Senate rejects Trump border emergency as Republicans defect

American conservatives? American Conservatives are part of the greatest country on the face of the earth and there isn't a socialist country on earth even close to what this country has created. Your desire to make it into a European so called Democratic Socialist economy speaks volumes about you and your inability to compete in a private sector economy and belief that someone else should fund your personal responsibility issues. My beliefs have been established by great parents who taught me personal responsibility as well as the fact that there are consequences for choices made, good and bad. In your world there are only excuses and bad choices are to be corrected by someone else

Spending in the name of compassion is what socialists propose never holding bureaucrats responsible for bad results but certainly making themselves feel good and never holding anyone responsible for poor choices made

I'm not convinced anymore that the United States is the "greatest country on the face of the earth", I'm only convinced the conservatives push their narrative that it is. This country used to be one of the best places to live on earth, not anymore. People are fleeing the U.S. and nobody is talking about this because god-forbid anyone should want to get out of this country, not in. Does anyone know that there's 8.6 million Americans that are ex-pats and living overseas? Many went overseas for jobs, some went to other countries as retirees, and some just left because they didn't agree with Trump's politics or where he's taking our country.

But the U.S. can proudly boast of a few things in which it holds the #1 position in the world such as; the number of incarcerated (jailed or imprisoned) citizens per capita, defense spending and the number of adults who believe angels are real and the earth is flat.

In everything else;

So what year would you say that you believe this country was the greatest place on earth? Wonder if the change has anything to do with outcome based education, the entitlement mentality, massive gov't spending on social programs creating dependence, Unions protecting unqualified teachers, unemployment insurance increases? So what exactly is the conservative narrative that changed all those problems? You are blinded by a failed liberal ideology that promises that the federal gov't will solve all your personal problems and social needs. Personal responsibility doesn't exist in the liberal world today

aw yes, another la liberal who ignores what is going on in one's home state with regard to illegals and wanting to promote those values everywhere else. Why would anyone want californians and in particular la, sf, and san diego liberals electing the president of the u.s. Simply because of population?

Why is it you have so much trouble understanding actual results generated, nato is stronger now because of member nations meeting their financial obligations, america stronger because of our economic growth and military, and a president that has restored credibility that america will enforce red lines in the sand leaving our enemies wondering what trump would do. I feel safer with trump in the wh than any time during the obama administration. The real problem with you people is putting america first destroys your global goals and desires

halp!!! Teh socialismz & georg soros izz trying ta cunvurt us to teh new world odor!!1!!

The United States has to turn around our multi-faceted social crisis before it can once again be 'the best country in the world'. This country needs to take a step back and confront the rising inequality, corruption, isolation, and distrust rather than focusing exclusively or even mainly on economic growth. Once conservatives quit griping about 'hand-outs' and 'entitlements' and actually focus on what the root problems are, then maybe the U.S. can become great again. Until then, it's not.

I see your opinion but no answer to the questions posed. What is it about liberals who cannot or will not answer direct questions and only want to spout their personal opinions and pass them off as factual. Answer the questions posed, what are you afraid of?

Aw yes, another LA liberal who ignores what is going on in one's home state with regard to illegals and wanting to promote those values everywhere else. why would anyone want Californians and in particular LA, SF, and San Diego liberals electing the President of the U.S. simply because of population?

Defence experts in Europe, Australia and Canada disagree with your opinion on increased strength for NATO.

There has been little change in American military strengh at this time. Yes, tRump and the GOP plan to spend more money on the defense department but that hasn't happened yet. It takes time, years for new equipment to come online. Then there is the fact that the president's executive order moving funds from the military to his dream of a border wall is not helping grow America's military. Many people feel less safe with tRump in the White House simply because he has shown himself to be a self-absorbed 'expert' who refuses to listen to those who actually know something about the world and a man with a tendency to impulsive behaviour. For instance - Saturday, tRump cancelled new sanctions on North Korea which had been announced on Friday by the State Department because he felt sanctions already in place were working just fine.

Your state (California) is a fricken disaster and it does appear that you fit right into this ideology
California is "a fricken disaster"?? Hmmm, I wonder why California accounted for nearly three-quarters of US jobs added in February

As for February, LOL, how many jobs were created in February? Amazing how California can lead the nation in poverty, homeless, have among the highest cost of living, lowest quality of life, largest wage gap and still be consider not a fiscal disaster by you. Shows how poorly informed and how indoctrinated you are

Apparently you failed to read the following in the WaPost article: "alliance members increased defense spending in 2018 for the fourth year in a row". Who was president three years ago, four years ago?

Yes, California does have the highest poverty rate in the nation, tied with Florida and Louisiana, when housing and medical costs are included. Under the Census Bureau's standard, California's poverty rate is 13.4% which is not the highest in the nation. Mississippi takes the top spot at 19.8%

The obviously is a loyalty to liberalism, why? Your claim is that NATO is weaker thanks to Trump, that is a leftwing lie and just wishful thinking because America's failure is a win for you and your ideology whatever that win means.

