The 2018 Major Leage Baseball Thread

Rizzo has always prioritized starting pitching. That said, yes, the Nats need help at catcher.

Who’d you get for Gio? Grace should be a 5-inning starter in front of Max or another rightie SP. Even the Nats could trend that way.

With the new trend to short-inning starters, just start a good reliever and get 3 or 4 from your real starter up next so he can get the win without going 5 innings, not a ND.

Prospects for Gio. None exceptional so far as I know. It was a salary dump and he had worn out his welcome by inconsistency.

I had no idea Willie was that old. He was still playing when I was almost 20. He must have played into his forties.

Willie was the 1st batter I remember seeing the defense put a shift on against. I'm sure there were shifts before and on other batters, but Willie was the 1st I remember seeing.

[h=1]Report: Nats ownership vetoed Harper-to-Astros[/h]The proposed deal would have sent three minor league Astros prospects to the Nationals in exchange for Bryce Harper, The Athletic reported Saturday.

Harper on the Astros would have been awesome. It might have forced Boston to at least break a sweat during this year's playoffs.

The Seattle Mariners have just entered the firestorm.

Expect massive protests if this does not get resolved.

Wow

Fourth round.

Yep, like I said a crappy pick. They would have done better trading him to the Astros for the 3 minor leaguers.. He may sign again with the Nats, BUT he already did turn down a huge contract offer from them. So that's probably a less than 50-50 chance he resigns.

And if he wanted to stay with the Nats they could have pulled off a Chapman type deal like the Yankees did. Trade Harper for the prospects, then when he goes on the FA market the Nats resign Harper this off-season. Then they get Harper AND the 3 prospects.

If he walks away from the Nats now, they don't get him or the prospects. The Nats don't look good.

1. I won't fault them for not dealing at the deadline. They were close enough, and there was enough season left, that it was not ridiculous to try one more push.
2. Nats will be fine with or without Harper. Rizzo has planned for this.

I'm not saying the Nats will be fine, or not fine without him.

I'm saying 3 prospects vs. a 4th round pick. BIG difference.
