Should it be legal to pay surrogates to have babies for you and your significant other?

Should paid surrogacy be legal?

You make yourself an incubator. Instead of growing your own children, you sell your body for another person's benefit.

All our paid labor is for another person's benefit...yet we also get compensation. It's your rather crass opinion describing a woman gestating as an incubator. It's dehumanizing. But it's no different from her gestating her own kids. Just because her labors are for $$ doesnt mean it's degrading. Gestation is not degrading.

Unless all our labors for a decent wage are? Are they? Otherwise this seems just like your personal opinion on how you perceive women and our bodily sovereignty. In which case, I'd like to know how or why you are entitled to object to something that does not affect you in the least but is the personal liberty...to be respected...of women?

PS...and this wouldnt prevent her from gestating her own kids before or after.

"Yes, it should be legal but with exceptions (explain)" - Ugly people

Because it keeps them out of a bad situation. It's not a solution to their poverty, and it's not intended to be. At the same time, I don't think you would call surrogate motherhood a solution to poverty.

Nobody is saying that it's an ideal way to keep people out of poverty. But least they have an additional option.

I don't know all of the details on this, but I believe some states allow it. New York state government has proposed a bill to make it legal in their state. What say you? Should paid surrogacy be legal or illegal?

It should absolutely be illegal. IVF in general, and surrogacy in particular, are against the natural order (to say nothing of the inherent risk to human life involved in the former). It is also, as others have mentioned, a form of exploitation of the poor.

All medical treatment is against the 'natural order.' No more treatments for cancer? No more flying in airplanes, pacemakers for hearts, using birth control, air conditioning, etc etc etc.

But what's important here, is that even tho that is YOUR belief...no one is stopping you from avoiding a lifestyle that is 'against the natural order.' And even more important...that you cannot force your belief in that 'natural order' on others that dont believe the same.