So now you want to compare California with Mississippi and Louisiana? LOL, a state with among the highest GDP in the world with the largest wage gap and none of that success getting to the people you claim you want to support. Typical liberal arrogance and excuse making

It looks like you have a peculiar view of the world and any words which provide contradiction either don't exist or some other person made the claim which you now reject. Odd.

Why are you laughing out loud at poor job growth in America? I seem to recall numerous posts extolling the fantastic increase in jobs since your Chosen One became president. Increasing tariffs on imported products just might be having some unintended consequences.

Yeah, funny how cutting taxes on the wealthiest individuals and corporations doesn't seem to be producing the results claimed by those who are ignorant of history. California is not perfect, it does better in things and not so good in others. I am not comparing California to Mississippi and Louisiana soley because the two Southern states are so dirt poor but just providing an example that the old adage is still true. There are three kinds of lies: Lies, Damned Lies and Statistics

I quite frankly don't give a damn what you think and will stick to the data, 5 million new jobs created since Trump took office, NATO members upping their contributions per their requirement, people keeping more of what they earn, US GDP up 2 trillion dollars in two years but keep promoting that leftwing socialist ideology and keep losing national elections

Your hatred of Trump, ignorance of the private sector as well as the official data speaks volumes about you and your ideology.

Your adulation of Trump, ignorance of the negative effects on international relations, as well as the decreasing respect for America, speaks volumes about you and your ideology.

Yes, the job growth rate has been good until the past couple of months, which is why I find it notable that California's jobs increased at a much faster rate than the rest of the nation in February. Why has the stock market stalled for the past couple months? Why are investors starting to worry about recession?

And you are blinded to the reality of how great this country is and always will be. I find it stunning that your continued ignorance of data and focus on February ignores the state leading the nation in poverty, homelessness, has the lowest quality of life, among the highest cost of living, violates federal immigration laws, has among the greatest wage gaps, has a majority of the top 10 cities with the worst pollution even though the state has the toughest EPA laws in the nation.

The past couple months are due to the gov't shutdown but that and the 4 interest rate hikes last year don't resonate with you because you are blinded by hatred based upon rumor and leftwing indoctrination

This thread, which I started, has nothing to do with job creation, state lending, poverty, homelessness, quality of life, interest rate hikes, cost of living, etc.

This thread has to do with the Senate rejecting Trump's declaration of a national emergency. Including many Republicans.

Please take your off topic discussion to another thread.

This national emergency is not working out too well for Trump.

I asked you to please post about the topic of this thread. Not about issues having nothing to do with the thread.

Just breaking.

WASHINGTON — The Republican-run Senate rejected President Donald Trump's declaration of a national emergency at the southwest border on Thursday, setting up a veto fight and dealing him a conspicuous rebuke as he tested how boldly he could ignore Congress in pursuit of his highest-profile goal.

The Senate voted 59-41 to cancel Trump's February proclamation of a border emergency, which he invoked to spend $3.6 billion more for border barriers than Congress had approved. Twelve Republicans joined Democrats in defying Trump in a showdown many GOP senators had hoped to avoid because he commands die-hard loyalty from millions of conservative voters who could punish defecting lawmakers in next year's elections.

Senate rejects Trump border emergency as Republicans defect

I am not the least bit surprised. Are you?

Actually I am surprised that 12 Republicans voted for this. That is a huge number. I figured it would be a half dozen.

Maybe I should read the entire thread to see if you got the current news, but probably not since negative liberal news is ignored

House fails to override Trump’s veto of measure to terminate national emergency on border | Fox News

I asked you to please post about the topic of this thread. Not about issues having nothing to do with the thread.

And my response was to another poster that raised the issue which is what I responded to. Seems that biased, partisan support for the radical left drives you these days as there is nothing moderate in your posts.

Now to stick to the thread topic, my belief is after the Mueller fiasco you are going to see a lot more like this as Democrats if smart are going to get off the 24/7 Trump attacks and actually do something to benefit the American people, something like Supporting Trump's economic and foreign policy efforts but none the less enjoy

Your comment about the Democrats is also off topic. This thread was about a dozen Republicans getting off the 24/7 Trump train. And what they voted on had nothing to do with Trump's "economic policies" nor his "foreign policy efforts". It has to do with his non-existent national emergency, and a dozen Republicans being intelligent enough to acknowledge that is isn't real.

There are threads on Trump's veto. Many of them. You should post that link in those threads for people who don't know about the veto and what the House did about the veto.
So now the house failure to override the veto doesn't relate to the thread topic? Oh, my hatred of Trump makes good people do some very stupid things and post the same

What the House did wa fail to override letting the emergency bill stand

No, you posted a link to me assuming I didn't already know about that. If you're looking to educate people who don't know about his veto and the House efforts to overturn his veto, you should put your link in a thread that discusses it. This isn't one of them.

I already know what the House did. Pop into one of the threads about his veto and you'll know that already.

No, I prefer to stay here and predict what the Senate will do in not overriding the veto too as you are so adamantly opposed to anything Trump does it gives me joy to post information that destroys the joy you had when you posted the thread topic
