trial' happens long after an indictment is issued and formalized. This is an investigation to determine whether to indict, and investigations do not come with 'discovery'. There is no right to due process. No defense council is present while interviews are being conducted, no right to face one's accuser , no right to ask witnesses questionz while sitting a police interrogation room. Once the indictment is unsealed, and pretrial motions are made, that is when a discovery motion is filed. When the Senate takes up the articles of impeachment, they will provide for discovery, and some semblance of due process as both sides prepare. Its absurd to think Donald trump deserves more due process, or earlier application of due process for charges that may get him fired from his job, than someone else gets for a capital crime or a 25 year sentence in Stateville.

A right to due process exists when life, liberty or property may be taken by govt. This guy might lose his paycheck, access to Camp David, or free fare on Airforce One. Not the same.
