Supreme Court refuses to hear challenge to U.S. gun silencer law

*LOL* What about if the North Korean 12th Airborne Division gets dropped in and joins the fight.... well, then I guess I'm ****ed. Can't win'em all.

I think the odds of an extended engagement are much higher.

Aurora clown-boy still got 65 of the 100 rounds off before it jammed, though.

Exactly... the only mag-fed handgun I own is my Lugar - and I've never felt the need for more than the 8 her magazine holds. I was always more a revolver guy anyway.

Revolvers for me as well. I inherited autos. I have one unique pistol that might be one of the worst for self defense.... A Remington rolling block replica in 357.

I suspect the pros treat them well and have them prepped... Not something the wannabe Rambo would do.

yeah, my son has one, he takes it apart and make sure its cleaned and oiled. But most of those super extended rigs fail. I have seen some good 3G pros run a Beta-C mag for an AR-I never did-I run 30 round Lancers which are completely reliable. I do run a 33 Round Factory Glock G-18 with Taran Butler extensions on my lead star PCC race gun for steel and it works (41 rounders). However, for mandatory reloads, I run standard G-17 mags with Arrendondo mag couplers (so I only have to grab one mag to do the reload.

Is that a Stuttgart thing? I heard about some stuff over in Germany.

I don't recall 50 miles myself. Not at once.

Closer to Nuremberg. The pace was so high because I was subbing for a Green Beret radio guy who broke his ankle. Truth be told, I think they were going easy on me... but they were the ones who turned me onto Corcorans. There are boots and then there BOOTS. *L* I've sworn by'em ever since.

Cocorans are kinda cheater. Yes, I used them sometimes.

*L* Actually, that one might not be too bad in a close-quarters fight.... nothing like a good pistol-whipping to get someone's attention.

*LOL* On a 50 mile hump lugging a PRC and gear on my back, I'll take any cheaters I can get my feet into.

I don't think they still have PRCs. Those things were horrendous. I think Cocorans were authorized during my enlistment, if I recall. We musta both been 90s? I was 90-95.

'89 to '94 for me. I arrived in Germany just before the Wall came down. They sent me to Germany and the Cold War ended... a year and a bit later they put me on 24-hour alert to go to the Gulf and Saddam threw in the towel. Must have heard I was coming. *L*

"Forced march", "road march", whatever. Those terms might impress civilians.

30 miles ain't ****. We'd do that after a night jump and set a morning ambush.

Graduating infantry school requires a 30 miles. And those aren't even soldiers yet.

The 82nd is more elite than standard marines. They're legs. Marine recon maybe.

Again, with what load and at what time?

I have a feeling that the Marines who graduate from the Marines Infantry school will challenge your claim. Recon Marines, is a different league on their own and should be compared to more specialized units. I think these guys are closer to SAS, SEALS and basically the cream of the military forces . I recall when our Greek SEALS were going through the same parachute school like us, they (only four of them) were miles ahead in whatever we did. If I ran the mile in under 6 minutes (which was considered a quite good time among my mates), they were completing the same distance in less than 5 minutes! One did it in 4:30 which was more closer to the performance of an athlete. They often made you feel like you were a soldier with some disability or something...

you have yet to come up with one legitimate reason for you posting your opinions other than you want to. Your standard is idiotic in a free society.

And you still have not given me one good reason why silencers should be sold privately other than people want to buy them. And the only objection you have to posting my opinions is that you personally don't like them. Not to mention that God forbid that you should sit in judgement of anyone else's standards. Because the only thing you can truly say about standards is that you are lacking in them.

While I'm sure that was a factor, I think also Saddam heard I was in jump school.

I don't think any marine would claim a standard marine is more elite than the 82nd.

But I'm not here to troll my guys. I'm here to thump an anti gun Euro.

I was talking about the standard INFANTRY Marine who finishes their Infantry school. I am not talking about any other "standard" Marine of other arms or services.

Name one.

Sure!

Take the distance in which a person of certain shooting skills, actually barely makes it and hits the head of the target (even though he aims at the torso) In fact, this was the result of my first experience with a pistol. And if the argument is that other than a complete novice, as I was at that time, a barely skilled person can achieve better results (which is debatable in real life situations), there will ALWAYS be a certain value of range in which any person of a certain skill will be challenged to strike a target. For such (or longer) distances a very small reduction in recoil can make the difference between killing or missing the target.

Me too. You ask 'em.

It's not about recoil it's about sight picture.

It's not about recoil it's about sight picture.

It is about many things, including recoil. With the EXACT same conditions at certain challenging distances ( which depend on the skill of the shooter) a stronger recoil will bring worse results, especially in rapid fire situations which is often the case with mass shootings! Of course, again scenarios can vary depending on how big is the crowd. A bigger spread in some cases may still not make much difference if the crowd density is such that there is no need to be very accurate in order to be deadly. But it does not make sense to believe that recoil never matters!

I expect a better sight picture with reduced flash (and even noise), but I'm gonna defer to Turtle. I don't have much pistol experience.

We DID!

Unless they were bragging by lying, their claim was that they had the tougher forced marches!

Everyone has the toughest forced marches. That doesn't make a unit elite. I'd put infantry marines with 10th Mountain. Somewhat elite.

Sure!

But the principle holds at other calibers also. The difference maybe smaller but even such small difference can be the difference between hitting a target or not.
I take it that you have never shot a handgun with a suppressor on it. They are more cumbersome and more difficult to conceal. And unless you have suppressor sites on most guns they are more difficult to accurately aim. I'd rather shot a handgun without a suppressor than one with one.

Okay!

By the way, as I said, there is no reason to restrict the conversation to pistols only since rifles are used very often for mass shootings.

Can you (or anybody else) explain to me why the site I posted says things like,

With all of that, both of these cartridges can be accurate rounds within 100 yards. Just taking a position from the numbers we have, there is not going to be any significant advantages or disadvantages between these cartridges at close range. The 7.62×39 does have slightly more recoil energy than the 5.56×45, and this could impact quick shots in succession being accurate.
